Description

Hey hey hey! Welcome! Aim for the Stars is a review of RMN’s present and future music events.

Here you can find a recap of what Summoner of Sounds - RMN's current music event series - has so far produced, and information about the future of RMN Music Pack 2: the community's next big music collaboration!

By participating in this event you can affect the development process of RMN Music Pack 2, give feedback to the composers, and win yourself a ticket to the Star raffle.

Summoner of Sounds is a series of community events where video game music has been celebrated by the means of craftsmanship and community interaction.

In Summoner of Sounds the community members with experience in music production have been dared to participate in monthly changing challenges testing their ability to perform well as a versatile video game composer, while the game developers with other areas of expertise have been encouraged to analyze the challenges, and provide the composers with commentary, feedback and constructive criticism.

The event series has entered its ninth chapter and is nearing completion.

So far the yields are:

  • Over 132 tracks of video game music by 46 participants!

  • Over 395 messages of commentary and feedback!

  • Over 58 Favorites given and received!

We have a raffle with two copies of Stardew Valley and one copy of StarCrawlers and Eden Star as the prizes.

-

The purpose of this event is to shed more (star)light to the musical creations of the community and encourage people to come in touch with their creators, so what you have to do in order to enter the Star Raffle is to hand out some stars!

  • Listen to the entries submitted to the Summoner of Sounds event, pick your favorite ones and describe them in your post.

  • To gain a ticket to the raffle, pick at least three favorites and give each one a star.

    Image code for the star:
    [img]http://rpgmaker.net/media/images/events/sos/sosstar.png[/img]

  • You may comment, post feedback and pick any amount of favorites by handing out stars, but you may only gain one ticket to the raffle in total.

  • Specify which game you want to receive.

  • The raffle will be held on 2nd of May 2016 as this event is over!

  • Additionally, the following achievements are obtainable through this event:

RMN Music Pack 2 will be the second entry in the RMN Music Pack series which is aimed to offer the community a selection of decent quality musical resources for free use.

RMN Music Packs are constructed as collaborative effort in community events that run for limited time periods.
The construction of RMN Music Pack 2 will begin this summer with some updates and improvements to its format.

This time around the plan is to make it possible for everyone in the community to be a bit more involved, even if they aren't music producers:

  • The new music pack will need new cover artwork which follows the style of the first album. You can vote for the theme of the next cover right here!

  • You can also make your voice heard in what sort of music you'd like the next album to include. Vote in this topic!

And lastly, you can help us arrange events such as RMN Music Pack, Summoner of Sounds and RMN Music Pack 2 by donating to the cause and becoming "Guardian of The Groove."

Every penny counts and the money will be used first and foremost to have artwork to go with the music and then to offer rewards for participating members. Any extra funds to the cause will be spent on future RMN Music events.

To get the Guardian of the Groove achievement you have to PM Happy after the transaction goes through, so that he knows to apply the benefits to your RMN account.

Thank you everyone! Don't forget to check out Summoner of Sounds which is still running and nearing its final chapter! Let's keep this show rolling!

Oh, I can give feedback! I've been looking for an excuse to be productive~ What I've listened to is super nice - and even the lower quality tracks are commendable.

End of Hardship by Trism
Woah, this piece is super emotional fromt he beginning and the guitar riffs add a conclusive, "look at the memories we made aren't they AWESOME?" vibe. It actually reminds me some of FFX-2's opening title screen piano arrangement after the first 15 seconds or so. Hardship is a little more fast-paced, but I love it to pieces!

The song from FFX-2 I was talking about btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5BzGwUqGzk

I want Stardew Valley by the way~ I think if I listen to each song slowly then I can give feedback on 100? I can tryyyyy~

I've started listening to all the compositions from chapter 1. These are my comments so far. Again, please keep in mind that my opinion is everything but professional, I am basing this purely on my own perception and personal preferences.

Air - by mjshi:
I liked the simple, melodic approach, and can see it working in a tranquil town or a similar setting. Still, I'd say that in general it sounds a bit too melancholic to count as a "piece of light-hearted video game music." Also, to my ears some of the piano notes felt somewhat too dissonant to fit the mood of the piece as a whole.

Banjo Utopia - by Fulminis-ictus:
A fun and fast-paced song - definitely some good ideas here. Unfortunately, some of the transtions between sections of the piece sounded a little clumsy, and I think some parts would sound better if they relied less on just one single instrument/melody playing at the same time. In short, it sounds like a prototype rather than a completed piece at this point, but I definitely liked what was there.

Candied Contenders - by Anorak:

Why do I get the feeling that I've heard this song before? Either way, I really like this piece. The whimsical melody of the xylophone (I assume) is a lot of fun, and it all sounds like it could have come straight out of a Mario RPG.

Character Creation - by Happy:
The sound of the instruments is very strong and clear in this piece, which I appreciate. Again, I wouldn't necessarily call the atmosphere created by this song "lighthearted," but for certain scenes (or menus, as the title suggests) it could certainly fit well. Personally, though, I have to admit I found it a bit one-dimensional and almost boring until the string instrument in the background began playing as well.

Contact Light - by morgvemusic:
This song evokes a very distinct sci-fi atmosphere, yet it also manages to sound oldschool, almost in the fashion of Game Boy-style background music. It took me a while to warm up to this piece, and I will admit I'm not a huge fan of the "wailing" sound that is very prominent in some sections. However, as a whole this is quite an impressive song, both in terms of quality and length.

Curiosity - by Shade_Hunter:
This piece as well has a rather calm and melancholic nature to it. Since I am personally not too fond of very high-pitched sounds or voices, I tended to appreciate the background instruments and melodies more than the main ones. But either way, this song contains quite a wide variety of instruments that play together very well, which I found impressive.

Delightful Village - by drassray:

I like almost everything about this song: It has a cool melody, nice sounding instruments, enough variety to stay interesting for a longer time, and I can see it working as background music for many different kinds of settings. The only problem I have with it is the goofy "beep... beep beep"- effect that plays through the entire song constantly. It just sounds so out of place that it makes the song sound way sillier than was probably intended. If you could just remove or replace it with a less ridiculous sounding instrument, this piece would be awesome.

Emotion - by Someoneman:
Simple but effective, this piece evokes exactly the mood you would expect from its title. As it is rather monotonous (but not in a necessarily bad way), it would probably only fit very specific scenes without losing its impact. The concept behind this song and its execution both aren't too original, but they work the way they are.

Elf Steps - by BurningTyger:
A nice idea for an almost minimalistic song. It's a little too repetitive for my tastes, but I can imagine it would work very well in certain kinds of games.

Exuberant - by ResidentEcruteak & Vanillatogether:
Another 8-bit style song that manages to do a lot with its material and avoids becoming repetitive by having both slower and quicker sections. It reminds me of the first few Pokemon games, actually.

A Blissful Step - by FirahFabe:
There are some unconventional effects at work in this song, so that it takes a bit of getting used to at first. Sometimes the melodies sound a little stiff, but that is very noticably intentional, and I quickly grew to like this somewhat experimantal style.

The Fellow With the Hat - by The Rexion:
This song starts out slow, but then turns into a very rhythmic yet varied piece. I like the way in which tranquil, calm atmosphere is combined with a strong percussion beat, and can see this piece working great in many RPG settings.
Seems fun, I wanna try too!
I'm not the best with feedbacks and reviews but i'll give this a go....
And i'm most likely going to review every song (well I'll try to depending if i'm interested in the chapter as much or not) because I literally have nothing better to do at this point.
I really want to get Stardew Valley, been really interested in that game.
WARNING: reviews may be short and ratings are most likely all going to be close to 10; along with me inputing on how the song can be used for in a game.

Chapter 1: Light of Heart

1)Air by mjshi (8/10):
Cute short little tune with a light flute and piano, perfect for looping. When I hear this song, I think of a nice cute little adventure game with peaceful features, this song can be great for the screen title, or even in certain happy yet calming events.

