RPG MAKER MV ANNOUNCED FOR PC AND MAC
Posts
There are some decently sized screenshots on Famitsu's website: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201508/06085249.html
I'm relieved to see that the side view battle system uses a separate set of (adorable) graphics for the actors instead of just their charasets as the minuscule magazine preview led me to believe. Also, the RTP tilesets do seem different from VX/Ace. Neither the mountain or forest tiles look familiar.
That's reassuring, because I bet that one annoying bug with the full screen battle animations that has plagued every release of the program since XP still won't be fixed!

I-It's happening.

Those RTP portraits, battlers and monsters seem to be nice. The map graphics and charsets seem like they don't fit together very well though- looks (to me) like there's a couple different styles going on there.
EDIT:
Re: Scans
Are those portraits on the side RTP? The don't match the style of anything else (not even the in game face), so it's hard to tell. The fairy is the only clue that they might be. Regardless, they're extremely nice looking, although perhaps some of them may be weirdly specific concepts for a "general toolset" like RM, like the... Goldfish monster in a robot suit?
816x624 sounds like a weird resolution, but then again, so did 544x416. I don't know a whole lot about standard resolutions though.

I'm guessing as seen in that screenshot the tile being highlighted you can click to move there hopefully the pathfinding is pretty vamped up.
@pizza I agree on the portraits and battlersthe "main" male hero is kinda cute
Edit: honestly one of the things I'm most surprised about is support for ios I could see android support easily but I guess since it is for Mac having android only would be weird.

Tons of games have weird bugfuck internal resolutions. The last console generation was hilarious for all the weird shit they ran at internally before passing it to an upscaling filter to hit the target HD 720/1080 resolutions.
I don't see why it's surprising to have ios capabilities. ios users are a huge customer base. Anybody interested in making a commercial mobile game would want to tap into that market. Ignoring that would be an absolutely boneheaded move on any dev's part. Mac support though, I was surprised to see that and good for the devs to try and support them.

Why? Why does the RTP look so flippin' good? I'm a little sad that a lot of the resources I've collected for ACE will stay with ACE, but at the same time, I'm so damn excited to see what's going to happen with MV.
Also all you people with different responses to my "what's the 65% mean?" Are hilarious. And I'm not even being sarcastic!

That RTP actually looks quite boss. I hope the side-view sprites animate!
Looking at the promotional poster, though... Why does that witch's breasts look like balloons?

I wonder if Steam will change its DLC policy for this.
Because currently the DLCs are tied to RPG Maker VX Ace.
(You have to own Ace on Steam to use the DLC, owning another
RPG Maker on Steam won't allow you to have it, even though
the terms of use clearly say you can use in other RPG Makers.)
It would be a bit odd to release this on Steam for all the DLCs not to be also available for this (And vice versa for future DLCs to use in Ace.)
(Note these restrictions don't apply if you just buy from RPG Maker Web.)
Ah. Quite interesting.
It would seem that the sprites are larger this time around, maybe 48x48 this time.
So that faceset I was talking about in the iphone example seems to indeed be part of the new RTP.
I was completely off on the characters in the sideview battles, so I guess I lose my clairvoyance skill.
But I partially regain it with being right about the front view showcasing new RTP battlers.
The new tiles look like buffed up versions of Ace's, they look pretty rad.
Yanfly confirmed for scripting!?!?!?!? *explodes from hype*

You can access the Steam DLC purchases through a folder on your hard drive after they download, and move them to other makers manually. They're only tied to Steam as far as the download goes. Once it's downloaded, you can move them around in compliance with RPG Maker Web's licensing conditions.
To my knowledge, Steam can't override a publisher's TOS/licensing on their products, so once you buy them, you can use them in other makers if you move them.
He means buying them in the first place. They currently require you to own VX Ace, since they're VX Ace DLC as far as Steam is concerned.

Does anybody know what it says about the guys on the right-hand side? I just really wanna know what their deal is.
Man, the tiles are trash again.
@Backwards Cowboy:
Steam won't let you buy or add DLC to your inventory if you don't own the parent program on Steam. If you own Ace on Steam you could easily move around the stuff, but if you don't own it you can't buy it.
This is my problem with Steam making it DLC, when it technically isn't DLC. You can run this DLC without any engine. And to my knowledge there is no case where DLC can be tied to 1 of 2 different programs.
On an interesting note:
Game Character Hub isn't categorized as DLC, so runs by its self.

To be fair, we don't see much more than a few of them. They might be the worst of the lot?
Ugh... no one should get too excited about the layering system, it's not changing in MV.
It's the same way layers are done in VX/Ace.
Will Enterbrain EVER listen?

I thought it was going back to how it was in XP and that's why they're pushing "3 layers!?!?!" in the famitsu article?
From what i been reading, it's the same as Ace.. Automatic 3 layers.. as in you have no control.. I been seeing bits of information that are contrary to that.
author=LibertyIn which case they should probably fire their entire marketing team because jfc.author=WIPTo be fair, we don't see much more than a few of them. They might be the worst of the lot?

You're supposed to make it look hawt to rope people in.
ErilexNonetheless I'm already sold.
ALSO
FUCKING ALSO
ROUNDED NUMBERS???
PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS A THING, THAT LEVELLING UP ISN'T BORDERLINE RETARDED ANYMORE.
THAT WOULD SATE MY ETERNAL RAGE WITH EB FOR PROBABLY A GOOD SPAN OF FIVE MINUTES!
Okay sorry, caps off.
Welp, I'll like usual try out the trial first, then buy it if my anticipation is sated, which, hell you'd have to make it a downgrade to VX for me not to.
author=MarkusTAnd being raised on VX, I stone-cold don't give a damn about that.

Control is asserted via ingenuity, not a complex mapping system. Some of the best looking games are in the VX Ace Era, Trial by Trial-Jin comes to mind.
That said, appearance is subjective. And a game that plays well is worth far more than a game that looks good, if they add tools for more gameplay and updated nothing graphically at all, I'll be so literally uncaring my apathy will become a a new Australian state.
