I'm playing Tales of Zestiria too but I'm getting a little ticked off by the story of the game.
So... kid who's practically a mountain hermit comes down to the real world, willy-nilly nabs the role of the chosen one, and proceeds to be an expert of all the happenings of modern society.
The game barely scratches the minimum of using the PS4 when all characters don't even have animations to open doors, and objects in the distance just disappear, they don't even fade out.
The camera angles in battle are really bad too, it keeps clipping into walls.
Sorry I'm griped a lot about it the moment I read the name, but I'm really hoping someone can reassure me that my $73 purchase was worth it.
I'm playing Stella Glow on the 3DS right now too.
It's actually a decent SRPG, though battles could stand to pass faster.
Male characters are well-written, and the female characters are... tropes.

I liked the idea of Stella Glow before I realized it was pandering softcore porno bullshit from the group that made the truly awful Luminous Arc series.
Zesty is an A- game imo. The battle camera is kinda weird (which does bother me some) and the graphics aren't zomgamazing (which doesn't bother me at all). Then again, I got it for $50 on Steam so *shrug*.
Sorey is a human raised by the seraphim. The role of the Shepherd is to be a human who works with seraphim to restore order to the land. He's a fine protagonist and nothing about his pact with Lailah doesn't make sense to me? He's NOT an expert of the happenings in modern society. That's why he has Edna and Lailah and <other human(s)> along.

What was wrong with Luminous Arc besides the fact that it was more of a visual novel than an SRPG?
it's about time i tried out Devil Survivor 2
now watch me get distracted by whatever games i get for christmas and never finish it sighhhhhhhh
seriously i just had DeSu2 and Final Fantasy Tactics given to me, I've probably got at least ONE RPG coming for Christmas since... all the games i asked for are RPGs... and that's not to mention the 3 different Etrian Odyssey games i'm in the middle of, and my plans to buy the 3DS remakes of both Devil Survivors if I like this one... help i'm drowning in RPGs

it's the 80s B-movie version of an animu srpg except without any charm whatever. the battles are boring, the characters are boobs on sticks, the progression is obnoxious, and the story makes no sense whatsoever (or at least, I didn't care enough to understand). total shite.
I really want to play Devil Survivor 2.
Yeah, this was my experience as well. It could have been so, so much better.
I've been bedridden for about a week, and I've taken the time to finally start Bravely Default. I like the battle system, the characters are alright (Edea is my favorite, but that's no surprise) but the story is just kinda... eh for me so far. I'm just reaching the kingdom with the Earth Crystal and I'm wondering how much longer the game goes, seeing as this is the last major landmass in the world.

Hmm. I might need to give it another play through, but I'm scared to because I remember how excruciating it felt to go through all those cutscenes.
Yeah, after playing 2 I couldn't downgrade to 1. The battles are far too clunky for my liking. I got 3 as a present and tried it out but I think it'll work better with a controller (which is one of the reasons I bought one for myself for Christmas! Yay for self-presents!)
2 and 3 are a LOT better in all aspects.