2)Banjo Utopia by Fulminis-ictus (10/10):
Really good energizing song and the name definitely fits! Loving the banjo, it definitely reminds me of a soundtrack for minigames (ex.havest moon: tree of tranquility), very good for countdown based events where you basically have to find specific items in a certain amount of time.

3)Candied Contenders by Anorax (10/10)
:
I'm already in love, love the xylophone alot, love the hyper fast vibe to it, I can see it being a song for battles. Great for any type of game in my opinion. Maybe more of a comedy type of battle for a goofy looking boss? Maybe even a bunch of skeletons as well? Who knows.

4)Character Creation by Happy (7.5/10)
It is a cute song, but the name doesn't really fit the tune. Maybe it could be a song for creating characters, but i'd leave out the violin.

5)Contact Light by morgvemsuic (10/10)

If this doesn't scream nostalgia, I don't know what will. This is a very positive and happy type of tune, I can see this song going places. It's worth listening multiple times.

6)Curiosity by Shade_Hunter (9/10)
Just like the name, this song definitely gave me some curiosity in to what the woman's muffled voice is saying, in a good way I mean. It's a very enchanted song with a classical era type of tune.

7)Delightful Village by drassray (10/10)

Very delightful indeed, the little "uh huh" is very cute and fitting to the song, I really enjoyed the catchiness, at the begining it just starts with a viola which caught me off guard because it's a low tone, but then all of the other instruments started coming in and it all blended in together.

8)Emotion by Someoneman (10/10)

Songs like these will instantly get a perfect score, at least from me. Love is the one word that comes to mind when I listen to this, definitely for a romantic moment or when someone confesses their feelings to someone, or even a deep moment with a character.

9)Elf Steps by BurningTyger (8/10)
I can definitely feel like this would go well with when you're walking down a long path, or you have to search around for clues inside a mystical forest.

10)Exuberant by ResidentEcruteak & Vanillatogether (9/10)
Very retro sounding, perfect for when you're using a boat or air balloon.

11)Fabian Fabro A Blissful Step by FirahFabe (9/10)
Not sure what I was expecting with the name title, but I don't regret listening. Really cute and light-hearted, just as it was meant to be.

12)The Fellow With The Hat by The Rexion (10/10)

Reminds me of music for gamecube games; it's really relaxing, yet energized. This song could be a theme song for a good guy.

13)Forest Strolls by Dysergy (9/10)
A good song for a good day, for some reason I think this song would be good for the ending while the credits are scrolling, because it definitely gives you the "good job you did it" type of vibe.

14)Happier by CashmereCat (8.5/10)
Loving the chill futuristic vibe, great for a inside a shop/supermarket,school, etc.

15)Happy by Trihan (9/10)
Farming gamessssss, Harvest moooooon, basically any game that has a barn in it, jk you don't have to have a barn but it would make sense.

16)Happy Village by Lyrahel (7/10)
I can imagine the village being sort of tribal, and in an island. I'd imagine it to be a little more fast in tempo, but other than that it's a good song.

17)Happy Castle by Cap_H (.5/10)
I'm sorry to say but I couldn't go farther than 19 seconds because the song was very scratchy and harsh to the ears, I see where the artist was going with the tune, but it just wasn't good quality.

18)Harmonic Dance by Artificer (4/10)
Don't get me wrong the saxophone was amazing (with the exception of the couple times of hitting the mic) but it needs some more background music to it, or atleast a tamborine or something.

19)Harmony by chenbaiwan (10/10)

This song reminds me of something you'd hear at a festival, so festival music it is. That or when there's a spiritual enchantment happening.

20)Home by Ylmir (9/10)
This really does feel like home, very relaxing and gives you that optimistic feeling. Very well performed.

21)Home Town Jaunt by dreamingghost (10/10)
Great for a main town of the game, I can see this being for a platform/sidescrolling type of game for some reason. Just the right length as well.

22)The Hunt by chenbaiwan (10/10)
Ugh chenbaiwan, you done it again. The name is pretty self explanatory itself on how it's going to sound. The upbeatness and the fast pacing tune really gives you the idea that this is really meant for a time based event.

23)Idiot's Theme by TungerManU (9/10)
This actually made me laugh, I'm guessing this is a theme for a very comical character who thinks he's the coolest and smartest guy out there, when all reality everyone gets annoyed by him.

24)The King's Daughter by Azthar (10/10)

Whenever you talk to the princess, this song is going to be playing definitely. This song gives me a vibe that the chick is sweet and snooty at the same time, and a royal pain in the booty.

25)Lighthearted by Calicer & Lucent_Aurora (9/10)
Love the flutes and the cheerful tones. Great for when you first open up the game, I can see a little animation in the begining with characters following/chasing eachother left and right and looking all playful. Definitely a game targeted for young age groups.

26)Light of Heart by Merlandese (9/10)
A song for intruiging and comical moments with characters, especially for when an NPC who's usually an hardhead starts being more of a jerk- er I mean more friendly. Also great for a happy little kingdom.

27) A New Horizon by Artificer (4/10)
In the begining the instruments are really jumbled up together, and it really clashes together, but eventually it starts mixing in together, not the best but not the worst either.

28)Ogarth's Morning by blinktjp (7.5/10)
Really nice and relaxing, can be useful for dungeons and walking through town.

29)Oh Poor Me! by Happy (10/10)

Definitely different from the other songs in this chapter, definitely a song to depict someone's troubles, or rather "troubles" I can see this for a very dramatic character, so dramatic that it's funny/sad.

30)Options Maybe by Kunsel (8/10)
Loving the vibe from this song, and it has plenty of uses for various of events, shopping, school, scrolling down and kicking bad guys' butts.

31)So Happy by jasprelao (10/10)
Very fitting, has the right amount of energy put in to this.

32)Speak High by Lana42 (9/10)
For those enchanting and important moments in the game, especially when you find a significant item that's been hidden for years with a deep meaning from the past sort of thing.

33)Strange Friends by Artificer (6/10)
I can see you really tried to make this song sound good, a little too hard though. It was all going good until that one point...if you didnt add that it would've been amazing. Good try though.

34)Town Theme by ResidentEcruteak & Vanillatogether (9/10)
I definitely get the retro vibe here, with a nice tiny little hometown. Very short and sweet.

35)A Trip to Tampak Siring by jasprelao (10/10)

As you know, Tampaksiring is a town in Central Bali,Indonesia. It has a holy spring water temple, and is a very small village. I give this a 10/10 and a star because of my first remark and it really fit's the name; plus I loved the water effects in the song.

36)Unusual Inhabitants by larrylpope (8.5/10)
With curiosity and hope, you come out with this song. Perfect for when you find something that you're not familiar with and it turns out to be better than expected.

37)When a Clean Guitar Smile by Artificer (3/10)
I swear I thought in the beginning it sounded like Blister in The Sun by Violent Femmes but the guitar is just a lot more high pitched in this song, but other than that, you don't have a set rhythm for the song, but other than that, I feel like you're just playing around with the instrument.

38)Village of Tranquility by ResidentEcruteak & Vanillatogether (10/10)
Perfect, absolutely fitting in everyway. The little chimes really gives out the tranquility along with the violin.

Chapter 2: Assault Action (Only going to review certain ones I find interesting in this chapter)

39)Assault Action by Giznads (10/10)

Great for strategic games, love the drums and the metal kind of sound it gives, really fitting for some hardcore scifi action.

40)Battle for Xaetera by fxsnowy (9/10)
I imagine this being for a last battle of the game, given the player the need to win.

41)Challenge 2 by SigninColor (8/10)
Very upbeat yet gives you the vibe that if you don't pass successfully in the game, it will be a bad ending.

