NHL 2020 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS / POOL PREDICTION THREAD ~ CORONA-CHAN EDITION ~

Yes, I needed to wait for Addit to make his picks, who finally after many years is finally in the driver seat. With that said, I'll give it all I can---
Golden Knights 4-2
I think I can afford to vote for at least 1 team your voting for, but a different amount of games.
Islanders 4-3
I have to vote not only against you, but a different amount of games. I really don't believe they can do it, but what choice to I have.
If all goes right I'll get 8 points and you'll get 2. Leaving me enough points to bounce back in the final. I can't really control what UPRC does here, I can only focus on getting to 40 with you getting as little as possible.
Hey, coming into this thing, I would have just been happy if I finished higher than third place. ANYTHING is better than being in last like last year.
Also, I'm guessing that if things stay exactly the same that Kentona will be the next one to finally end his losing streak next year and win, right? If I can do it, then it's his turn next. It's only fitting.

Surprised you guys didn't wait for me to do my picks and then do the complete opposite to guarantee the win.
Anywho, I am going to go for complete team effort this time and go:
East
Islanders over Lightning in 6
West
Golden Knights over Stars in 6

Uh oh... It looks like we got ourselves a Code Orange here!
Okay, now I’m starting to get a LITTTLLLEEE worried that the impossible might suddenly become possible now with Dallas winning tonight and now being up 3-1 in their series. Because before coming into this thing, whilst doing the math, in every single possible scenario - except one - I would still be in the lead with half of those outcomes (mainly the Lightning winning their series in any fashion) with a chance to clinch. The only scenario where I would be in the second place coming into the finals would be if Dallas won in six games and New York won in seven and - what do we have right here: one of those outcomes possibly happening and the other one could also happen if Brayden Point is out for any given time for the Lightning. (Jesus...)
I swear, if I happen to blow this thing and UPRC happens to come back from six points down and beat me in the end, I’m going to seriously cry and ever regret posting that Simpsons meme from earlier. I mean…come on, guys - I'M SO CLOSE!!! Don't you DARE do this to me!

Oh. And there is one other thing that I should probably make official (even though it was official for quite some time now, lol):
So...apparently, Kentona DID manage to tank after all, as there was no possible scenario where he would have a chance to claw back in the standings. I should have updated and announced this earlier, but…meh.
Oh well, at least you got something out of it this year instead of bupkis like last year. That's good, right?
Playoff Update:
It was over before the Conference Finals ever began, but congratulations, Kentona! You have earned yourself The Draft Lottery Winner Award for finishing in the basement this year. Well done!
It all started off with the Oilers disappointing you (yet again) before everything started tumbling down the mountain right after that and you just couldn’t recover. It was a tough year this year for you... But hopefully, with this achievement, you can come back even stronger for next year and show those monkeys whose boss!
You will receive your reward at the end of the duration of the Stanley Cup Finals!
Thank you for playing!

I didn't foresee a scenario in which Dallas played well.
Yeah, I’m honestly surprised that Dallas has done so well despite being outplayed in almost every single game against the Golden Knights thus far. I never would have imagined that they would have much of a chance with the way that the Golden Knights have played against the Blackhawks and the Canucks, but they’ve done quite well for themselves, and Anton Khudobin has played great! I know that it’s not quite officially over as of yet, and that the Golden Knights could still make the comeback, but it seems like ever since Game 5 against the Canucks that the Golden Knights have forgotten how to put the puck in the net. It’s like they still have visions of Thatcher Demko dancing in their heads.

I'm an Oilers fan to the core, I guess!
Hey, one of these days they’ll happen to get their shit together and - who knows, maybe that year might be next year? You should never give up on your home team, no matter how dire the situation might be.
Oh, thank GOD that Tampa Bay managed to irk out a win last night. My chest feels a bit better after watching that. *phew*
All right. So for tonight’s game and tomorrows, if Dallas should happen to win either Game 5 or Game 6, Kory_Toombs will then be officially eliminated and it will just be down to UPRC and myself for this year’s champion. Kory also can not have the Lightning win their series at all or he’s also officially eliminated. He basically needs either Dallas to win in Game 7 or the Golden Knights to come all the way back and win in Game 7 and the Islanders to also come back from 3-1 down to beat the Lightning in order to still have a remote chance of possibly winning the pool. (He’s basically hanging by a thread at this point.)
Also, should Tampa Bay win in either Game 5 tomorrow or Game 7, I’ll officially clinch at least a tie for first place and then UPRC will ABSOLUTELY need Dallas to win in Game 6 or he’s toast. If Tampa Bay wins in Game 6, however, I’ll officially clinch the title and UPRC will then be eliminated.
So these next few games are going to probably decide pretty much everything. Heck, it still even mathematically possible for a three-way tie for first place to happen under the right circumstances. Either way, it shall be fun!

