NHL 2020 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS / POOL PREDICTION THREAD ~ CORONA-CHAN EDITION ~

Round 1 Picks here:
Habs 4-2
Blue Jackets 4-0 (Can they do it again? I think they have the Lightning's number.)
Caps 4-2
Canes 4-3
Knights 4-0
Arizona 4-2
Flames 4-3
Vancouver 4-2
Oh, thank god that the Oilers, Leafs or Penguins didn’t manage to get the number one overall pick in the draft lottery today. I don’t like the Rangers that much either, but considering that they’ve decided to tear it down a few years ago and commit to a full rebuild and have managed to have some success while doing it thus far, I think this is fine.
I will laugh SO hard if that happens again, lol. I mean, come on, Tampa, they don’t even have Bobrovsky anymore (although, apparently, that didn’t seem to matter that much against the Leafs, lol). This your golden opportunity for revenge! Don’t make me have to break out this video from last year:

I'm okay with the Rangers getting first pick. Would have preferred Florida though because I think they've struggled enough lately and deserve to have something good to come their way, but ah well.

Wait, didn’t Florida already get the number one overall pick a few years ago and drafted Ekblad??? Either way, they didn’t deserve to get it either, bunch of losers.
Anyways, it’s do or die time! I can’t be in the basement for a second year in a row. I just can’t!
So with that, I’m going with…
Golden Knights Over Blackhawks In 5
I’m pretty much going with the majority here and picking the Golden Knights in this one as well. Their team from top to bottom is just completely rock solid and should have no problems getting past the Blackhawks.
Avalanche Over Coyotes In 6
Although the Coyotes probably have the better goaltending tandem and are maybe "slightly" better on defence, still, Colorado is heavily favored in this matchup and should have no problems beating the Coyotes. (However, the last time I underestimated the Coyotes they ended up winning against the Predators, who were a much better team than them on paper, so…maybe this one isn't going to be as lopsided as we think.)
Stars Over Flames In 7
I honestly have no choice but to pick the Stars if I have any chance of making a comeback and winning this thing. Hopefully they’ve wakened up from their five month slumber and are ready to go!
Blues Over Canucks In 6
Obviously I’m going to cheer as hard as I can for the Canucks to win this series, of course. But, ultimately, this is probably where the bucks stops for the young Canucks. St.Louis is just too good on paper to fail here.
Flyers Over Canadiens In 6
Is Carey Price that good enough to steal this series from a much more dangerous Flyers team??? I’m not entirely sure that he can pull off a second straight miracle here, but I think the Canadiens manage to hang in there with the Flyers long enough to make it interesting.
Lightning Over Blue Jackets In 7
The rematch of the ages! While I don’t believe either team is going to sweep the other for the lolz, I expect this one to be an absolute barnburner. But the Lightning do get the last laugh and end up taking it over the Blue Jackets in the end (otherwise...come on).
Islanders Over Capitals In 5
In another one of my desperate attempts of making up some ground here, I’m going to go with the Islanders in this one as one of my surprise picks. The former Caps coach and goaltender from years past gets some much needed payback against their former team as they knock out the Caps in frustrating fashion.
Hurricanes Over Bruins In 7
Come on, this series has to go seven and who else to win a game 7 than the jerks from Carolina (since they’re so good at doing that). Considering that the Hurricanes were swept last year by these same Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals, I think they have enough to get it done and move on.
- That's the spirit! Let's see if either of us can get more than three correct this time around, lol.

Playoff Update:
Ultimately, it was just too much to overcome for the Chicago Blackhawks as they are taken care of swiftly by the Vegas Golden Knights in 5 Games. (Good effort, though.)
Addit, Kentona, Kory_Toombs and UPRC all managed to pick up 2 Points each for predicting that the Golden Knights would move on to the second round. Addit and UPRC also managed to predict that the series would go 5 and they both receive 4 Points each instead of the usual 2. Basically, there are no losers today.
Kory_Toombs is now only 1 point ahead of UPRC for the lead.
- The Bracket, Leaderboard and Thread have now all been updated!
I’m so happy that Dallas decided to wake up and start playing some actual good hockey for once. (Come on, boys. Seal the deal...! But, you know, can you, like...maybe win it in seven so I can get some much needed bonus points, pretty please???)
And tomorrow is a pretty crucial day! If the Lightning, Flyers and Bruins should all happen to win tomorrow, UPRC will receive a crapton of points (16 to be exact) and he’ll then have a MASSSIVVVEEE lead over all of us in the standings. He’ll be in the thirty point range while the rest of are only in the tens. This cannot happen and, hopefully, WILL not happen. So everyone - let us pray...!

“Oh…in the name of the heavenly hockey gods that is the great Gordie Howe and Pat Burns, let all thy series' that come forth be extended beyond another day, so there shall be great rejoicing from everyone that is not UPRC. Amen.”