42)Encounter by mjshi (3/10)
Good sound to it, just doesn't fit the theme of this chapter at all.

43)Frontal Assault by pLasterbrain (10/10)

AcTiOn PaCkEd.

45)Interstellar Sunshine by clubfungus (9/10)
Sci-fi Battle, or Disco Dance Club? Either way this is definitely the right tune for an action based game.

46)Mandolin by mjshi (10/10)

I picked this one to review just because I really liked the name. I can see this being bgm for when you're upgrading your stats or are "training for the battlefield"

47)March to Death by TheRexion (10/10)
You know what this reminds me of? Big mechanical robots on the verge to fight eachother. So would I say that this fits the theme?? Possibly yes.

48)Techno War by Fulminis-ictus (8.5/10)
Get the glowsticks! lol jk, but really fitting name for the song.

49)Warzone by chenbaiwan (9/10)
Great for title screen, will give a good impression to players. I might want to get rid of the wind chimes though.

50)Your Mom's A Sci-Fi Warrior by Giznads
Funny name of song! When it says sci-fi, it really means it.

Chapter 3: The Dark Ages

51)Dark Ages by Ylmir (10/10)

Just as the name goes, this song really gives you the feeling of something/someone that went through some wonderful times, but now everything is slowly falling out of proportion.

52)Decaying Church by Fulminis-ictus (9.5/10)
For most people know churches are usually known as serenity and hopeful, but for this song if gives it the feeling of lost hope and disaster.

53)A Golden Sky at the End of the Storm by TungerManU (10/10)

This song gives me the feeling of despair times, even to the point of the character wanting to give up but with also will to go forward because they've gone so far in their journey.

54)Into the Woods by Giznads (10/10)

Eerie pathways and creatures lurk about when this song appears. The light little chimes with the dramatically dark sounding music behind it gives a little innocence towards the character.

55)Majestic Wilderness by larrylpope (9/10)
Very folklore, the ukulele and flute starts it off wonderfully, and then everything else falls into place, it's light yet it has some dark tones in it so this song goes well with the Chapter's theme.

56)The Market Yard by chenbaiwan (10/10)

"Got a lot of things in store for ya', young trav'ler" not disappointed with this one at all.

57)Noble Town by Giznads (9/10)
Great loop type of song, just as it refers in the name, it's a song that's good for being in town.

58)Profunde Illi Qui by Oshimura (5/10)
It isn't my cup of tea, plus the rhythm in the song is off put.

59)Rakkerflakker by TheRexion (8.5/10)
When you and the town have to make a very important decision, this is the song that'd play.

60)Sleepy Village by BurningTyger (8.5/10)
Definitely has the folk in it, great for a very quiet town.

61)Suspicious Dungeon by Shade_Hunter (9/10)
I can definitely see this as a deep dungeon with plenty of levels to go through.

(will post other chapters in next post I make.)

The RMN Musicpack 2 cover artwork voting has now finished! There was a tie between a tropical town and a forest setting, but we're on a schedule with this and I landed my final vote on a forest, and specifically a dark firefly forest, as suggested by Liberty!

Stay tuned for some cool artwork!

Also thanks for all the awesome feedback posted here so far! I am going to put together a few audio reels featuring some of the tracks submitted to SoS and feature them on our social medias fronts!
Thanks a lot for all the feedback! Seems like Mura no Uta is one of my more liked works which is great for me since I love traditional Japanese pieces and it's good to know that I have succeeded in making such a piece.
I'm looking forward to reading even more feedback!

Whew god! Getting through the first chapter of these was a bit of a chore due to my fluctuating download times.

Anyway, I'm going to warn all of you beforehand that when it comes to music, I know dick about it and I'm easily impressed, yet not really good at picking apart bad stuff.

"+" Is a good point
"-" Is a bad/iffy point

CH 1:
---------------------
Air:
+ Very soothing
- Feels somewhat incomplete? Maybe another sound channel needed?

Banjo Utopia:

+ Perfect. I am a sucker for banjos

Candied Contenders:

+ Love the whimsey, sounds perfect for a cutesy game.
+ No complaints here!

Character Creation:
+ Very nice! Not much else to say about it.

Contact Light:

+ Has that touching, yet upbeat indie-retro vibe that I really dig
+ One of the few I really felt an emotion from.

Curiosity:
+ Good!
- Something about the "tuba" sound in the background sounds a bit... glitchy?

Delightful Village:
- Maybe tone down the "bah" sound?
+ Not sure if this sounds "delightful" but it's a nice theme nonetheless.

Emotion:
+ Neato!
- I feel like the violin(?) in the background is getting drowned out by everything else. Maybe it would sound more "full" if that was upped in volume a bit?

Elf Steps:
- Kind of confused about the intention of this piece. The "rumbling" effect sounds a bit out of place?
+ Still not too bad overall. It could maybe work in an unsettling, deceptively cute place.

Exuberant:
- I feel like it incohesively switches between a "triumphant" to "ballroom(?)" theme.
- mixed feelings on this overall. It's not really bad, though there is something about that doesn't stand out to me.

Fabian Fabro A Blissful Step:
+ Has potential
- The instruments, particularly the violen(?) sound horribly out of sync with each other.
- Loses its flow and sounds nearly cocophonous as a result. I'd adjust where those instruments play.

The Fellow With the Hat:

- A bit too loud in certain spots
- Maybe the intro could be cut in its length?
+ Pretty darn amazing, though. This one gets a star from me.

Forest Strolls:

+ Has a great, melodic tune that really sticks out to me.
- I was kind of taken aback by the snare drums. I'm not sure if it's "fitting" for this kind of music.

Happier:
+ Nice! Has a bit of Final Fantasy mixed in with Klonoa.
- That "ewwoo"(?) sound is a bit jarring.
- I don't really like how the melody cuts off at the start of the tracks' end.

Happy:

+ The title is fitting!
- The way the track ends is kind of abrupt

Happy Village:

+ Has a nice sense of atmosphere
+ That said, I think of this belonging to some underground town rather than a standard "happy" village. Maybe because of the echo-like sounds.

Happy Castle:
- This doesn't sound very melodic to me. More like a combination of annoying sounds that just makes this feel very hard on the ears. I think when doing chiptune, you kind of need to give it some sort of melody otherwise you might wind up with something that sounds less engaging and more noisy.

Harmonic Dance:
- Doesn't sound like a "dance" to me?
- It's not bad, but it kind of feels like it's struggling to find itself, if that means anything to you.

Harmony:
+ This was pleasent to listen to!
- I don't exactly know what, but I think it's missing something. Maybe something to "punch it up" a bit? Not by making it more "upbeat," but by making it more "victorious-sounding"?

Home:

+ Fantastic! Your music really took me on a narrative journey through sound.
+ Definitely starring this. This is among the best I've heard so far.

Home Town Jaunt:

+ Sounds solid!
+ I like the Genesis-sounding synths in particular!
- I don't know if the piano bit sounds in-place. Maybe it could be changed to a more fitting instrument.

The Hunt:

+ This often fails to load on my end, but from the bit I heard, It sounds outstanding!

Idiot's Theme:

+ Nice beat!
- The intro kind of made it sound like it was going to be more foreboding, but then the melody wasn't. Maybe that part can be cut shorter a bit?

The King's Daughter:

+ Fantastic! Really sells the idea of a pompous, royal brat to me, if that's what you intended. :P

Lighthearted:
+ Sounds alright. Not sure what else to think of it.

Light of Heart:

+ Pretty solid.
- Instruments might be a touch too loud?
+ I still kind of want to see more "situational" music like this, so have a star. :D

A New Horizon:
- The horns almost "fight" with the other instruments.
- Really sounds like it struggled to find what it was trying to be at the start.
+ It at least got better around midway, but overall it needs some work.

