Whoa.

Was honestly wondering if we'd get a new one after MV.

With no details yet, it's hard to be excited. Especially after MV underwhelmed me. I'll be waiting on the sidelines to see what they do with this new one, but I can only hope we get a robust, well made engine and that they don't walk back any of the features of previous RPG Makers like they sometimes do.

Yeah, I think I would need more than a statement/video of "It's coming!" before I can be excited for a new RPG Maker. As for MV, the only thing I regret about not getting MV is not being able to help people, and look stuff up in regards to code-related issues on the same level that I can assist with Ace-related issues.

*Edit: Though, I guess my opportunities for a certain achievement has dwindled somewhat because of that as well.
I generally like MV and think it's the best of all the RPG Makers out there.

My hope is to get an MV Ace with more built in features and XP-style mapping.
At last

RPG Maker 2

EDIT: Also if I've ever said I'll eat my own hat about there not being any more new RPG Makers, I will uphold that. Just need to find a hat.

I love when companies do these "Hey, we're doing a thing! Get hype! ...what? No, we're not telling or showing anything. No, we're not hiding it because it's extremely mediocre and underwhelming! GET HYPE ALREADY!!!" things.

Make a hat out of delicious meatloaf.
The new RPG Maker will be a reboot based on the service model, where it will only be called "RPG Maker". It will be subscription-based and have a built-in asset store and the only way to import stuff into the maker is by going through said asset store.

RMaaS (RPG-Maker-as-a-Service)

Can we get a remake of 2k (or 2k3) pleeeeeeeaaass
RPG Maker 2k20 incoming.

They will instead lean hard into the retro appeal of RPG Maker. Assets will be 16x16 again. A modern remaster of 2k/3, basically, with the fresh abilities to export to more platforms, and more feature rich engine. 2k3 projects can just be straight up imported into it, no hassle.

Given that the policy seems to be "remove anything the US users like"...
I have to disagree a bit here, XP was a glorius upgrade over 2k and 2k3.

I am optimistic, I would like a proper 3rd layer for B-E tiles. For it to retain javascript but upgrade the libraries to allow for the last few years of development. I would also like a return to pixel (not painted) tiles and taller/less chibi sprites.
pretty sure it's just on brand maintenance at this point

here's my rant on twitter: https://twitter.com/choinheap/status/1268563928319242246
Isn't the pattern that, every 2nd maker, they just soup-up the previous one? 2k became 2k3. XP became VX. VX Ace... okay, maybe the trend was broken or it's in my head.

But it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to just be RPG Maker MV Ace.
XP is the only outlier but I assume originally it was intended that every RPG Maker match the operating system they were designed for (RM95 came out in 98... hence it was for Windows 95). But operating systems are in a different model now so that's kind of done.

2k and 2k3 are 3 years apart, VX and Ace are 4 years apart, MV has been out for 5... either there's a pattern of each upgrade taking 1 year longer or hopefully there's a cutoff point.
They pretty much just announced the incoming announcement of a new RPG Maker.
If it's another 2D RPG Maker, i hope they fixed the auto tiles.
Auto tiles have sucked hard since VX..
VX VX Ace and MV all use the same annoying layout for auto tiles.
I'm sort of hoping for something more along the lines of Pixel Game Maker as far as tile sets and assets go.
I love the options PGM has for tile sizes, as well as tileset sizes.
XP was awesome.. both in terms of how auto tiles were made "3x3 equal parts" and the size of a tileset could be all you want.
They need to let me choose how many layers I WANT, not restrict me to how many they think I NEED.
It should be my choice.. and i should be able to put what ever tiles i want on what ever layer i want..
VX VXAce and MV all 3 were downgrades in my opinion compared to the flexibility of XP.

Now, with all that said..
If they decide to add "3D" features.. i hope it's not difficult to work with.. and i sort of hope it's all optional.

*new rpgmaker gets announced*

The defining feature of MV was the ability to deploy to multiple platforms. They probably want to keep that. Though, I'm not sure how well-optimized the various builds are under MV's implementation.

I do feel MV was pushed out the door too soon, and did not have enough quality assurance. Like, I remember complaints about how item-lists (or the like) were slow to populate when working in the editor. Like, why was that even a thing? Not to mention that the initial side-view offering was... somehow... worse than 2K3's? I'm pretty sure it was a comment Craze made back then, and Nessy bemoaning the point.

We can dream. Just give me something that can be converted to Unity like Smile Game Builder so I can port to the console. Unless they are going to use a programming language that can support porting to consoles. That would be nice too.
