I obviously mean a scenario the likes of which the websites i linked to say. When one of these days all banks close, all atms stop working, and money losts all value.

Money may change it's look and feel as the years progress but a form of exchange for goods and services has existed for thousands of years and it's not going away any time soon.

Banks are a newer invention, but I can't foresee a time when they won't be integral to the civilisation in which we live. Change the civilisation and then we'll have a reason they might not be around, until that happens, they're a staple of our lives.

In regard to the ATM's 'running out of money' since the currency isn't tied to the gold standard any more then the mint can print more, the economy thinks it has that money, the mint would just be matching it. Yes banks have been creating credit because they can which does need to be curtailed, and it will have to be but it won't be a crunch, it'll be a curve.

Still sticking some of your assets in precious metals isn't a bad idea, but then it's always been a good one.

Move to somewhere with 99% muslims with laws that forbid any religion but Islam (and assuming you're a Christian) instead, and what do you think your (short) life will be like?
So, my sister (American and non-practicing Christian) worked and lived in Saudi Arabia for a few years with her husband. They're not big on atheism there either. She was able to live just fine, although obviously she wasn't outspoken about her beliefs - it seems to be a more or less unspoken rule that you just shouldn't talk about being non-Christian. There's a big demand for American teachers in SA right now, because there are a lot of rich people in the country and they want to be able to work with English-speaking countries, so maybe that's why they're okay with non-Islamic teachers. She lived on a separated campus with other foreign teachers (Americans, Canadians, British, other Europeans). On the campus she was allowed to wear casual clothing, there was a swimming pool, etc.

Now this is all secondhand knowledge from her, but it's not an exaggeration to say that the country is not equal for women and men. My sister was not allowed to drive, bike, and was often entirely separated from men in public shops (although having a husband with her made things easier). She was required to wear a burka and was yelled at by police once for her face not being covered on the street. She was never beaten or harmed or abused by the police or other men. Apparently there is also a psuedo-caste system, where native Saudis are treated better than foreigners like Americans, who are treated better than immigrants from nearby countries such as Pakistan.

Anywho, none of this really matters. Living in Saudi isn't some immediate "death sentence", although it's certainly not going to be friendly to people who are used to the freedoms and relative equality we have in America or in other countries. And none of this justifies Islamophobia and the racism that's tied to people who "look like terrorists" against Muslims who live elsewhere and don't follow and act on the harmful parts of the religion. Saudi Arabia doesn't sound like a place I'd care to live, but believe me, I have strong doubts that countries with governments centered around fundamentalist Christianity would be appealing either.
What a lot of people tend to forget too is that the Media does the best they can to demonize Saudi-arabians, or really anyone from Pakistan, Iran and the like, because America is over 75% religious, either in catholic or christian faith. Those stories of bombings and shit sell well because Christians are a lot of the time, somewhat insecure, and reading that let's them feel like 'yay christians aren't the bad guys'.

I don't think either is really better, I know this is old news but the Crusades and Inquisition (both wars of either a christian or catholic faith) probably killed far more than islamic religious extremists ever have, notice how people just won't let 9/11 go? And funnily enough, think the terrorists are the ones who made the first move? Contrarily to pearl harbor (which was totally a dick move by Japan.), America started that one when Halliburton's CEO (Dick Cheney) wanted to get the Oil in Syria without paying, thus killing almost a million civilians or otherwise to reach that goal. They had more than fair reason to be pissed, of course the Media isn't so open about that.

So essentially 9/11 is whining about 2000 Americans dying, when overseas hundreds of thousands died just to make you feel a little better and get you some oil and a debt that has so dramatically pushed up college tuition fees that you are boned if you live in a poor family and can't pull a Steve Jobs.

1.7 trillion dollars of your debt is to his credit. Here's me sourcing this, see: Political Influence for that section. There's also a lighthearted but still hard-hitting video that goes briefly into it.

There's also this one.

As for what I'm thinking about? What I'll do first now that I've got some time offa' school, of course!

"Two explosives went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon April 15, 2013, killing three and wounding 264 people. Sean Collier, 26, an MIT campus police officer, was fatally shot in his patrol car April 18th by the Boston bombers. The three killed by the explosions were 29-year-old Krystle Campbell (left), 8-year-old Martin Richard (center) and 23-year-old Lu Ling"

From an article about those who died at the Boston bombing, INCLUDING an 8yr old boy who no longer has a life as does the 14yr. old child to will grow up and most likely be fine.
This article did not list all those who lost arms or legs because of 2 pressure cooker BOMBS.
This happened less than 3yrs ago. The people of Boston are still not over it and may never be over it.
They were not handcuffed, arrested and released.
THEY WERE BLOWN UP AND DIED OR LOST ARMS OR LEGS AND WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!!!