Ogarth's Morning:
+ Not a bad chiptune!
- The "de-de-doh" sound (I can't describe these things) feels very out of place and out of tune with the rest of the music. I'd be fine if it was removed entirely.

Oh Poor Me!:
+ No real complaints, here.

Options Maybe:

+ Sounds perfect for an "options" game menu.
- A teensy bit repetitive at the beginning, but otherwise it was easy listening.

So Happy:

+ Loved it!

Speak High:
+ Nice!

Strange Friends:
- Needs refinement. It kind of sounds like a lot of notes were missed and randomly pressed out of sequence.
- Gets muddy at the end.

Town Theme:
+ I typically hate MIDIs but this wasn't bad.
- Something about it doesn't really stand out to me, however. Sorry I can't really elaborate on

that.

A Trip to Tampak Siring:

+ Holy SHIT man this is good!
+ Really nice sense of atmosphere, the running water sounds also add a nice touch.
+ Again, holy SHIT this is good! I wish I could give it two stars.

Unusual Inhabitants:

+ Fantastic!

When a Clean Guitar Smile:
+ Is it me or do I hear a bit of "Blister in the Sun"?
- Kind of sounds like you were experimenting with the instrument. Not very good overall.

Village of Tranquility:
- I don't really know. It has some loud, jarring instruments that kind of kill the mood.

EDIT: BTW I'm raffling for Stardew Valley
Blobofgoo
Legs are a burden. Return to snek.

I thought it was weird that a lot of people chose to do slow tempos for this one.

Light of Heart - Chapter 1
Banjo Utopia - I love bluegrass type stuff like this. The banjo is a great joice for this theme. Practically any melody with a banko will sound light and bouncy. The violin is a nice addition to add some material between the aforementioned bouncing of the banjo. Good work!

Candied Contenders - I like this as a battle theme. And it sticks with the light theme. The only thing i didn't like was dynamics in some parts. The "glissandos" on the xylophone stick out from the rest of the song. In Contrast, the synth (It sounds like an electric piano) is pretty quiet for something that is carrying the melody.

Chacter Creation - The chords are a little strange for a light song. Are they minor? This song seems to be striving for a glittery, shimmery feel. It's almost got it. I think modifying the piano so you can't hear the key presses would help a lot. Possibly having the cello come in more softly as well.

Delightful Village - The instrumentation makes this sound like a desert town to me. The only thing I found awkward was the "huh huh" sound. It sounds a little like a young girl mumbling something.

Emotion - Pretty sad for a light hearted piece. It could use some variation between the oboe and the violins. For the majority of the piece they are playing the exact same rhythms.

Elf Steps - Another darkish piece. Pretty good ambience though.

Exuberant - A chiptune?! And it's a waltz?! Nice! I think this one would benefit from being a little faster. And I loved the alternate melody in the middle. Need more of that. Finally, don't use fade outs. It makes looping it difficult.

Fabian Fabro A Blissful Step - It's nice and bouncy. The dotted 8th rhythm in the piano causes a noticeable gap in sound when it finishes each time.

The Fellow With the Hat - Dynamics. Melody can be louder and accompaniment can be softer. The percussion is also pretty repetitive.

Forest Strolls - The call and response between the different voices is nice.

Happier - The arpeggios do a good job of providing the mood, but that's really all that is going on. The piece needs a more defined melody. Exposed percussion was an odd twist.

Happy Castle - The sounds are off beat and in a weird key. They are also very sharp sounds unpleasant to the ears (Especially using headphones).

Harmonic Dance - Could use some light percussion or chord accompaniment.

Harmony - Some of the harmonies had really close notes, causing some dissonance that distracted from the melody.

Home - It sounds like a movie soundtrack! Amazing.

Home Town Jaunt - I live the instrumentation. And there is a lot of variation to keep it interesting.

The Hunt - The percussion is consistently distracting from the melodic line, partially from being so loud. Don't fadeout at the end so it can be looped.

A New Horizon - Voices are low quality. Sounds are choppy.

Ogarth's Morning - I would like it better without the interrupting 16th notes.

Oh Poor Me! - Takes a while to establish a beat. After that it is good.

Options Maybe - I love the voices and subtle percussion. This peace is very relazing. Don't use fadeouts for looping putposes please.

So Happy - Nice beat. Percussion changes at times that make sense and keep the energy of the song up.

Speak High - I love the ascending and descending piano lines. They are very engaging and contrasts the long string chords well.

Strange Freinds - This piece felt like it was struggling to find a melody. Is it sticking to a time signature at all?

Town Theme - It's 2016. No more MIDIs ;) Aside from that, it's rather short, so there isn't much melodic development going on.

A Trip to Tampak Siring - The vibrato is infectious. I love it. I thought the water sounds were pretty distracting. Let the game developer put it in the water effects over the top if they want.

When A clean Guitar Smile - Needs accompaniment and a more consistent tempo.

Village of Tranqulity - Swap out the clap for something that doesn't draw so much attention to itself. Also, that violin sample is awful. If you can change it it would be great. The ending needs some work. It sounds like it ends right in the middle of a development.

Some of them I didn't have anything to comment so they are not listed. I'm pretty impressed with RMN's talent so far. Even if it doesn't look that way from my comments; I'm generally pretty pessimistic.

I'd like to enter the raffle for Eden Star please.

I'm not amazing at feedback and you only need to know that I asked "Is Z a note" the other day to know about my music skills so sorry if I'm not very technical. Also they were all really good, I just did my favourite of the section. this time I did them all I think, they were too good!

Today I'll do section VI, Game within a Game! KloeReview activate!

The Gamble by Piano
-Really awesome and exciting, its intense yet relaxing and I love the du du du du du du duuuuuuuuuuuu du du du du du du du duuuuuuuuuu bits! Well done!

Time by Tunger
-Nice and modern, short but sweet and I like the piano in the background and the way the drums fit with it. And also the last note is really good.

A Game for Two Players by Snowy Fox
-I love the flute and the clap sounds especially, the song is so upbeat! I love it! It could also be used for a cool upbeat busy fun forest town! The ending instrument is cool too!

Minigame by Fulmin
-Simple but nice and cheerful. I love the way it starts and stops and the simplistic elegance! And the piano is relaxing.

The Shell Game by Piano
-Yet another fun cheerful tune, ironically no piano, and I love it. It could easily be used for an island resort too! A bit of an abrupt end but it makes up for it in it's cheerful rhythm which got me bobbing my head!

It's a riddle by Shade
-Mysterious and ominous, but a really nice tune. The air of mystrigue and mystery it creates is incredible and I love the way more instruments are transitioned in and the flute and the section around 3:20 is really upbeat and happy!

Master of Ceremonies by Piano
-Upbeat and exciting! I like the flutey-whistle thingy going throughout most of the song and the steady beat underneath. My favourite bit is the bit at 30secs and 45secs, it stands out and I really like it! It could also work for a boss fight with a clown or funny villain!

Catch Him by Shade
-An epic tune with some cool drums, I love the shaker! The tune is so upbeat and happy too! And the section starting 0:40 which I really like! It ends well too, with a nice fade!

-EDIT: I DID MORE REVIEWING!-
Next up, (a day or two later) is chapter VII, an open world, KloeReview ACTIVATE!

Alone With the Stars by Beak
-A slow song, probably suited to night-time in a peaceful place. The piano really works well, and suits the background drone effect!

Desolation by Beak (Again)
-Another great song by Beak, still quite slow and mysterious but picks up the pace. It's has an air if mystery yet a hint of familiarity, making it feel like a destroyed hometown due to the sadness within the tune. I like the use of the Violin with-ought!

Evasive Maneuvers by Beak (Again!? Crikey!)
-Yet again, another great song, it's a little intense for an open world theme, I think the drone is a little overwhelming but I still love it, the underlying beat and the catchyness had me typing to the rhythm of the tune! It feels very Sci-Fi and modern!