Playoff Update:
Despite being up 2-0 in tonight’s game, the Vegas Golden Knights just couldn’t hold on to force a Game 6 as their lead slipped away in the 3rd period, as the Dallas Stars, in a bit of an upset, managed to take care of the Knights in 5 Games and now move on to the Stanley Cup Finals, their first in 20 years.
UPRC was the only one who had a hunch that the Stars would win this one, and manages to pick himself up a crucial 2 Points to keep himself mathematically still alive. Addit, who went against his Stanley Cup Pick in this one (you a**hat), still managed to pick up a very crucial Single Point for predicting that the series would go five.
- - -
Addit’s overall lead has now shrunken a tiny bit, but he’s still leads UPRC by 5 points with a chance for the Lightning to wrap up their series for a chance to clinch the title of this year’s champion. And, also, due to the Dallas’ win tonight, Kory_Toombs, last year’s champion, is now mathematically eliminated.
- The Bracket, Leaderboard and Thread have now all been updated!
Aw, man, out of all the possible results that could have helped me out, I’m SOOOOOO glad that Dallas decided to win this one and not in Game 6 instead! Now I still have my big cushion lead over UPRC with only two series left to go! (In comparison, that’s basically him taking one of my pillows off of my couch, no biggie; I still got a lot of pillows left.)
So now if the Lightning happen to win their series in any number of games over the Islanders - the dream of winning has now become a reality! (And with a possible chance of nabbing that Crystal Clairvoyant Award that Shinan almost won last year if the Stars should happen to win the Stanley Cup in the end.) However, should the Islanders happen to come back and win the series - then’s we got a race! (I don’t want that.)

I was very sure the Golden Knights would be the champs after beating the Canucks, but it looks like it might be the Lightning this year. Looks like Addit finally managed to do it this year. Lucky guy!
So hopefully tonight’s the night that the Lightning crush the Islanders and move on to the Stanley Cup Finals and END this madness. I mean, for god’s sake, they were playing the Na, Na, Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Goodbye song at my grocery store today - that had to mean something!
If they happen to LOSE tonight, then…uh oh...
Fixed that for you.
Honestly, if it’s Tampa Bay and Dallas in the Finals, I seriously don’t know who’s going to win that one, that’s a toughie... I’ll probably vote for Dallas if the matchup happens, but…I’m not so sure who's going to win... Dallas has knocked off some pretty impressive teams and have really defied the odds this year, and the Lightning are playing through some tough injuries of their own but keep managing to make it by just fine, so...I dunno.

Playoff Update:
The New York Islanders and Semyon Varlamov did all that they possibly could – and almost managed to pull it off again – but it wasn’t meant to be, as the Tampa Bay Lightning finally managed to get that series win in 6 Games and now move on to face the Dallas Stars for the Stanley Cup.
Addit is the only who picked the Lightning to beat the Islanders and receives 2 Points, which turns into 4 Points for also predicting that the series would go to six. Kentona also manages to pick up a Single Point, too.
And with that, UPRC is now officially eliminated – which means, that congratulations, Addit! You are this year’s winner of the NHL 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs / Pool Prediction Thread ~ Corona-Chan Edition ~ and have earned yourself The David Ayres Award!
It was a HORRRRRRIBLE start for you in the Qualifying Round going 2-5-1, but then you managed to get your bloody shit together and go 11-1-2 to pull off the Christmas miracle and rocketed yourself up straight into the lead for the win. After five years of pain and misery, followed by last year’s choke job - you finally get to be on top for once!
In addition, You will also receive a 2020 championship banner that will hang above the virtual rafters of RMN Place right beside the rest of the legends for all of eternity!
You will receive your reward at the end of the duration of the Stanley Cup Finals!
Thank you for playing!

FINALLY!!! After all of these years (and, god damn it, Lightning - why did you almost have to give me a heart attack there!?), I have FINALLY won one of these blasted things, I seriously can’t believe it!
I thought that after the Qualifying Round that I was DONE, had no chance at all, was pretty much battling Kentona for the basement (again...). And then, I suddenly started getting predictions right! And then Dallas managed to pull it off against Colorado in Game 7 in overtime and that’s what mainly did it for me. If Dallas got eliminated in that game, it probably would have been a MUCH different story, but, holy shit.
And El Waka has the audacity to give my character a Luck rating of 0. FOR SHAME...!!!

So now we got one more series left.
It’s optional at this point, but for all of those who are still interested in finishing things strong, I’ll need your Stanley Cup Finals pick in by Wednesday, September 23rd @ 5:00 P.M. PST, 8:00 P.M. EST just before the start of Game 3.
There are still some things left to play for, actually. If Kory_Toombs can somehow manage to get 4 Points and UPRC doesn’t happen to get anything in the finals, then he’ll move up and tie UPRC for second place overall. And as for myself, if Dallas should happen to win the Stanley Cup against Tampa Bay, I’ll earn myself a second achievement with the Crystal Clairvoyant Award. Shinan almost won this award last year with the Bruins, so I’ll wonder if I’ll be able to get it this year?
And with that, I’m OBVIOUSLY going to pick the Stars Over Lightning In 6. I got nothin' to lose, so might as well give Dallas my support. And as for why in six? I...just have a funny feeling about the number six in this one.
Stanley Cup Finals:
(2) Tampa Bay Lightning V.S. (3) Dallas Stars