"Nevermind that there hasn't been an actual large-scale successful terrorist attack on American soil using explosive devices for years. " REALLY? Liberty.

"You're out of your fucking mind if you think it isn't!"

"As though someone's basic rights at being treated as equal to one's peers isn't important or doesn't send a message to the world at large! It is just like Hitler singling out the Jewish people because of the hate he had for them. Just. Like. That. "
"So don't dare say it isn't important or that people condemning the actions of the ADULTS in the scenario are somehow crazy or wrong - because they were adults and should have acted like it when it came to a CHILD who had his rights taken away and has been denied the right of a normal, everyday .hood because he was proud of a clock he made and brought it to school to show off. Lib, I said they'd try to keep it a secret, not that they would be able to do so successfully. Though to be serious (well more serious) for a moment there are plenty of deep dark things going on that only come to light when a whistle-blower raises concerns and takes the brave step out of the shadows. Snowden for all his faults shone a light on some very underhanded and scuttling things that had been going on for years in the intelligence services that the public had no idea about. Keeping secrets isn't something Govt are particularly good at long term, but they can do it quite well short term as long as it is in house. The whole asteroid come to kill us not so much because there is too much that is available to the amateur or the enthusiast, so no we'd know toute de suite that we're in for a blast.

Speaking as an amateur astronomer, somebody would see it. NASA and other space agencies may not be able to fully observe our night sky, but most major discoveries in our local sky have been made by amateur astronomers anyway. NASA prefers to observe stars that are not quite as visible from the ground.

stuff

I pretty much agree. Much of American history has been founded on racism; settlers driving Native American from their land, President Andrew Jackson ordering their mass genocide (and for those who didn't want to be slaughtered, he allowed them to participate in a forced march that became one of the greatest human rights violations in history, AKA the Trail of Tears and in fact, Adolph Hitler in his persecution of the Jews looked to Jackson for inspiration.). Of course, at this time, slavery in the nation was coming to an end, having been officially abolished in December of 1865, but would hang on until the last slave was freed in 1945 (also, check out the book by the same name). Corfaisus has linked the movie Reel Bad Arabs. I watched it last night and highly recommend it to anyone else. 9/11 is being used as a sounding board to continually stoke hatred towards, not just the Middle Easterner, but both foreign Arabs and American Arabs.

Of course, now we're making peace with Iran, rebuilding our relationship with the Middle East in general, but ISIL has been operating throughout the region, the result of two wars the U. S. waged against two countries that had done nothing against us...and we still haven't found the WMDs. Meanwhile, we've spent decades supporting a Middle Eastern regime run by a religious group victimized by the Nazis, who are now doing exactly the same thing to the Palestinians living in the region. We've got deeply entrenched government officials acting in whatever way they can to undermine our efforts at peace, and they're doing it publicly.

Yes, and poking us all and deliberately trying to incite further argument is exactly what everyone wants to see. If this isn't a deliberate act of instigation, I don't know what is.
"large-scale successful terrorist attack on American soil using explosive devices"

I always take care to word my sentences very carefully. It was successful. It used an explosive device. It only killed 3 (though it's horrible to say only when three people have died but the that is not a successful large-scale attack). Learn to read.

It was also the only of it's kind in the last five or so years. All others are local white men (who surprisingly never get called terrorists) and gun-based crimes. I do find it funny that the white people who commit terrorism aren't called out for it. No, they're all mentally disabled or have a 'compelling' reason that absolves them of the crime. Hell, the one before that was done by Russians, but I don't see them being called terrorists or arrested for shit.

Nope, only those of Arab-nation and the surrounding area descent could be possible terrorists. Little Jack Thompson can bring a gun to school and shoot up all the kids but he's treated so kindly because of his issues. Ahmed builds a clock that he's proud of and shows it to his teachers and instant loss of his rights as a human being.

Fuck off. (this is a general fuck off, not aimed at anyone bar the society that allows such idiocy to occur (and those who support it). You know, in case people don't understand that :/)

Seriously, the day little John Green rocks up to class with a clock that he made and is arrested for it is the day I won't call it racism. Ahmed was but, John wouldn't have (and hasn't been despite building a fucking nuclear generator).

Get this: it was an extra-credit science project. 7 other students brought clocks to school that day, but Ahmed Mohammad is the only one that got arrested for it. And as for my theory about how the arrest went down? It's confirmed! Irving police chief interviewed Chris Hayes and got the truth ripped out of him.
We allow contending opinions as long as people don't insult each other. Piano will probably be warned for the bigot remark, but honestly, everyone's been passionate but not incredibly insulting towards each other.

Well, to be fair, I called him a bigot first, but in my defense, he DID go on a racist tirade and tried to assassinate my character using his Muslim stereotypes.

Yup. Media-propaganda driven Islamophobia. Irving Texas, where the mayor disparaged all Muslims specifically living in her city.
