Though, it seems I failed my promise to Frogge, because IF ended up dead.

Yesterday I was pretty convinced that either piano or LockeZ had to be scum considering how much they seemed to be opposing each other despite their first day cooperation.

piano, I like your thought process, but in terms of new players, we may just be having a hard time reading them.

Two experienced players should also be able to pull off seeming inconspicuous.

Ugh, that didn't go well. We're starting to lose people way too quickly, and I'm beginning to wonder how many special roles there actually are in this game. Could somebody please explain to me what kind of role "Cupid" is, for that matter?

I am now more reluctant than ever before to believe pianotm is Mafia. Even though I don't like how he threatened to abuse the rules yesterday, I can't for the life of me imagine scum would do something that incredibly dangerous. Even Shinan never showed quite such extreme behaviour. Now I have no idea what to think any more - pianotm must either be innocent or a brilliant actor. Unfortunately, he's also the only one I've been seriously considering to be Mafia until now.

I wonder what makes you think Mafia necessarily has to be one from each of these categories, though. Also, is there any way to make an informed guess as to how many members the Mafia would have to begin with? Considering we started off with a total of 12 players, couldn't there be 3 or more people on the scum team, maybe?

I'm not so sure about that. It's my experience that inexperienced scum tends to freak out about being on the other side. When that happened with me and Flying Jester, I had to alert him to mistakes he was making, make sure he kept talking and make sure he didn't look like he was too close to me but also that he didn't look totally distanced, because those are all big scum tells for inexperienced scum players. Because of that, I was able to make an obvious run for LockeZ in that game, and nobody noticed, even though I did things that should have confirmed me as scum.

Compare that to my other scum run, the last game I played, the one with Jeroen. Scum may have won that game, but you nailed me on night 2, because even though I wasn't obviously scum, I put out a lot of basic scum tells that experienced players take for granted (because they're tells that are common among both scum and town). Jeroen knew better, but because we were both experienced players, we had the confidence to make our moves without planning all of them out. I slipped. Jeroen didn't.

Also, I was pretty confused at piano's behavior yesterday (when he threatened to post his PM). It just seemed way too meta and kind of spoils the game. Does this sort of thing happen often?

As a vanilla town, I realized it was viable action. Cave_Dog always said that if you care about town willing, you need to be willing to sacrifice yourself. That didn't click until I remembered IvoryJones had said that mafia isn't a game you personally win. It's a group game. The team is the winner or loser, dead or alive. If one town wins, we all win. If we're scum hunting town, that means we're not hunting scum, which gives scum extra breathing room.