Two down, one to go. I don't want my Habs to go out, but I'm being realistic here. They really shouldn't even be here, haha.
Playoff Update:
Earlier today, in overtime, the Tampa Bay Lightning managed to get revenge for last year’s embarrassing first round playoff exit by dispatching the Columbus Blue Jackets in 5 Games to move on to the second round of the playoffs.
Both Addit and UPRC managed to pick up 2 Points each for sticking with the Lightning. UPRC, however, managed to also predict that the series would go to five and he manages to pick himself up an extra two, for 4 Points total.
Also, apparently, no Tuukka Rask - no problem - as the Boston Bruins win a gutsy performance over the Carolina Hurricanes in 5 Games and move on to the next round no problem.
UPRC is the HUUUGGGEEE winner today as not only did he manage to pick the Bruins to win the series and guess the correct number of games right, but because the Bruins are his Stanley Cup Pick, he also receives double the points and scores himself a whopping 8 Points for his efforts (holy moly!). Kentona, however, manages to salvage himself a crucial Single Point in the standings for at least predicting that the series would also go five.
And finally, in an apparent déjà vu of Game 4, the Arizona Coyotes looked completely overwhelmed by the awesomeness that is Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche as they fall to them in 5 Games.
Addit, Kentona and UPRC all managed to pick up 2 Points each for their efforts. But it’s Kentona who manages to rule the day as he managed to successfully predict that the series would go five, so he picks up 4 Points instead of 2.
- - -
But thanks to the Bruins and Lightning winning today, UPRC now has a MASSSIIIVVVEEE lead over the rest of the competition, as he becomes the first participant to hit the thirty point plateau while the rest are pretty much dogfighting for second, third and fourth spot. Although not mathematically over as of yet, UPRC is in the driver’s seat.
- The Bracket, Leaderboard and Thread have now all been updated!
* Finds out that the Bruins and Lightning won today *
God damn it…! That deep hole of mine is now deeper than ever before (despite the fact that I’m 3-1 so far in this round - and doing much better compared to 2-6 in the qualifiers, lol.). Now I’m going to need Dallas and New York to do me a huge solid tomorrow and win (although, preferably, for Dallas, I would like them to win in seven...but whatever, beggars can't be choosers).
Kory can also rebound back in this thing if the Canucks happen to defeat the Blues on Friday. So although we're all behind the eight-ball right now - it's not technically over just yet.
(Also, I had to do a double take on the Avalanche, Coyotes game today; 7-1, again...!?!?!? I thought it was the score from Game 4 on Monday but - nope, lol - they did it again! What a joke. I can't believe that I had such faith in them and they manage to pull this stunt!? Wow...)

And now watch them (after you just said that) come back from 3-1 down and beat the Flyers, lol. That would be funny and SO Philadelphia.
But seriously, Montreal should be proud of themselves to get this far and put up such a fight. I don’t know why they don’t play up to their potential more often…but whatever.
I think I'll still have a chance as long as the Canucks win in 6 games...
Giving me 25 points in total.
Otherwise this will be a battle for last place.

Two words: injuries and slumps. When the team was healthy and not losing for 5-10 game in a row, they were really on it. The Habs were even comfortably a top 10 team in the first part of the season before everything went to hell for them. If I recall, they were even ahead of the Leafs before the slumps started.
All right, Islanders!
Now I just need Dallas to take of business either tonight or in Game 7 and I'm back in business. *crosses fingers*

Playoff Update:
The Washington Capitals decided to check out early this season and take a looonnng nap as they are easily brushed aside by the New York Islanders in 5 Games.
Addit is the only who managed to score any points in this one, as not only does he manage to pick up two points for predicting that the Isles would win, but he also successfully predicted that the series would go five, giving him 4 Points in this one.
Also today, in somewhat anti-climactic fashion, the Calgary Flames had a 3-0 lead slip away in the second period as the Dallas Stars score seven unanswered goals to take care of them in 6 Games and move on to the next round to play against the Colorado Avalanche.
Just like with the Islanders and Capitals series, Addit is the only who manages to pick up any points - yet again - as he receives 2 Points for predicting that the Stars would win that also doubles to four points because the Stars are his Stanley Cup Pick.
- - -
Addit has now rocketed up in the standings to second place overall, passing Kory_Toombs in the process; UPRC, however, is still in the lead.
- The Bracket, Leaderboard and Thread have now all been updated!
@ GreatRedSpirit - Nah...you would have been smart and bet AGAINIST the Flames this year, like I’ve done so far with the Canucks. Sometimes, you just gotta put team loyalty aside for the greater good…
I can’t believe Dallas managed to come back from 3-0 down and score seven unanswered goals to knock the Flames out! I thought that for sure that they would go to a seventh game, but - nope - not happening! I can’t wait when Calgary panics in the offseason and spends a ton of money on Braden Holtby or Matt Murray only to still fail, lol.
If the Canucks happen to win tomorrow, this might be a three-way battle for first place instead. (Poor Kentona, though, if that happens.)

Next year, I am going to go about making my picks as usual, and then I am going to WRITE DOWN THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE. Then I might have a chance.
Where is the summer movie thread?? I do better there.

It is 100% in style for the Flames to throw away a perfectly good lead. 7 goals is just going out with a bang for them!
