Wasn't FFXIII a remake of FFVII?
And characters had more personality and character development. More depth, too, at least for the mandatory ones. Though I liked Sahz. Or Sazh. Or however it's spelled. He felt the most human out of XIII's cast and the most tolerable, once he eased off the "ENEMIES OF COCOON!" ranting, at least.
Edit: I'd get into the story differences, but I find XIII less compressible than Xenogears, and I figured out the bulk of Xenogears' plot while suffering through insomnia and long term memory problems.

I believe it :P I enjoyed a lot of GW2's combat and ability to play it super lazily (don't have to be the same level as your hardcore friends, don't have to grind, don't have to pay monthly) but there just ain't enough substance. I probably would've loved FFXIV in high school, lol.

Pretty excited that this is on Steam now! I can finally see what the hype is about 10 years later.
ffxiii-2 is better in just about every way but music. it's wacky and bizarre like x-2 and that's what's so wonderful about it

seriously at one point in the game you have to tell hope that he's a dumbass. also a Very Serious plot point is that a dragon ate a portal so now it's eating flan and they're going to another time instead of the dragon's stomach and so it keeps eating more and the slimes are eating vanille and fang and it's just like. what is this game. is it good? yes. it is silly and fun and wonderful.

Hmm I actually really like a lot of the music in XIII-2, it overwhelmed me with cheese and I couldn't resist.
The only thing I really hate in that game is Mog. And Alyssa. And like most people, Snow - but thankfully he's not really in it for long, and the game's events thwart his affair with Serah. Awesome. (Honestly he's more bothered with punching giant tomato puddings than being with Serah anyway, so I think it was for the best.)

i am in no way kidding. you have to go through time to not only kill the dragon, but the massive flan that is dissolving the crystalized fang and vanille.
this isn't even the invisible boss fight, the massive trivia sidequest, or the fact that your third party slot is comprised of rotating monsters and cybernetic animals of your choosing.

Don't forget about the mandatory backtracking to search for tiny floating invisible crystals required to advance the plot.

The options you have are something like:
- There must be a finite amount of this cockbite so keep killing them
- Find its weakness
- Find the real version that's controlling the other cockbites
- Get mad and yell at somebody who isn't even there
.. and that wins the fight.
It's almost enough to make up for Acadamia 400

Welp... I liked the plot and the ending, mostly. More engaging than XIII, maybe because the most annoying characters from the first game had barely any screen time.

Some douche from SE did at one occasion name them not having the success of FF VII since then as a reason for not remaking it. I don't know how that's supposed to make any sense and SE has said a lot of different things about the possibility of a FF VII remake, so I wouldn't give that idea much credit.
It's also a ludicrous idea, the success of FF VII hinges a lot on timing. It was just the right time and situation for that game. In theory, SE could become better at making great Final Fantasies, but it's extremely unlikely that an opportunity like FF VII got will happen anytime soon.