Exploring the Open Field by Curry
-I love the flutes and the way it gradually increases the texture and it sounds very magical and fairly upbeat! I love the air of mystery and love it creates! I'd use it in an area I'd call Fairy Field and would happily listen to it again and again exploring the mysterious land that the song makes you feel you are in!

Flying Dove by Shade
-I love the opening, and the really happy overall feel it gives! The mystery and intrigue is also off the charts. The bit at 0:45 really surprised me though, it cam out of nowhere. After that the song really picks up and is really cheerfull! It sounds almost holy and I love the piano solo-ish bit around 1:30. It continues it's awesomeness and pure greatness throughout the (4mins!?!) of the song. It also has a very smooth ending!

Into the Expanse by Piano™
-I love the harp in the background, and eventually the main instument. Its also a really solid exploring song, for a beatiful beach or a sunny seaside. A great song, very emotional and pretty song, full of flying Kloe's who fire Cupid's bow at all the couples! Um... I didn't say that...

Realization by Shade(Again, wow, you have a lot of songs)
-Mysterious, and I love the strings at the beggining but at 0:40 ish the little tone bits mess with my earphones, making white noise... but then after that it's really nice and calm and upbeat! Also the ending is really impressive!

Solar System by Beak (WOAH, AGAIN!?)
-Slow and mysterious... I can hear the crickets. A great tune for a nighttime adventure. The upbeat adventurous feel eventually comes in at 0:30ish and then I love the melody that is on the top.

A title by Tunger
-A sad song, really nice piano solo and I think it creates deep emotional sadness. I wouldn't put it in this catagory, but it is really good!

Wanderer by Piano™ (For the billionth time, he has a good song... Woah...)
-An epic tune, for an adventurer who travels across the land in an amazing kingdom. Happy and upbeat! I like it. I don't reaally know what else to say, but it is really cool! (and it has a Piano, lol, ironic)

What Lies Ahead by Piano™ (HOW MANY SONGS!?)
-If this is what lies ahead for me, I'm happy! A bit clockworky tick-tock at the beginning, really happy and I don't know what note the drone is but I love it, so bass-y!! Also the trumpets make me feel royal and incredible! An epic tune of great epicness. Somehow it gets even better at 1:00 which I though impossible and then an awesome melody at 1:20 which is catchy and memorable. (Except that the bit from 1:20-2:05 sounds a little like a ringtone...)
It's been crazy trying to listen to so much music! I have a few faves so far, though.

Full Disclosure: I have no idea what I'm talking about. Never have.

Chapter 4 - by Ylmir

Wow, great! I love the use of instruments in this. I almost felt like I was wandering around in some LotR-like MMO.

Morning in Your Apartment - by Shade_Hunter

Nice build, making use of the several simple instruments consistently but with enough variation to really make the piece stick. Has an indie film vibe.

A Game for Two Players - by Snowy_Fox

I really like this one! Almost didn't give it a full shot because it sounded like it might be a bit too derivative of "Shuffle or Boogie," but it has more of a Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles sound than an FFVIII. It's a great song for many occasions, I think, but very good in a sub-game setting. I especially like how it varies over time.

Minigame - by Fulminis-ictus

This was a bit of a tough purchase for me at first. It didn't hit the spot I wanted in the category until maybe halfway through when I was actually pretending to play some happy little mini-game with an NPC, then I thought it was great. :)

Hope - by Fulminis-ictus

I like how the thing felt in general, from the very beginning. There was a bit of tension with a bit of that hopefulness, and then it gets more driven by some melodies.

EDIT: I'll take Stardew Valley.
I just want to say that I really liked the first event (rmn music pack 1) and I actually have put some of the songs from there into a player.

Chapter 1
------------
air - simplistic, sounds like something at night. Sounded a bit TOO simplistic to get me feels though.

banjo utopia - sounds like some comedy chase scene or that minecart scene from super mario rpg.

candied contenders - Another fast paced one. sounds like something out of a disney movie. Like something fast and stealthy.

character creation - xylophone-like tune? Sounds like something involving intrigue/curiosity.

contact light - Sounds like a dream sequence. Slow. Did not expect 8 bit tunes. Could pass as an outer space type of area.

Curiosity - Probably a forest? An enchanted forest, maybe. Maybe because it reminded me a bit of secret of mana.

delightful village - a bit suspenseful. But it does fit a village as the name intends. Perhaps an unfamiliar village.

emotion - sounds like an awwww moment. Light hearted as you call it. Definitely would fit for a scene like that. like maybe flashbacks or something peaceful.

elf steps - sounds like some ice cavern perhaps

exuberant - 8 bit. Slow and easygoing. I keep trying to come up with where a tune like this would fit in a pokemon game but couldnt figure out where. The closest would be like a ship sailing.

fabian fabro a blissful step - sounded pretty good, but had some weird stumbles. No idea if intentional or not, but personally i'd like it better without the stumbles.

the fellow with the hat - slow, suddenly gets faster. the tune is very basic, it seems. But that gets more 'enriched' later too. Without the beats in the back it might sound like a slow light hearted theme of some kind, but with these beats in there I have no idea what this can be... maybe a slow airplane shmup..

forest strolls - good thing i didnt read this as 'forest trolls', because its pretty peaceful. Very laid back.

happier - some weird instrument combination... lol no idea what this could be though.

happy - moderately fast peaceful town sounding.

happy village - tribal village? (probably because of the drums), simple tune. Could probably fit any quiet town though.

happy castle - 8 bit. got some 'explosions' or something lol... sounds like playing tetris on a gameboy.

harmonic dance - Single instrument. Good effort though. Might sound better with more instruments.

harmony - reminded me a bit of the prairie from legend of dragoon. But had some weird high-pitch stumbles.

home - sounds JUST like home. Very slow and comforting. STAR THIS.

home town jaunt - super lighthearted. the instruments in here are not that synergistic though. sounds like it could fit as the starting levels of a platformer rather than an rpg game

the hunt - fast festival type of song similiar to some other rpgmaker music i remember. Makes you wanna dance, too.

idiot's theme - sounds like something out of command and conquer... made to fit rpgmaker. Definitely futuristic. dem beats.

the king's daughter - lighthearted for sure. Does have some regality to it. Could fit any friendly castle town or something.

lighthearted - exactly what the name says.

light of heart - sounds like the theme for a comic relief character. Like kefka maybe, but not evil

a new horizon - sounds like a lazy sunday morning. Ultra laid back.

ogarth's morning - the sudden fast parts made this seem really weird for such a slow tune

oh poor me! - sounds kinda gloomy but also lighthearted... i'm confused

options maybe - medium speed tranquil type of song. I'm thinking a watery area but it could fit several things.

so happy - i recognize this guy from rmn pack 1. Anyway this sounds like a travelling/airship theme for sure. Probably night. STAR?

speak high - likely some peaceful town. Has a bejeweled feel to it.

strange friends - mainly piano. very soft. Doesnt seem to have much of a presence

town theme - very short midi (half a minute). A rise and shine type of song.

a trip to tampak siring - mystery cave like. With actual water sounds. Very good, actually. Maybe a bit too much dings though.

unusual inhabitants - definitely an interior area. Has some intrigue. Medium speed.

when a clean guitar smile - single instrument. Pacing goes off sometimes. Sounds like an actual person playing the instrument.

village of tranquility - first tune goes a bit too low to feel tranquil, I think.

chapter 2
-------------------
assault action - sounds like a military briefing/suspense music. It's very good.

assaulty - relatively restained fast tune. Absolutely no idea what it could be for.

battle for xaetera - another suspense music. has bursts of danger in it. Pretty good track.

battle stations - sounds kinda simple, but it does fit the theme.

call of the chromed commandos - over the top heavy electrical tune with alarms. Actually pretty slow.

