How does someone else claiming a random role name, which from what you say are pretty generic-sounding, confirm them? From what you've said your power doesn't confirm "These roles are in the game and psy is one of them." It says "Psy is one of these."
No, you're right it doesn't, but I have three words from ten pages of possible words. Those "generic" sounding roles are still a pretty narrow eye to thread since I, and the person with the role are the only ones that knows what two of those words are.
How wouldn't that result in a solid town read?

I don't think we have to generate a contradiction now -- we necessarily lock scum into patterns of behavior that match their fakeclaims, and scum with neutral roles are forced to explain the reasoning of their behavior and wield their roles in a way that seems "townie." For instance, if someone claimed roleblocker, and the cop got roleblocked, we'd kill the blocker.
I'm also not so worried about RB or penetrative roles. RB would be forced to wield their power townishly (see above) and penetration should be 1-shot. I doubt Piano is the only investigative role, and he's already claimed -- an assassin would probably kill him tonight anyway to get through Demonlord.

According to demon, there's a vig. If there's also a cop, he can only protect one of them and odds are we lose one of the two. Or if we have a third useful PR they die because demon won't protect them. Or if scum indeed has a roleblocker the cop is dead.

Yes, we will lose PRs, but if we all have PRs that was going to happen anyway. I'm confident (especially with information from my own role) that we'll be able to play better with our cards up.

I kind of don't like the idea of a massclaim.
I can also throw all three words out. If someone claims them that can also work to our advantage, because then, as psy said, they would have to act like town to avoid being scum read, or they could be counterclaimed.

Don't say without every player claiming beforehand. That doesn't buy anything but give scum reasonable fake claims (plus loses non-RB-me a way to verify).

you're missing my point. according to you there are no guarantee that those roles are in the game. someone claiming them doesnt mean anything.

Well then, I shouldn't say them, should I? With 10 pages of possible roles available for mafia/werewolf, anyone landing on one of the unspoken roles is going to have some solid town cred.

I'm with piano on this one -- there's no /guarantee/, sure, but if someone's claimed role is Paranoid Miller or something obscure, and piano happened to get a result of Paranoid Miller, it's pretty damn likely that both 1) all roles piano gets are in game and 2) the claimer is telling the truth.
there's no such thing as a paranoid miller. and no it isn't, on both counts. i envision a future where you both end up treating scum as confirmed town because o fthis.

I don't think that town-Piano's info is useless without a full claim beforehand, and I don't think that town-Piano lives through the night if his info is useful. Which reinforces that we need to claim.

I'm nervous about a massclaim.
But also, there is kind of a guarantee that these roles are in the game. Muffle might have, hypothetically, in theory stated something along the lines that that's what she thought we'd use my ability for, figuratively speaking. It might have potentially happened when in an alternate reality, she contacted me, worrying that I may have theoretically wanted her to replace me.
Of course, this is all hypothetical. Also:

I just think you're stretching your arguments all out of proportion and then acting like I'm an idiot because I don't flatly accept your exceptionally narrow and egotistical interpretation of things. That's definitely worth a middle finger, if not at the very least a lynch vote.

The point is that there's no such thing. The idea is that if someone calls a "no such thing" role before Piano reveals what results he got, then suddenly "no such thing" role becomes extremely credible.
If the result is a dirt-common role, then fine, we weight its towniness much less heavily.
