RPG CREATION WITHOUT THE PRICE TAG - SOME RESTRICTIONS APPLY
Posts
Too much restrictions. This is useless, for any project, besides "first game" projects. (But I think that the only purpose of this Lite version)
Actually, I'd say it's useful no matter your skill level. If you don't have the money to buy the complete version, this one is fine. I've played around with it and there are ways to get around certain restrictions. You don't need scripts to make a game that works and is interesting.
What matters most is how you use it. It's a challenge and lets you get a taste of what the full version can do. In that, it does the job it was created for.
I'd also love to see a competition or event with just using this engine~

I figured out you can edit the logo pictures.
And you can add more of those type/element things. I don't know about maps yet.

If you don't have the money for the full engine, you could also just use a different free RPG engine...there are quite a few...
What free engines are you referring to? Other than Lite, with RM there is no such thing as a "free" engine. RMXP, VX, and Ace all cost money, and RM2K/2K3 are illegal translations.
You may choose any other program that's not RM and some of them are free, but RM is probably the easiest thing to use for new people who know next to nothing about programming code. For those, the only legally free version is Lite, unless they are willing to fork out the cash.

That's exactly what I'm referring to, a non RM engine. And it certainly is more work. You hit the nail on the head, there.
But in exchange for difficulty, most engines do solve all those 'if only there was a way to do X' problems.

me too. BTW the worst part for me (besides the map an event limit) is the Troops limit (30). If anyone finds some genious way to bypass limits...
Yeah, I can except a limit of 30 enemies, but 30 troops? That makes it difficult to have variety of enemy troops for any given area.
Edit: Although this would be great for somebody who wants to create a series of short 1-hour games.

Have each troop be a bunch of hidden enemies with at least one visible one. Randomly make the other enemies visible with the battle events. Boom.
Hey guys, just a heads up: I've been working on a sample game for this in my free time for a while now, and will be releasing it this week. It might give you some ideas.
Well, I think they released it, because they know they'll soon loose userbase due to Open RPG Maker (ORM). While it's still in very early stage, Interface is almost identical to EB's makers and all changes are in plus. Also it'll run on Mac and Linux too.
Expect soon release "Basic" version with very small pricetag ($10-$20) with only limitation to being able to load up to X scripts and inability to override any basic classes (so things like Class Window_Selectable..def update..begin..(something)..end..end are out of question). Also with locked basic classes, to disallow direct editing.

Thanks for posting this Kentona! This will be the first time I touched a newer version of RPG Maker since RMK2003! Wait . . . . I tried RPG Maker 3 for the PS2 and uh . . . no comment.
You really can make a totally full game with this and it's not even that hard. There's plenty of ways to make away with the limitations and make a lengthy game. Only thing sucks is that you have no RTP without the license but hey, if you do custom stuff you don't need it. :)