challenge 2 - has higher pitch than the others. Fast and has many things going on all at once. Definite urgency.

challenging fate - Sounds very fitting for a battle theme, with fast and slow parts, but is relatively restrained.

cyber assault - slow build up. Random machine/voices, kinda like a rave, but the tune is not rave like. Sounds like something in starcraft or c&c. But then it has very fast parts with strange interjections. Basically, it sounds like something for a RTS game but the fast parts come without warning and that wouldnt fit in RTS. No idea where this could fit in an rpg game. Also it's quite a long track, but the last minute is just one repeating tune.

die section 187 - extremely long and foreboding buildup (1m30s). Very slow despair-inducing tune, filled with blares and screams.

encounter - single or limited instruments. Has just one basic tune and a few strange pauses occur. Going by name, it sounds like something you hear just before a random encounter while the screen changes.

fight on the orbit - pretty mellow (I dont think it's intense enough for a fight). Pretty fast, but has a space feel to it. Could be good for like a platformer game.

frontal assault - obvious battle theme. Probably a boss. Fast and sounds electronic/trance sort of. Epic, though a bit corny.

interstellar sunshine - sounds like medieval japanese danger music. Medium speed. Sounds good, but no idea what this could be for, and sounds like it's for action games/movie rather than an RPG. Has storm ambience.

mandolin - criminally short. some human shouting in the back. Kinda simplistic.

march loop - a bit simple, suspenseful and kinda short.

march to death - very suspenseful, fast. not so much a march, more like a charge. Like an entire army charging.

outerworld battle theme - slow grandiose (like a final battle in outer space or something) battle theme.

techno war - fast/urgent and relatively quiet, a little bit of action.

thundering assault - sounds like a cathedral.. lots of echoey xylophones or something... not so much a military assault.

thunder ride - fast/urgent tune without anything fancy. Mostly bass drums (or whatever it's called). sounds like the matrix.

warzone - urgency with a hint of stealth. Most likely either at night or an interior area.

your moms a scifi warrior - fast. A bit monotonous.

chapter 3
-------------------
dark ages - a sad beginning. Sounds like title screen music, but can also be pretty good for introduction scenes, or that kind of stuff. Has a (rather) long intro tune.

decaying church - chants and organs as expected of a church. This one is a bit slower than the ones I heard, but is very much of the same type. Compare to 'the castle' from FF8 which is definitely more 'elaborate' but this one is pretty similar to it.

a golden sky at the end of the storm - Piano mainly. sounds like what its name suggests. An ending scene or post-battle type of scenario. That bittersweet feels you know.

Into the Woods - foreboding with a music box. Heavily suited for some loli horror game wandering in a witches house or something. Or a witches woods, I suppose.

majestic wilderness - sounds like a world map theme. Probably meant to be grand, as well as calm and relaxing.

the market yard - A rather generic tune suitable for any type of dungeon or area, apparently. The actual tune is quite short so it might be a bit grating after a long time.

noble town - sleepy place with a pretty sleepy tune to boot. Basically has one instrument accompanied by very quiet background ones. Also reminds me of the sky castle from 'Star stealing prince'

profunde illi qui - One or 2 instruments only. Foreboding. Sound quality is regrettable... sorry.

rakkerflakker - Sounds like a scene in a movie where people are travelling a long distance. I'm thinking this big screen flyby of a large canyon or something and you are on an airship... feels almost real. No idea where this would fit in a game, though.

sleepy village - Sounds like it can only play one note at a time... which is of course, severely limiting.

suspicious dungeon - Very good for a dungeon. Relaxed, but intriguing. What's gonna happen at the end?

Let us go hence and comment!
I, uh, got started!

Edit: Oh right .. the raffle.
I .. uh... .. so much sci-fi o.o
.. Star Crawlers or Stardew Valley, maybe? Either is fine, really.

Chapter One
Part 1

Banjo Utopia

I just love this theme. I also love race and other fast-paced minigames and this is perfect for it! Or openings. Like a certain Banjo..
Great job!

The fellow with the hat

Air:
Is it just me or does it feel dissonant at some points? Near the beginning and end, where the flute just feels off. It's a really simple piece, and it's a lil bit of a bummer the tone is disrupted by that.

Banjo Utopia:
Ohh.. Banjo Ka- .. oh, wait. It's lovely and upbeat and I think it will be perfect for races or minigames, or maybe a festival.
There is too much going on for long loops, but I really love it!

Candied Contenders:
Really love the start and general rhythm to it! The xylophon is carrying it wonderfully. But because it is standing out so much the soft instrument following it up feels a little too weak in comparison and kinda muffled?

Character Creation:
Not sure how this is intended .. feels a little off later on with the cello in the background, and because of that it doesn't really feel all lighthearted? Mysterious maybe.

Contactlight:
Slow build-up, really enjoying this! Sounds outlandish, but also great for a more laid-back relaxed experience, strolling through town or shop, or something like that.

Curiosity:
It's .. neat, but it feels a little .. messy? I don't quite feel what direction it's taking and it's going here and there.

Delightful Village:
Tribal, huh. The voice in the background sounds really weird to me. But I like the overall tune. It has a harsh undertone with the cello(?), which makes for an interesting combination.

Emotions:
Slow and really sweet. It doesn't stand out by itself, but it'll suit many moments well.

Elf Steps:
Interesting .. it feels like there's unrest everywhere. While it's calm overall, there's the suspense of well .. steps being there. Surely good for area backgrounds.

Exuberant:
I really like the build-up towards the end, makes for a nice highlight in the tune.

A Blissful Step:
One instrument's note sounds just .. really off... but I still really love this track!

The fellow with the hat:
Really nice mid-development, gives off a feeling of freedom and warmness.
One of my favorites here! So tempted to star .. will listen to it again and decide.

Forest Strolls 1:
Calming and soft. Picks up nicely from there, too. Drums are a tad off, but really nice overall.

Will continue later!

Hey guys! I really wish I could of taken the time to listen to more, but with Ocean helping me on my project and the end of the school semester I've barely had time. I'll at least submit the ones I've listened to with a bit of feedback to each, along with my three favorited stars!

Air - by mjshi
Definitely fits the theme. Light, cheerful, gives you a sense of ease.

Banjo Utopia - by Fulminis-ictus

I love this theme. It has a really good pace for something light hearted and yet fast paced, plus I do love me some banjo inspired themes. As a user of RPG Maker I can also really appreciate the end where it sets up to loop seamlessly.

Candied Contenders - by Anorax
Very creative use of the xylophone. The other instruments compliment it well to add to a zany theme indeed.

Character Creation - by Happy
Definitely fits the theme. The notes at the start seemed to reach a bit high imo, but I do like the violin introduction near the end.

Contact Light - by morgvemusic

I was taken for a bit of surprise at 0:40, but it really fits the theme and I like the way it transitions. A very nice piece. Kinda reminds me of Terraria.

Curiosity - by Shade_Hunter
Fits the theme well, plus I really like the instruments used. Reminds me of a ball room scene or some majestic castle.

Delightful Village - by drassray

I like this. It's bouncy, catchy, and sticks to the theme very well.

Emotion - by Someoneman
A very simple yet effective piece. It tackles the theme quite well, and sounds flexible enough to be used for either a happy or a sorrowful scene.

Edit - I also forgot to mention the game I'd be interested in. I just wanted to get my feedback up :3 I think I'd love a copy of Stardew Valley so I can compete with Libby on LP's!
Cahpter one Part 2

Home

Options Maybe

Speak High

Happier:
I really like this soft tune.. simple melody, but really neat play underneath!
(favorite?)

Happy6:
A little too simple and easy-going as it remains kinda samey imho.

HappyVillage:
A really nice tribal feeling again .. happy, but not overboarding. Really kool for remote villages, really like this one.

HappyCastle:
The starting .. something .. is hard on my ears, ouch^^
It's an odd tune, not a favorite of the lot sadly.

