Those of you dissing Twilight wished you could have pulled something like that off. I know I do.
No way... mostly I'm just sore because so many better novelists get overlooked and this trashy crap is what's selling. Just to name a few much better novels in the teen fantasy genre: Basically anything by Tamora Pierce, anything by Ursula K. LeGuin, the Abhorson Trilogy by Garth Nix. Especially in the case of the Pierce novels, these amazing works have an intelligent, independent, strong, badass female character that girls can look up to, as opposed to the wishy-washy, subservient joke that is Bella Swan.
Twilight teaches girls that it's awesome when creepy older men watch you as you slumber, and that the best girls are those who do exactly what their men say. While I have no problems with a consensual BDSM lifestyle, I don't think that's what Stephenie Meyer is propagating here...

Honestly now, I'm not a Halo fan and still admit it had its good points, but it didn't "invent" very much.
First-person shooters have been around for a long time, and the modern type have been around since, as Harmonic said, sometime around Wolfenstein 3D. And what about Doom?
Unreal? Quake? Their sequels and spinoffs?
How about Goldeneye: 007 and Perfect Dark? Those were great games, and really helped popularize the console FPS.
And what about the ones that aren't quite straight FPS, but still have the basic elements, like Deus Ex and the System Shock series?
You're leaving out an awful lot of gaming history here, and I'm not getting pedantic and going into some rant about the actual pre-Id Software roots of FPSes (which go back to the '70s), because obviously we're just talking about the genre as it matured. But seriously. Come on.