Mostly I've been getting destroyed by giant bugs in Mushihimesama and getting destroyed by a giant robot space whale in DariusBurst: Chronicles Saviors. (But at least the music is awesome while I'm getting wrecked)
For DBCS, I'm not really happy with how the new CS mode turned out. Basically, it's a big, sprawling map of nodes, each containing a set of stages and bosses, sometimes with some odd rules or restrictions. The problem with this is, well, just imagine you're playing Super Mario World and every stage had an average of 2~4 Koopalings or some other boss fight thrown in there. Granted, in CS mode, only about 1/5 of the nodes are actually mandatory, but even still, you can get burned out on them really fast playing that mode, especially since quite a few of the game's bosses are completely static and overall just really not threatening at all.
No complaints about Mushihimesama, though. The game's damn near perfect as far as I'm concerned.
And, now that they're unwrapped, I'm playing Yoshi's Wooly World and Tales of Zippitydooda with my sister.
Wooly World is surprisingly good. In addition to being the cutest thing ever, I'm actually enjoying the controls and the way they've handled the secrets this time around. The controls are almost as fluid as SNES Yoshi's Island, and definitely a million times better than that travesty of a 3DS game I demo'd in a store once. As for the secrets, you don't have to get everything in one run anymore, so that's just fantastic, and so far I like the way they are hidden better than the SNES game. I feel like they reward a sharp eye more, and not so much just poking your nose in every random corner for arbitrary hidden clouds, but then I never tried 100%-ing Yoshi's Island so maybe it's not actually as bad as I remember on that front.
With Tales of Zarquon, well, though we've been at it for probably three hours now, we're still in tutorial/fapping about mode and haven't even had more than two party members in battle yet! So, I can't say much about it other than a) the dialogue has been pretty bleh, even by the Tales series' less-than-stellar standards, and b) holy shit this battle camera is garbage. I mean, I thought Graces was annoying in how the camera like to spin in circles when you and your co-op friend got too far apart from each other, but in this game, not only does it make no attempt to keep co-op allies on screen, it can't even be assed to keep 1st player on screen! Granted, six or more months ago when I first looked this game up on YT, I more or less expected this to be the case, but I didn't think it would happen so frequently. Doesn't help that none of the camera adjustment options seem to actually move the camera when it gets stuck on a wall or w/e.
I also played Demon's Crest (via Wii U) and accidentally took the end-game boss on early and "beat" the game in one sitting, so sometime I guess I'll start a new game and avoid that area until I find all the collectables.

i just beat tales of zestiria and i loved it. yes, the battle camera is trash in some fights.
on to lightning returns and more ffxiv!

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I am playing the PC version of Mugen Souls. The story is cute but the game is terrible. The controls are horrible, the camera is the worst I've seen in a video game since the N64 era, the environments would be vastly improved by deleting them all and simply choosing random battles from a menu, the enemies all do 0-1 damage, and the primary gameplay system is designed around playing a guessing game with your main character for a dozen turns in a row while everyone else in your party does nothing but defend and wait. Still more fun than Dragon Age 3.
I also picked back up FF14. I had quit a few months after launch and haven't played it since, except for the free weekend last year. The free weekend this year coincided with a friend I hadn't talked to telling me that he'd just picked up the game and reached my level on my server. I was pretty stoked to receive my first RETURN TO THE WAKING SANDS quest in almost two years.

So my brother gave me some steam money and I cleaned out some of my wishlist. Decided to try out a few of the games. Here's what I'm thinking so far:
King of Dragon Pass - interesting kingdom simulation with random events that pop up and have to be dealt with. It's difficult, and you have to be on your toes when enemies attack or you'll be wiped out. It's all about going on quests, making alliances, making choices during random events (like a woman and man have an affair and she gets pregnant, you can choose if she should marry the fiancée or the man she had the affair with or just leave it up to her who to choose - and your choice changes things like if she'll be in your clan or not (since is she marries the other man she'll leave your clan) or if the baby will grow up to become a productive member of the group).
It's interesting. I rather like it.
Black Closet - it's a mystery-type game where you are the head of student council in a very prestigious school and you and your cabinet have to avoid scandals by investigating issues that pop up. You have to tread carefully so that the school doesn't lose face, but there's also a traitor among your cabinet that you have to flush out. It's pretty interesting, too, and I like the characters - they're not the a-typical 'this one is sporty and this one is primadonna', though there is a bit of that. The art is pretty too.
Sheltered - a post-apocalyptic survival simulation where you are a family with a bunker and have to survive. I'm... really bad at it, even though I blame part of that on the tutorial being shit. Didn't even tell me how to go and scavenge, or that I needed to expand my bunker. That aside, it's pretty neat. You make your family, you can pick a pet and you just work at trying to keep things running, and the family alive.
Detective Grimiore - God, I love the style of this game. You're a detective checking out a murder at a swamp tourist attraction. You gather clues, put them together with things the people have said and try to find out who killed the victim. Look at how pretty this is!

