WHAT VIDEOGAMES ARE YOU PLAYING RIGHT NOW?
Posts
Dishonored was great, albeit a little bit on the easy side (in the last mission I took down 20 guards by just standing in a doorway and shooting anybody that came in front of me).
Now I'm on to The Last of Us. Very strong beginning (like one of the best game intros ever), and the game is fun, but I die waaaaaay too much, replaying some segments multiple times before I get them right, which gets tedious after a while, so I take a break and come and try later.
Also,
dear Clickers,
FUCK YOU.
Sincerely, the mangled corpse on the ground that you just took a bite out of.

Beat Super Mario World and tried to go back to Banjo Tooie in the hopes that I no longer see it as dumb as shit anymore. Nothing has changed, so I'm thinking about doing the same with Donkey Kong 64.
If all else fails, I'm probably going to have to go back to the Video Game Exchange at the mall or Half Price Books or someplace and buy a "new" game.

Just wait until you get to Bowser's castle...
Now I'm playing Golden Sun and replaying Chrono Cross, I'll be starting the (original) Tales of the Abyss soon...
I couldn't get through Chrono Cross. Something about the characters being huge, and me missing some small detail in the walkthrough (yes, for this game I needed a walkthrough, it's confusing) making things really hard to figure where to go next.
I got to the weird pastel color dimension that had the shapeshifting goblin guy. And back to normal reality, and I was like "what do I do now?"

Ah, yes, I was abusing the walk-through in my first play-through. Nice thing is that I beaten the game 3-4 times so the whole game is fussed into my memory... (got no life ;_;) can't name the last time I gotten through a JRPG and never had to look at a walkthrough, unless hacking in Etrian Odyssey counts. XP
@SmileWithStyle: Yeah, clickers are rough. I think all my deaths were to them for at least the first third of the game. They do get easier though (until they don't...) I knew I wouldn't be great at the game, so I went pfft, who needs pride, and just went with easy from the beginning. I still die quite a bit, but it keeps it down to just the hard segments or when I do something stupid.
Needless to say, I'm still playing The Last of Us. Finally getting a chance today to sit down and play for more than three hours at a time. And man, did I pick a good spot to actually have time to devote to it. I was so glued, I could not look away.

Oh, playing Tales of the Abyss, and it keeps sorta black screening for about 2 min after battles, until you press a button or something. In other words, it lags coming out of battle screen.
Is this a common problem, or do I have a sucky disc?

What version are you playing it on, bulmabriefs144, PS2 or 3DS?
If PS2, I always found the battles to be a bit laggy after the end of each battle. Maybe we both have faulty discs?

Well I am about to start the PS2 version of Abyss, I can confirm if it's just the disk or the engine causing the lag. But the PS2 has a fairly weak ram, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the engine.
Finished The Last of Us.
Holy. Shit.
The whole game was great, and the ending was just.... perfect.
So emotional (especially the intro, the winter time, and the ending), kinda reminded me of Nier and how awesome that game was too.
Definitely one of my favourite stories, and the "game" behind the story is no slouch either. I am very happy that I just randomly picked it up at the store without even really knowing what it's about.

Just finished Persona 4! Beat the last boss on the first try, which was a BIT unprecedented considering the previous battles in the game - not complaining though.
As for what I thought of the game, it was pretty damn good overall. Storywise, 100x more lighthearted than its predecessor but every bit as enjoyable - it just required the right mindset. I don't think there was any character this time round matching, say, Junpei's development from the last game, but they all had distinctive personalities and none were completely awful - not even Rise, who was graced with quite possibly the worst voice actress I have ever heard.
Regarding the gameplay - ugh. I thought battles would have improved with being able to fully control your own characters as opposed to assigning behaviours, but that didn't help the other issues: attacks missing far too often, slight differences in level leading to massive differences in damage dealt/received and lack of any real feeling of battling progression as the game went on.
I don't think jRPGs are usually played for cutting edge gameplay, though: I'm trying remember "pure" jRPGs (as in, not strategy/jRPG hybrids) where I geniunely enjoyed the battles and the only ones I can think of are Chrono Trigger and FFX/X-2. Also, for what it's worth fusing Personas (Personae?) was as fun as ever - I probably racked up a good couple hours doing just that.
Would I play it again? That remains to be seen - AFAIK there isn't much beyond storywise beyond the ~True~ ending and as I've made plain, the gameplay's less than enthralling. Plus, the game's a massive timesink (I clocked in 58 hours in a playthrough that felt moderately rushed) so I'm not sure if I could ever be bothered, honestly. Maybe in a couple years...
Now to do what I normally do after finishing a game and change my avatar to a P4 character. :D
EDIT: Can't decide on a character because I guess I didn't like any of them that much...maybe Yukiko because Yukiko's kawaii

Played this with my little brother on the SNES! I remember how he was always good at "Dr. Mario" while I was always better than him at "Tetris". The duel was rather fierce. But in the end, both of us didn't do as well as we used to; but I was victorious (which I was lucky because I almost completely mucked up during the Dr. Mario part when clearing all the viruses to get to Tetris Type A to REALLY get my points. Bastard set it on "HIGH Speed" with more than "30 Viruses" to ALMOST make me screw up.)
At the end of Dissidia finally. Decided to play through Chaos story with Warrior of Light. He learns no moves for a long time, methinks. I'm only level 66 and Chaos still kicks my asshole open.
So apparently I have a Nintendo fever.
Right now I'm playing -
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap - As I said before, I never liked Zelda games, never enjoyed them, couldn't stomach Ocarina of Time 3D for more than 40 minutes before I quit.... But somehow, I am enjoying this one and can actually see myself finishing it. Probably has something to do with the game being 2D (and pretty at that).
However, screw the Wind Temple, I gave up and had to look at a walkthrough...how the hell was I supposed to know I need to blow up a piece of wall that WASN'T EVEN CRACKED to get to the digging gloves. Sure the spot is between two skulls, but that didn't make it any less cryptic.
Pokemon Black 2 - I somehow thought that I NEED to play a pokemon game, even though I never finished any of them besides Red way back. I think the last I played was Emerald and SoulSilver for a while, on emulators. Not this one, bought the game and I am playing it on my 3DS. About 2 hours in, it is lots of fun, the new pokemon spice things up a lot. Have yet to meet one of those horrible pokemon designs that people seem to criticize the most about the game, but I am sure I will get there.
PS: Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup - You die...you die...you die...you die...I wonder if I can even reach some of the lower dungeon levels, my best so far is Dlvl 6 with a Dwarf fighter. Not being able to regenare health finally did me in though. Lots of different builds to go for, lots of fun.
Lately I have gotten better at finishing my games, something I am proud of, hopefully I will be able to finish some of the games from my backlog instead of going for new games all the time. Notably Valkyria Chronicles.
Etrian Odyssey 4 should release sometime in Summer here in Europe though...hmmm, at least I am never bored and always have something to play.
