Moby Dick is pretty cool if you imagine it in your head in those Wind Waker cell shaded graphics.
Or if you read every spoken line like Sean Connery is saying it.
My high school banned us from reading moby dick because anything with the word "dick" in it made the class laugh haha.
Moby Dick is significantly less cool when you actually grew up on Nantucket and had whaling history jammed down your throat every year in school :(

e: also demondestiny yes we had a field day with Moby Dick the white sperm whale :D paging Dr. Freud!

e part deux: the edition of Moby Dick we read contained an illustration of a "dork", or whale penis.

To Kill a Mockingbirdis great, and yes, it's one of the few books we were assigned in middle and high school that didn't seem like a deliberate attempt to make us hate reading. Sorry, English teachers, I just can't see how the hell a teenager in this day and age is supposed to relate to Sense and Sensibility or Moby Dick.

f u I love Pride & Prejudice (I still need to finish the zombie version!)
I saw Pride & Prejudice & Zombies in a bookstore once. My wife didn't find the concept as amusing as I did.
I've heard good things about pride and prejudice and zombies.
A mate is reading this version instead of the original for his ALevels. I told him i thought it unwise, but he seems to think it's fine.
I saw Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters at my Borders. I kinda want to read the original versions first.

Unaccustomed Earth took a long long time to finish, but it was still a really good book. Jhumpa Lahiri is just a calmly-paced writer.

The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke. Most of the sci-fi I like is Clarke, and I don't like that much sci-fi.

It's the exact same text, just with zombies added.
Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris. I don't really want to read it but it's short and my friend's book club is rapidly losing members after only two meetings, so it'd help her for me to be present.

Trashy horror at its finest. On my copy the woman's head is a little off center. I wish I could find a scan of the inside picture, it's hilarious.
I'm reading loads:

Michael Moorcock's JERRY CORNELL'S COMIC CAPERS (funny agent spoof--poor editing though)
Maurice Dantec's GRAND JUNCTION (literary sci-fi.... it's okay... I like and then sometimes it's a drag to read)
John Marco's THE DEVIL'S ARMOR (not nearly as good as the EYES OF GOD... but it's getting there)
Brian DeLeeuw's IN THIS WAY I WAS SAVED (surprisingly good.... I expected it to be shit)
Stephen Donaldson's A DARK AND HUNGRY GOD ARISES (greatest sci-fi book ever written.... this book is sooooo good... HIGHLY recommend)

Bunch of short stories by Neil Gaiman (FRAGILE) and Jay McInerney (HOW IT ENDED)
I have a very very tough time trying to read more than one book at a time. Last year we had to read To Kill a Mockingbird in English, but I was reading The Amber Spyglass already, and while I tried to balance it out I ended up stopped about 100 pages into Amber and finishing TKaM a month before we were supposed to. Fortunately it's a fantastic book. :D That and The Great Gatsby are the only school-read books I've enjoyed. Fuck you, Ethan Frome and A Separate Peace. Lord of the Flies, I don't like you personally but I guess I can see why you're so renowned.

Swimming in the Monsoon Sea by Shyam Selvadurai. Gay young adult fiction. We'll see how it is.

I'm re-re-reading the Harry Potter series.
I just read a very :3 gay short young adult story by David Levithan, and am now continuing on to more manly things like No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai.

I just re-read Sidewinder and thought how J.T.Edson is a lot like an RM developer. He puts out shorter, sweeter books because it's his passion; instead of making big expensive ones written to feed the masses for mountains of $$$.

Edson rules.
According to his Wikipedia page he was kind of a prick.

He was kind of prick. He's also an awesome short-novel writer with an awesome marketing tactic.*
