WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

So Liberty, this person who called you for 24 hours: stalker or a friend?

Friends, and we were on one call for that long (granted, it was broken up since we had to keep calling after several hours - like when people fell asleep.) It was the night before Valentines Day and ended up with the site turning pink and a lot of crazy non-sense. ^.^

Good times, good times.
So... it was an awkward romantic moment between you. Got it.

Also: I'm back, yay!

You guys care waaaaaaay too much about hitting page 1000.

It's not for the achievement. This thread is an ongoing warts and all story written by the members of an interactive and vibrant community and if someone gets to page 1000 before she closes it, she won't close it and the thread goes on. That is the ultimate goal, especially for those of us that think closing this thread after 7+ years of good, bad and interesting times would be a waste.

Cash, that was hysterical in a slightly obsessive way, but at least it shows you care. Doomed to failure but valiant nonetheless.

edit: Hey Ky! Welcome back.

Not just finish it, win it.

1000+ is like New Game Plus then. I should grind in some other threads some more.
An ending is a new beginning. Why do you all assume there won't be a second thread. And that it won't be bigger and better than the one before it?
Fuck Canada just passed it's own Patriot Act legislation, but a worse version of it.
What does this mean? For those of us who have no idea what a PA is? I mean, I could google but I'd probably have to sort through information for the meat of it and have no idea why this would concern you, personally.

Oh, we know there will be a second, we never said there wouldn't be one, but...

It'll be void of the memories and conversations of the past, a doomed legacy we can no longer contribute to. A reminder that all good things must come to an end, but we won't stand for it! We will drag it on, even as we drag ourselves to oblivion! We will pump it full of life force until it's writhing body is overflowing with the juices of victory! Viva la "What are You Thinking About Right Now?"!

But really I don't see how this new thread could be "better" or "worse".
What's the criteria for that in a thread where you post whatever you want, anyways?

But it wouldn't be bigger and better. That one will be closed before it get's the chance. I don't honestly understand why you want to cap it: if it's big and unwieldy in the main forums, it'll be big and unwieldy in the archives, and a replacement is just going to do the same thing and then you'll have two threads that are big and take up space, and there's a strong chance people won't enjoy the new thread, and it will die for psychological reasons, and knowing how threads go in general, it's probably a fairly good chance. Threads get posted in for reasons. You can't tell me why any more than I can tell you, but closing a popular thread to replace it with a new one won't make the new one popular. It'll still be this one that's popular, only nobody will be able to use it any more.

Oh, the Patriot Act is a law that says all of the rights your laws grant you can be taken away if the government doesn't like you for whatever unspecified, arbitrary reason, and if that happens, they can have the army arrest you instead of the police and hold you for the rest of your life without trial, charges, or so much as being questioned.

Yes kids! That's the power the Patriot Act actually grants the government. Except here in the US, the Supreme Court decided that the Patriot Act was bad and we couldn't have one, so politicians had to rewrite so that they couldn't permanently take our rights again (this means that in the US, under the PA, we can't be held indefinitely anymore), but that's okay, because all of the dictatorial powers that got removed from the PA got put in what's called a packet and got attached to the National Defense Allocation Act, an old bill, that because it's a funding bill, has to be re-approved every year. All this bill is supposed to do is give the Department of Defense yearly funding, but now it actually allows the nation to remove the existing government and activate what's called an "interim government". If you're wondering what an interim government is, watch the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Yeah, it's really like that.
Bill C51 basically gives CSIS (Canada CIA) the ability to secretly ask a judge to violate the charter of rights and freedoms whenever they feel like it for very general and vague "promoting terrorism" and "disrupting the economy".
Also what? This topic is going to be locked? Since when? Why?

This is probably not going to happen on my watch.

The long and short of the Patriot Act in America was that it gave the gov't increased powers of surveillance over its citizens, including less restrictions on wiretaps, e-mail and internet tracking, etc., in the name of "hunting terrorism". In addition, it led to increased border security, "random" terrorist checks at airports, and things like that. It was designed to sacrifice people's freedoms to increase protection against terrorism. IIRC, when it was instated it won the vote by a large margin (this was right after 9/11) and has been renewed every few years without much trouble, although it looks like it's been slowly waning in popularity.

It's up for renewal again soon and we were talking about it at work, wondering if it would get rejected, but it's pretty unlikely. Turns out the government doesn't like giving up power very easily!

I have *no* idea why Canada is suddenly aboard the terrorism train. Kentona?

Hot tip for Summer/Autumn 2015 season are automatized games with robots.
What is the deal with your avatar? Every time I see it I'm reminded of the batter from that one game with the cat, but I know that can't possibly be it. Looks more like something from Donnie Darko.

Y-You saw this a while back. In fact you said basically the same thing back then too.

Basically the challenge is this: If they beat me to the 1000th page (that is, I can only lock it on page 999) then it'll stay open. If not, it'll be locked on page 999. Also, the first person to post on page 1000 - if anyone does - will get a special one-of-a-kind achievement called "I Shot the Sheriff". And, like, 1 MS. XD
This challenge started about page 900 or so, in response to the locking and restarting of the Screenshot thread on page 499. Because round numbers suck. ;p

Also, that PA shit is crazy. Abbot better not get any stupid ideas. He already spent his allotted stupidity points for this elected term. :/

As has been discussed in the NewGame+ thread, I've never been a fan of the dynamic, new content is always good but a restart from the beginning has never appealed. It's why I won't be posting in the + thread if we don't get to 1000 and this is closed. It's a small protest but it's the only one I can do, in the same way as I don't buy from companies that do something I disagree with or find unconscionable I don't give them my money, in this place I won't give the new thread my time.

Word of God.

More importantly though, seriously Canada passed a Patriot Act clone? What are they thinking? It's pretty much proven to be a terrible law that restricts people's rights and completely demolishes the concept of due process. Canada doesn't even have the gut-punch reaction that the 9/11 attacks engendered to rationalise the passing of such a law.

now let me tell you about how much people I know hate the alberta ndp for being big government and how mad they are they won with only 40% of the popular vote
