i don't like coinflips either
apparently mafia didn't infect cause they just didn't feel like it. o well. If they had then the game would have been unwinnable. I still don't feel like I understood how that worked
If we had infected, yes, we definitely would have won. I don't honestly know why I thought nightkilling would be better than infecting. I can tell you that there was a tremendous amount of discussion about how fair this was, to the point that we were trying to get TL to tweak the game to make things a little more fair for town. I think all of that may have subliminally factored into the decision not to infect.
protecting from nightkills was not useless. but if mafia had infected again (and I don't think there was a reason not to, optimally) then that would have not come into play. What I meant was, the way he prevented infections was useless. It just...switches targets? That doesn't actually help town or hurt mafia.
it was just very weirdly balanced and town seemed to have little agency. Even if town had lynched correctly each time, if I had kept on shooting town, they would've probably lost still!! also the sk essentially became a second vig immediately.

author=pianotmoh...so it's you I have to thank for the sudden 1x a day dayvigs

Because you complained about Gourd's lynch and run. I wanted to give you the benefit of trying to convince me (though you couldn't have because I was scum). By the way, it was 5:00AM for me.
Haha, well it definitely worked. I figured there was no way someone who knew all the answers would stay up that late trying to figure out if I was innocent or not. Like I was so convinced I let some things fly on day 3 that should've really really been danger signs.

Would you believe we thought you were the serial killer and thought it would be better to kill because infection didn't guarantee a hit? Remember, I said CAVE role claimed. He denied it. I let him have his denial but didn't believe him. You're the one who convinced me he wasn't.
Good to hear, I figured the SK must've been either CAVE or IF after night 2 because anyone else in their right mind would've shot me. So on day 3 I tried to cover a bit.
But couldn't you have listed me, gourd, and cave as infection targets? No matter who you hit, you still would've outnumbered town. Or would the doctor's blocking actually fully nullify the infection? I was really just winging it in that post based on some junk Tangled said.
Oh yeah, @Tangled, please in the future no in-game commentary. Like answering questions with yes/no or rules explanation is fine when you're explicitly asked something but you 100% cleared Frogge for me (until piano ruined it jerk)
I think you should even be very careful what yes/no questions you answer. ideally a moderator should run a game the same as if a robot was running it, so no player reads are influenced by your comments.
I think it's also good policy to clear the votes whenever something like a dayvig happens (and add more time if someone shoots really close to the deadline). That way, the thing I did doesn't happen.

I think this may have been because we immediately killed off our actual vigilante at the slightest twitchiness. However I'm not really sure town should ever have to rely on vigilante to win.
Yes, TL. It was your first game, so a little hiccups in moderating are to be expected. My first game was about a month or so ago, and I tried hard not to let on who was who (especially after that double agent mechanic backfired on me), but yeah, you exposed a couple of vanilla players, namely Frogge and psy. Fortunately, psy did something scummy enough that I was able to get some reasonable suspicion on him, but still, a moderator can really affect a game just by addressing someone directly.
Here's an idea, if you must address the players aside from normal moderation, don't address anyone specifically. Also, try not to moderate behavior because that can be a big tell.

This is why I wanted to lynch CAVE day 1!
Good game everyone, though. lots of fun, murder and intrigue!
Can't wait for the next one :)

I guess that depends on how you want the game to work. I definitely see a balance issue with a vigilante existing and town, not having to rely on him, suddenly being OP. Generally, in a typical mafia game, balance is already against mafia.
I think a month long break from mafia is in order (but don't get me wrong. If one gets posted tomorrow, I'll probably sign up).

My mafia itch is endless, so I'd be down for a game sooner than later, for me at least.
Ditto, I'd sign up again. I got locked out of the last one due to a signup cap, of all things, not to mention several people who wanted to participate (odd, crystal) were unable to do so after rescheduling. Maybe whoever's next to host should put up an interest thread in a week, and if that doesn't reach critical mass, postpone? Similar to how this worked out?
also @Tunger I never subscribe to threads like this haha, just jump to last unread post

I can confirm I protected cave Night... 2 I think? I protected myself the rest of the time because, yeah, I couldn't do much
@psy But.. I-I voted for myself day 1. What scum does that? >.<
Edit: I would join another mafia~

Jfc I knew Cave Dog was SK but no one listens to me >.<
I honestly didn't expect YM to be infected. I did see piano being infected coming though.
But seriously how the hell didn't you guys figure out Cave Dog was mafia especially based off his shitty behaviour in the final day--

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

That moment when it turns out CAVE_DOG is actually a serial killer.
I've been watching this game form the sidelines. It definitely suffered from balance issues. Having 2 mafia and 3 converts means, as host, you have to calculate with 5 mafia. This, in a game with 12 people one of which is a serial killer, is just far too many. You want to try to have 1/4 of all people mafia, maybe slightly less. You definitely want at least 2/3 of all people to be town.
But such is to be expected from a first game. My Death Note mafia was just as unbalanced, with two scum having powers to influence the day vote.
Tangled, your setup was really cool, but, like others have said, you should try to keep interaction with the players to a minimum. This means only answering questions if they are informational to all alignments, and never talking to any one specific player. In the best case scenario, the only posts a host makes are votecounts and begin/end of day posts. I'm sure you'll do much better when you host your second game! ^^

maybe people would have listened to you if you had played the game instead of attempting to throw it. alas.

Well I honestly I did seriously explain why I thought you were scum MULTIPLE TIMES but still just got dismissed.

Frogge, you kind of brought that upon yourself with your "I'm purposefully being suspicious" and "I haven't read any of the posts in this thread, lol" spiel.