Harmonic Dance:
Simple .. kinda goofy, but not sure where this is going, either.

Harmony:
Neat simple and cute. Not standing out much, but neat.

Home:
Aww.. loving this. So soothing. Slow waves of build-up, really kool.
Deserves a star!

Home Town Jaunt:
Ohh.. surprisingly long, but I like this one! Takes the liberty to break out a lil bit.

The Hunt:
Fast-paced one, the title suits it. I really like it, stays a lil samish, but quite lovely tune.

Idiots Theme:
Hoh .. hmmm. Is neat, really find it hard to point out anything specifically, welp.

The King's Daughter:
This starts .. a little weird but builds up really nicely. I also really like the change to flute in the middle, just gets better.

Lighthearted:
The opening is a kool idea, but the break for transitioning is a little long and makes it stop for too long imho. I like the tune it builds up to afterwards tho, quite playful and happy.
At 1:00 you have such a break again tho, and not sure what the purpose is?

Light of Heart:
Hah, sounds more like an idiot themes. I don't really like the main beat driving it, but I love the build-up changings in between.

A New Horizon:
The trumpets make for a lil goofy main theme? It all sounds a little randomly put together, especially at the beginning, not really going anywhere.
It picks up the pace later tho a lil bit.

Ogarth's Morning:
Starts slow, and keeps that pace. Sounds really relaxed and laid-back tho, too.

Oh Poor Me:
Is this lighthearted? I can imagine it as poking fun at something but..
Other than that, I would have liked some base-line since 30 seconds or so without any second instrument seems too much empty space. It builds up from there tho.
Sounds more like evil doings than light-hearted, maybe clumsy villains.

Options Maybe:
Sounds rather abstract/far-away .. which is prolly why it was titled after something meta-game/out of game like options. I can imagine it well for stores or sci-fi cities as well. For which it would be a really lovely tune, like this one a lot. It's simple but really neat and relaxing.

So Happy:
The drums kind of catch me on the wrong foot on this one, lol. More like a sweetened rock song, haha. But I do like the flow of it a lot. Well done!

Speakhigh:
Simple start .. oh.. that builds up really sweetly and relaxing. Almost melancholic, but almost. Great for foresty stuff, but I can also imagine it for cutscenes or other moments.

Strange Friends:
This .. sounds really shy. The piano especially sounds a little bit shy and messy at times, more like someone learning to play. Hmmm. It's not really building too much of a melody despite it being the leading instrument, which is probably what would help it the most.

Town Theme: This sounds a little weak compared to others. A nice calm melody, but some instruments sound a bit off, and it's not really building up much, either. It's ok.

A Trip To Tampak Siring:
This starts out .. odd, but I really like the meditative subtone. The waterflow sounds a little off tho, it suits the meditativeness, but since it only appears for a little bit, and very strongly so it just sounds off. (not the mention the rest of it is just fine, I feel similarily to the other sound popping up in the background, altho that one does build up to somewhere)
That said, I love this one. So tempted to give a start, hmmmmm...

Unusual Inhabitants:
Oh, that sounds great for an underground passage/town. The wind instruments later sound a little off .. hmmm. Makes it less lighthearted in any case, not that is necessarily a bad thing. I like the buildup later with them tho around 1:30

When A Clean Guitar Smile:
Similar to Strange Friends the main instrument doesn't really keep its melody and it all sounds rather shy and still in the phase of testing and learning. It's a little more coherent than the other one tho!

Village of Tranquility:
Hoh .. the starting point is really simple. I like the turns and buildup it takes later, but it's still feels a lil static. Perfectly decent track tho.

Chapter I:

Air - by mjshi

This is... okay. The smoother flute(?) part sounds better than whatever sound you're using for the percussion. Not my favorite; might be hindered by sound quality.

Contact Light - by morgvemusic

This started off reminding me of Risk of Rain, but then it brought in the fuzzy sounds and started to feel like a kinda-chiptune party theme. While it sounds like it might fall into a somber tone at first, listening to the full piece brings out the "light-hearted" goal. The growing complexity works well. I could see this as the theme to a chill club or party, or the credit roll theme for a game like Shovel Knight.

The Hunt - by chenbaiwan

Oh shit! This got me within the first few notes. I really love this, with the tambourine as percussion and the fiddle-y dancin' tune. If I had to hunt while listening to this, I'd be tapping my feet. So, probably not good for actually focusing during an intense hunt, but for a chase scene or a festival this would be a terrific choice.

The King's Daughter - by Azhthar

The odd, buzzy sound put me off at first. I grew to enjoy it though, especially once the carousel-esc melody came in. I wouldn't want to hear this constantly, but it made me think of Dookie's project with its ant and bee royalty or... whatever the heck it's about. Something odd and experimental, I guess. I like it, but I wouldn't listen to this much without the context of a game setting.

Chapter VII:

A Battle - by TungerManU

While the first few seconds made me feel like this was going to be a very hollow piece, I was pleasantly surprised by how it began to fill out. While the loud snare(?) drives a battle beat, it's a generally very pleasant tune. I could see this being used for a friendly duel or as a forest's battle theme. I feel like the loud beat would drive me insane as a normal battle theme, however.

Still Fighting - by JarGamer

Not really feeling this one. The deeper and higher sounds don't meld well or compliment each other, only serving to drown the other out. This one gave me a slight headache.

Hope - by Fulminis-ictus

Oooh, I liked this one immediately. This one definitely fulfills its simple title, sounding courageous and hopeful. We get a break from the bombastic part with a nice little piano interlude, giving the listener a short chance to drop the energy so that they can mantain it longer. I could totally see this as being part of the heroic battle at the end of a game, defeating the shit out of the final final form of the real big bad.

There's Always an Edge - by pianotm

This feels like remastered NES RPG dungeon music. That's a very good thing! It has that oldschool FF stuttered notes up and down, adding a sense of wonder and mystery, and is eventually joined by a smoother, longer notes. I wish that middle part was longer, because it would be a terrific part to loop for cave-delving. Reminds me of Uematsu's Into the Darkness (but with a less incredible hook -- although if this isn't actually meant to be dungeon music then it's fine).

edit: I'd be interested most in Stardew Valley, although all 3 games pique my curiosity. I wouldn't mind receiving any of them ;V

Also, I'd totally do more of this if we have more events/awareness posts like this (with or without prizes).
Chapter 2 Part 1:
Battle Station

Challenging Fate

Assault Action:
Definitely starts with the tension high and keeps that. It remains calm with it, but with high tension. I think this'll make for great background music - love the subtle build-up! That one kinda .. warped background noise feels a little annoying tho to me. Great track tho otherwise!

Assaulty:
Remains fairly calm, feels a lil more sci-fi-ish than assault. The build-up is neat tho, but since the base-line remains the same feels a little too slow for it to pick up as it is trying to. Ah now it does. That's better, sadly right towards the end.

Battle for Xaetera:
War drums, neat. Really love the intro, the kind of wavering line below feels off tho, since it's so different in style, but the picking up is neat since more is added to bring it together and go more into modern/sci-fi atmosphere.
It kinda calms down afterwards tho, which seems odd given the general directions, but it's neat in its own way too. Makes for a nice change overall.
I particularily love the outro.

Battle Stations:
Clean buildup, this is really neat. Maybe favorite for the well-roundedness of it all.. hmm

Call of the Chromed Commandos:
Rocky theme, but I think it works really well for the intended purpose. The wavering (whatever the term is) around 45~ and after feels really off to me tho, bummer, so close : D

Challenge 2:
Oh.. this is lovely! The one piano buildup keeps up a tad too long imho.

Challenging Fate:
This is a wonderful tense track, right off the bat. Very clean build-up too. So many cool tracks.

