PIXEL GAME MAKER MV!!

Posts

6/22 was a guess since it's a Friday, games and software like to release on Fridays for well obvious reasons (getting the user to use it as much as possible over the weekend).

Still shocked they won't tells us, hey early access begins on, 10% off pre-orders!
Visual coding scares me, if there's no math functions it's gonna suck as even if you're not a programmer you can figure out what the math functions do as you want sin and cos for pushing objects back using atan2 and some just use angle(x1,y2,x2,y1) looking at you Construct 3.

Doubtful we'll see collider2D being used but hopefully the shapes customizable or a polygon.

I really wish they went with an event system, this is an area fusion and construct got right (the zelda esque rpg for construct for example is pretty accurate, has some face directional issues but that's a programming error not constructs)
I've never really tried using those.
I'm trying to currently wrap my brain around Game Maker Studio 2.. and it's confusing me.. there's no base to start from.. no easy way to implement sample code for little things i can't do on my own.. kinda how RPG maker MV has blugins others make..
What's confusing?
Shader editor?
Script Editor?
Objects?
Room Editor?

Construct 3 is another option if you're not into scripting, but you can extend with javascript.

Game Maker doesn't have a base, you have to program all the logic yourself.
GM has an influx of tutorials on youtube, the subreddit is very active as well as the discord server.

You will want to get used to using parent objects so you don't have to loop thru which enemy you are attacking, also useful for hero's to but if you're only going to have 1-3 they can have their own objects.

Will point out a large rpg will have organization issues...
This is very good news! can`t wait to try some Megaman style game or something of the sort...

And it's out (in early access). Anyone tried it out already?

Umm... it's not released yet.
I waited until noon as steam updates at noon but it's not released.
So, if you see that it's available what's the price?
Yeah, it's not available yet..
Probably won't be until next month some time.
They announced price in the steam discussions, around $99 USD so basically $100.

Oh man, that feels really steep for an early access program. I'd expect it around that when it's finished.
$100 is pretty bad and yes that's early access pricing... Better Off buying construct 3 or game maker studio 2 which offer more features out of the box.
Depends to me.. if it's easier to make what I want to make than those you listed, i rather pay the 100 bucks. Plus did people forget how much MV was when it first came out? I remember paying quite a bit more than 100.
I paid $71.99 but I think that was discounted, even the day of wasn't near $100.
It's always been around $79 for the longest time. RPG Maker MV is specialized niche game development software so obviously niche software costs more, Pixel Game Maker MV is not niche software at all it's generalized software like Godot, Unity, Game Maker, Construct, etc.

They won't confirm a notebox/script box (using code vs visual code) or that some nodes can have algorithms. They also won't confirm math functions so it's not as diverse as Construct 3s event sheets(I can actually write custom algorithms!)

I was told it will have a similar feel to AGM/IGM and then I was like, okay this engines dead before it's even released...

Thank god users can basically let them know what they think before actual launch, I don't expect a smooth launch but the real question is will they actually listen? Me and my friends in Japan are going with no...

Edit:

Officially confirmed Cocos2d-x will be used!

Edit 2:

More info is supposed to be coming in a few days :)
Supposedly we're getting closer to release according to their facebook and twitter feed.
So maybe my assumption of early July was correct.. I don't expect it to be August.. though they could surprise me.
August makes no sense since that would leave a month a few weeks for a summer release... I'm already nervous as hell with how limited the nodes appear to be...

At the end of the day I can just straight up code in javascript if I wanted to.
100 euros...

i'll never make to it. :(

real reason: my brother paid lots of fortnite items with my dad's credit card and my parents took us credit cards away, so i'll never manage to buy the software. my hopes are ruined.

Giving credit cards to children is always a bad idea...

Keep in mind $100 may end up being the full price once it actually is fully released and not in early access, I would expect a 10-20% discount on early access.

I can't....i'm not a programmer...
I'm just a pixel artist.. i can do stories as well... maybe some audio.
But programming is beyond my skill set, and since i've never been good at math or anything number related, it's just not something am good at, which is why it's important to me that this is as easy as they say it is.
I've tried everything else out there.. i can't grasp it.
SO, great.. you can javascript.. wonderful, good for you.
I can't.. i just.. i can't.
IG MAKER's UI is a mess & so is the workflow in it. Pixel Game Maker's UI is so beautiful & simple like RPG MAKER MV. you can learn it at a glance & the workflow looks 10 times faster than IG MAKER!. as you know, there are many game engines that offer you visual programming like construct2,gms2,clickteamfusion2.5 & others, but they all feel like you are writing code. this is going to be totally different in pixel game maker mv. anyone will be able to program their games with ease with the new programming system by just taking a quick look at it!.

For those of you who think this new 2d game engine is going to fail...let me tell you that you are wrong!. i can assure you,we all are going to be surprised by kadokawa with this new tool. this will be the easiest & powerful enough 2d game engine for newbie & pro developers to make metroidvania or zelda style games!.

I tell you all these things, cuz i watched a video from IGN japan where 1 developer was showing off the engine for 10 minutes. the engine looks very well structured & versatile.for me the UI looks way better than GMS2,CONSTRUCT2,CLICKTEAMFUSION & UNITY.you guys already know what this engine is capable of,so,you shouldn't worry about it.let's just wait eagerly for the early access to come out!.

i hate to break it to you but every iteration of visual scripting is going to "feel like writing code" (even Scratch programming) and you can't even explain why it won't be the case this time. if you're willing to put up with crazy spider web messes then you can probably handle an IDE interface. idk man people are way too hopeful this, i'm worried someone here put their life savings in kadokawa stock or something...
Keep in mind, it's early access and they do want feedback.
So early on i hope folks who jump onboard tell them what's wrong, and tell them what's right and tell them how to improve.
But I just hope they listen.
I still say it would have been better had they just focused on a genre like they have for years with RPG maker.
They need to just release different makers for different genres.. i think it would help.