Haha remember how i said i'm drowning in RPGs
guess what i didn't even know how right i was
Fire Emblem: Awakening, Jeanne D'arc, Tactic Ogre, FF: Tactics War of the Lions... SRPGs, SRPGs everywhere. Not even MENTIONING the Persona PSP port am I? And Valkyrie Profile, too... how will i play all these games there are so manyyyy

Sonic Generations:
I was excited to get this at a good price from the Steam sale. Then I played it and... it was not as good as I expected.
The physics of Classic Sonic feel awkwardly stiff, and I feel like his jump height was nerfed a bit. It made getting from platform to platform feel like an arm wrestling match. Also, not being able to roll easily makes getting hit way too likely.
Modern Sonic was better programmed by comparison, but maybe I'm too old, but he feels unwieldy and comes with overly-complicated controls. In almost every modern stage I felt like I didn't know what the hell I was doing yet somehow I was still clearing the stage. It's nuts, but does have some entertainment value.
Despite this, the game kind of grew on me the more I went along. I like how even the 3D stages have non-linear level design and the fanservice of it all kept me entertained. Too bad it's kind of short and the final boss was a confusing mess.

I'm 5+ hours in to Tales of Zestirithingy and... I'm not sure if I like it or not.
I like the battles, but I hate how they just kept adding more and more and more and more shit on. Like, it's basically a fast-paced action battle system and you want me to remember bullshit like 'press this to do this when you do this' and 'elemental shit does this with this but only when this is in use' and fuuuuuuck. I hate it. Every battle is like 'oh, and you can do this too!!!' and I finally got one that basically said 'if enemies are too hard you might need to level BUT YOU MIGHT ALREADY HAVE THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO BEAT THE ENEMY JUST LOOK THROUGH THE 100s of pages worth of info we already gave you because we don't fucking know how to design a simple battle system ffs'.
Seriously, I'm just treating it like a Tekken game with elemental affinities because I cannot literally be fucked to learn all the stupid shit they just slapped on for whatever reason. What bullshit. :/
Love (sarcasm) that the first alternate costume (DLC stuff) you get for the main female character is basically all bare skin with strips for a top and bottom. Meanwhile, main character gets a fucking military prince outfit instead. Ugh.
I think the maps are a little bit too big or you don't cover enough ground fast enough - there's some scale issue there that is annoying for exploration, especially when treasure and the like can't be seen easily.
Character and story-wise... I dig it. It seems like it'll be a cool romp through a journey to save the land. I can enjoy that and the characters so far aren't grating or awful or anything. I love the little water lad and the princess is great, bar that short skirt (do the people designing this shit know how annoying it is to run around in a short skirt like that? you gotta pull that shit down every time you move faster than a walk. srsly)
Graphically... is aight. I like that you can edit where the extra stuff is placed on you, but I wish there were less silly options (dolls? seriously? >.> ) and more personalisation options for things like hair, clothes, etc. I currently have everyone in my party rocking a butterfly because we are now known as the butterfly league after that small cutscene with the pretty butterfly. ^.^
Honestly, not sure it's worth the money I spent on it yet, but it's okay, I guess. Maybe. I still think the battle system needs KISS to be applied to it. :/
Same with some of the menu options. Dear fucking lord, I don't understand half the stuff to do with spells. I just slap 'em on and say 'yeah, fine, go'. And don't get me started on the equipment. I love the idea of forging bits together to make them stronger, but whoever thought it was a good idea to add scrolling text for the descriptions should be shot. Seriously, I ain't got time to read that shit. Just put it as a quick fucking note '-15% wait for Item use' is all that needs saying, for the sake of fuck. Not 'Takes 15% less wait time between Item uses.' or whatever the hell they have. Or have it all in the box and let you scroll down the text if need fucking be (or how about design the fucking box to be a bit bigger? FFS).
And skills on equipment is all fine and dandy but I don't know what half those symbols mean or what they're doing and it's ughhhh.
It's like an RM game, really. Babby's first RPG, except they had a huge budget to use. They just crammed system after system in and said "I WANT IT LIKE THIS AND THIS AND PUT THIS IN AND ADD THIS AND OMG THIS TOO" and it's so fucking stupid! That is not how you make fucking games! Ever heard of restraint?!
orz
Sorry, I was looking forward to a great game and am pretty underwhelmed by the fucking systems. Pisses me off the more I write about it. I should stop writing.
Actually, I need to play Okami (an actually wonderfully designed game without the frilly lace trappings and bullshit) to calm down.
