There is one way, but you'll need to reorder the tree structure later.
Make a separate new project and make as many new maps as you had before. Contents are irrelevant because they just need to be there to build the tree from.
After you have your map tree skeleton built in this new project, save game and go into the project folder. You're gonna want to find RPG_RT.lmt. Not the .ldb one, the .lmt one. This is what contains the map tree.
Now, copy-paste that map tree file into your other project folder. If you did it right, you should be able to open your game once more. Unless you remember what you named every map and named them accordingly in the map tree skeleton, you're probably not gonna get the map names back, but at least it's something.
Also, as a note, you may want to make sure that the blank project and your current project are using the same versions of 2k3. I haven't heard of any major incompatibilities, but one can never be too careful. Also, it goes without saying that you should back up any files that you may want to recover later just in case things go pear-shaped.

If it's not your game, why are you posting here about it, and not on the gamejolt page you linked earlier so that the developer can read it? Fixing broken games is not a responsibility that falls on players.
what Marrend said but also like, lucky you you're just a player and not the dev, to the OP.
because I've seen this error before and my experience with it was nowhere near as optimistic as lavendersiren's breakdown. "your project is fucked, hope you have a recent backup" is what I've always seen be the end result of map tree data corruption.
