A CIVIL GARDEN PARTY ~ 2K3 DISCUSSION

RPG Maker VX is not "blocky." It does not have a "blockiness filter." It does not magically make games "blocky." That is the RTP. Also, you guys like Necropolis. =P
That's because I'm a Popular Guy, which means they have no choice but to like the look of Necropolis. I actually think the VX RTP looks nice and don't mind the blockiness. I was talked out of getting it when I heard you only had one tileset (which is fairly large, but not large enough). I must've vented for about an hour in IRC that day, because it really upset me.
No, you didn't. You said that the Honda Civic/VXPAce could do more, and you are absolutely correct.
Could people please keep throwing excuses out into the lovely garden here? I'd love to break more of them.

My car is actually legal, and costs less than 0.6% of a Honda Civic. Also, way to prove my point - I am, in fact, using the superior program which can do more, can do it more efficiently, and has the same interface as 2k/3.
0.6%? What car!? O.o

Why do you care so much what maker people use?
I think he wants to encourage growth.

Oh, and here I was thinking that this was kind of a poll on why people still used RM 2k3, not the "Craze thread to convert everyone to VXAcentology".
It only seems to be alienating people, though.
People know the advantages and disadvantages of the makers, really (especially the people posting in this topic).
EDIT:
All of Craze's topic are susceptible to Godwin's law of RPG Maker. "All RPG Maker topics eventually devolve to a 2k3 vs VXP debate"

Dude, I'm a supervillain. Supervillains don't host garden parties for naught, and this particular supervillain is aiming to increase the quality and uniqueness of RMN's products. I'm vicious but ultimately seek the betterment of the community.
kentona, this is an RPG Maker forum. Of course we are going to discuss RPG Maker.

For the record, I actually really like Necropolis. XD Also:
Welcome to RPG Maker VX Ace, ladies and gentlemen.
I will probably make the transition, after I'm done with my game (Which, btw, was hilariously confused as Craze's game on the screenshot topic).
We can talk about it later :P

I tried XP when it came out but it didn't stick. I tried VX for an entire year and even though it was waay better than XP, it didn't stick either. VX Ace looks really good. When I'm done with my project(s) in 2k3 i'm switching forever. Or quit using a maker alltogether.
you are welcome to blame me for being lazy, because i am. what are you going to do about it

Craze, you are actually getting me to consider trying VX Ace :)
I'm actually already sold on Ace. It's just a matter of tying loose ends first.

Do you honestly think I just said that we shouldn't discuss RPG maker? Really? I think you really misconstrued my post.

It's wrong because you are encouraging creative laziness for your own petty, selfish impulses. You are capable of being better than the average Gameloft consumer.
You are a smart guy, but this is a silly, naive viewpoint. People are going to enjoy what they enjoy, and out of all the hedonistic pleasures in the world, the guilt factor for liking or preferring a certain type of video game is going to be far, far in the bottom of the list. I 'feel bad' for lying to my mother or breaking a promise, not liking a game with Chrono Trigger rips. Frankly I don't give a shit.
In a perfect world, I'd love to see more Necropolis' and Exit Fates, but in the real world where people have limited time, hobbies are hobbies, and in the end like it was mentioned before, it doesn't really matter to the players, I am well, pretty 'alright' with the way things are. Change, positive change is organic and rather slow, which brings me to my next point...
...I am not saying this is a bad topic, but it has already displayed a fundamental truth; words are usually the least effective way to present an argument or for people to change. Want others to convert to you point of view? Show them. Show them how awesome and cool and great the new makers are. Craze already nutted up and showed a cool screenshot of Ace's capabilities, but the best examples are games themselves; when the community produces games that truly show what XP and VX and Ace are made of, and not dumb ass cookie cutter script block clones that a grand majority of VX games are (not any fault of an individual).
Exit Fate is what is making me seriously consider using a new maker after Chronology. Not someone nagging me. Not a 10 page topic, not an article or a treatise, no, it was simply "Hey here's a game for XP you should play it's awesome" "Oh shit this game is awesome maybe I'll fuck around in this program a bit". Words, not actions is what changes shit. Also none of that spiteful 'here this program is awesome let me show you this is why you shouldn't use RM2K3' laced passive aggressive shit either.
Just don't say anything. Show me.
I like Kentona's edible turtle. (Also, nice post, Mog, but I can understand Jude's perspective as well. It's important for the different philosophies to coexist on this site...)

Quoting with a post I greatly agree with because, in all honesty, trying to get people to switch from 2003 to VX is a cool notion and all... but not when you're pressing them to do it in a manner in which you appear to be talking down to them for using 2003. By trying to make 2003 look like garbage no matter what someone's excuse is for using it (which makes me wonder why the hell this topic was even made at all), you're just going to alienate 2003 users and not encourage them to come on over to your side when you're making yourself look like pretty arrogant and condescending by spitting all over what they use.
You don't antagonize the people who use 2003 if you want them to use VX. Be a cool and friendly dude by supporting them for using 2003 and then offer some cool info about VX such as what it introduces (besides scripting and such) that would make things easier for 2003 users. Man Craze, weren't you a pretty cool guy back in the day at GW? How in the heck did "Cool Craze" get replaced by "Stick-Up-Bum Fanatical VX Craze" and why is he a MEANIE FACE?
But yeah, I'm going to switch over to VX in due time regardless of whatever Craze tries preaching and/or how he goes about doing so. The fact of the matter is just that a lot of people probably want to switch to VX, but they've just put so much time into their 2003 projects already (read: a few years) that it would feel like a waste to drop everything they've done in 2003 to restart from scratch in VX. Some people don't ever finish any projects in anything anyway, so I say let them go ahead and play around with 2003 for as long as they want (and leave them alone for doing so). Others, like me, want to switch over to VX once our 2003 commitments are out of the way.