Cyber Assault:
Evil voice, go! It takes almost a minute to get to a neat build-up and tune and then it cuts down again.
It seems a little out of pace. The watching you is interesting, but there is no bridge to transition well from one part to this warped messy voice. It's more noise than music.
Wait .. transition 1:50? What is that? Completely different style and super boring, meh.
This is really difficult to implement in a game, if at all. I imagine like a dark corridor with flickering lights and screens. But the guitar rocky parts feel out of place with the otherwise more sci-fi vibe. A real bummer, there are some really kool parts in there, mostly used as transitioning (like 3:00) tho, but the actual main portions fall flat.

Die Section 187:
Starts really slow. Prolly better for a more horror-themed game, as it does have subtle things in there slowly building up..hmmm.
I do like the track, but I'm not quite sure what to do with where. Would make some cool exploring background music.

Encounter:
The intro sounds .. surprisingly light-hearted. There's an organ bit, but no tension at all. Would be neat as cut-scene thing or so tho.

Fight On the Orbit:
It feels like the early piano parts are cut off a tad early.. hmm. Fairly fast-paced, like spaceship battles? Is neat, but the fast base-line feels a little tiring after a while tho.

Frontal Assault:
I really love the calmer section around 0:45! A fast-paced one this one, I really love the changes towards the end. The guitar feels less interesting than those.

Interestellar Sunshine:
Sounds a lil like that meditative track's creator in Chapter 1, are they the same? Anyway, the intro is a little weak, but it grows quite nicely. A few too many unnecessary sounds in the background, but the main parts are really nice!
It feels a lil dragged out, but it remains neat overall.

All right, at least I managed to finish the complete Chapter 1 before the deadline. I originally wanted to give feedback on all of the submissions, but there's just so many of them! So I had to leave out a few that I felt I had nothing meaningful to say about.

I'm afraid asking for another extension of the deadline is futile at this point, but going through such a huge amount of compositions just takes a lot of time. I believe that many people would like to provide more feedback if there was more time available. But obviously, the decision is up to Happy.

Forest Strolls - by Dysergy:
A pretty song that is almost archetypal for RPG town music or similar uses. Most of it has a pleasant, tranquil sound to it. However, the sections where the two flutes play at the same time sound a bit jarring to my ears. Also, the guitar(?) tune in the background is very repetitive and could easily have been made a little more interesting. I do appreciate the short sections in the middle and at the end of the piece where a different melody is used.

Happier - by CashmereCat:
A very rhythm-focused piece with some nice ideas and unusual sounds. Despite having a few more experimental parts, the song as a whole sound a little too rigid and linear, as its structure is simply based on changing the instruments and foreground melodies regularly after a set of time. Also, due to the wide variety of sounds/instruments used one after the other, I can't easily think of a place to use this song in a game. For some reason, the percussion-only section at the end sounds rather off to me. At the moment, this track seems more like an excercise in music than a complete piece, but its potential is very noticable.

Happy - by Trihan:
Working very much with a clear rhythm, this song makes use of a simple yet uplifting melody to keep the listener interested. This piece can most definitely be described as light-hearted, and would fit the setting of a town or festival in a game quite well. Yet, the melody can become a little repetitive and could use some more substance to make it enjoyable to listen to for a longer time. Still pretty good despite (or because of?) its simplicity, though.

Happy Village - by Lyrahel:
A piece where different instruments play short themes one after the other on a constant background rhythm. What is there sounds quite good, and the song as a whole is pleasant to listen to. Yet it is also not extremely interesting, and the transitions between instruments are not very smooth, so that the piece becomes very linear. A less rigid and structured setup could have made this song's novelty last longer.

Happy Castle - by Cap_H:
A rather experimental 8-bit style piece that takes some getting used to. It has a strong beat and makes creative use of simple sounds and noises, which can make some sections quite enjoyable to listen to. However, I found the intro to already sound rather jarring, and throughout large parts of the song many of the sounds used aren't pleasant to listen to. I imagine the way those sounds were used in the unconventional composition of the song wouldn't be everyone's thing, but I minded that much less than the actual sounds themselves. Maybe it's just a matter of preference.

Harmonic Dance - by Artificer:
I... honestly don't know what to say about this. Am I missing something? To me, it just sounds like random notes thrown together. I'm very sorry. (This sums up my reaction to all of Artificer's submissions unfortunately.)

Home - by Ylmir:

This is a beautiful piece that fits its title perfectly. It's very tranquil and melancholic, but has enough variety to keep it from becoming monotonous. Great work!

Home Town Jaunt - by dreamingghost:

A whimsical and lighthearted track full of electronic sounds and a calm but swinging rhythm. Very enjoyable to listen to even multiple times in a row. It would work very well as a town theme in a not too serious RPG, for instance.

The Hunt - by chenbaiwan:
A quite fast and very rhythmic track with a strong melody and a powerful buildup. The almost exclusive use of this one melody becomes a little repetetive after a while, however. Still, very pleasant to listen to.

Idiot's Theme - by TungerManU:

A great modern track with both an emphasis on a strong beat and a variety of melodies to accompany it. This song gets stuck in my head constantly and doesn't lose its appeal even after listening to it repeatedly. Very fitting for a contemporary or futuristic setting. One of my favourites so far.

The King's Daughter - by Azhthar:
A waltz-like track with a very goofy-sounding beginning, but a development towards a more classic dancing piece. It's fun to listen to, but I was unable to really discern whether the the track was intended to sound a little funny or not. Therefore, I couldn't help but imagining a dance scene that starts very awkwardly and slowly becomes more comfortable.

Lighthearted - by Calicer & Lucent_Aurora:
A flute-focused and somewhat experimental track in which the melodies completely change at quick intervals. This causes the song to almost sound like on the spot-improvisation. The individual parts mostly sound nice, but the disharmonious jumps in style and rhythm just don't appeal to my tastes.

Ogarth's Morning - by blinktjp:
An almost minimalistic and somewhat futuristic piece which sounds more sad than lighthearted. Not exactly my preferred kind of music, but I imagine it could work well in specific situations, such as a mysterious setting in space, for example.

Options Maybe - by Kunsel:
A very playful and rhythm-focused, futuristic-sounding track. I like it in general, especially the piano-like sections every so often, but it also doesn't switch things up a whole lot and begins to become repetitive after a while. I think that as the music for a menu screen or something similar it would serve its purpose well, though.

So Happy - by jasprealo:
This is a nice and cheerful piece with pleasant melodies and beat. It gets a lot out of the material it uses, and avoids losing its novelty by working with constant variations of its theme. My biggest complaint is that this song is simply too short to really shine - I would definitely have given a star to a more extended version.

A Trip to Tampak Siring - by jasprealo:
This is a very unusual and interesting composition that produces a strong atmosphere of mystery. The clash of calm tunes and ambient sounds together with electronic effects makes this song both powerful and confusing. I struggle to come up with situations where this piece could be used in a video game, but it's definitely very well-made.

Unusual Inhabitants - by larrylpope:
A mysterious-sounding song that can be seen as lighthearted, but in some sections also reminds me of stealth-based gameplay. From a musical standpoint, I don't feel this piece is very special or varied, but it gets its atmosphere across very well.

By the way, can anyone tell me why jasprealo's "Dance of Devananda" as well as both of Matt_'s submissions were denied? They all sounded really good to me, and it's kind of a shame they don't appear in these lists.

I noticed a lot of people commenting that some entries for the first chapter didn't sound light-hearted. Then I noticed I had wrote here that the challenge was to compose a piece of light-hearted video game music.

To be more accurate: the challenge of the first chapter was to compose music for a light-hearted video game setting.

By the way, can anyone tell me why jasprealo's "Dance of Devananda" as well as both of Matt_'s submissions were denied? They all sounded really good to me, and it's kind of a shame they don't appear in these lists.
They were good submissions, but they were old works that were just dumped on the event.
