ANIME - YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE
Posts
While I get the feeling a lot of people on this site have a general disdain for anime, for various reasons, I just happen to love it. Without realizing it at the time, half of my childhood was spent watching anime, or something derived from it. Eventually the style became nostalgic and so I garnered a bit of a specialized appreciation for it's style, content, characters, and plots.
I suppose I have the greatest affection for fantasy/sci-fi programs (slayers, scrapped princess, etc) - which almost certainly was derived from my love of rpgs that almost always involve a mishmash of both. I also tend to enjoy mind screw animes - (paranoia agent, evangelion (or at least the movies, don't hate me), etc.) and animes that are more style than substance - i'm looking at you, FLCL.
Though the greatest ever shall always remain the english dub of Samurai Pizza Cats.
So, do you share in my guilty pleasure? What anime can you watch over and over and enjoy?

Sure I share your guilty pleasure.
I'm more of a bishies type of person. I'll watch any anime as long as the style's nice and there's cool guys in it. Oh, except for Angel's Feather, cause it sucks. In fact, I just might suffer from fangirl syndrome.
I rather like animes like Kuroshitsuji, Pandora Hearts, Death Note, Reborn and Lucky Star.

I don't watch anime and do not care for anime or manga.
Also, how is it a guilty pleasure? Tons of people honestly like anime, even people who aren't scary (cos-players).

Pokemon was great until they replaced Brock with that guy with a girl's name. I lost all my drive to continue watching after that fateful day..

I've been meaning to watch gurren lagann. Is it as awesome as everyone says?
It's a pretty dang cool show. I guess you could say it takes what people expect from a giant mecha anime, over exaggerates it, then throws in (what I consider) a pretty original story, and, wow.
It's really a spectacle in my books.

Sounds good. I'll look into it.
I can't stand anime anymore, for whatever reason. Like, I've tried watching Cowboy Bebop and Big O, even finished the entirety of A Tale of Memories, but I can't get into them. They're interesting, Big O especially, and I can see why someone would like them, but there's no drive to watch them on a regular basis one might encounter in shows like, say, Six Feet Under or Twin Peaks. Still enjoy the movies though, especially Makoto Shinkai and Studio Ghibli films.
My favorite animus used to be DNAngel and Escaflowne, mangus used to be DNAngel, anything Clamp, and Fruits Basket. They're all boxed up in my basement now. It's just not the same.
Oh, my brother says Gurren Lagann is the BEST ANIMU EVER.

This is one of my favorite episodes.
I watched the first episode of Gurren Lagann. It didn't really interest me.
I never watched that much anime because yeah, the majority of it is really embarrassing to me. I can tolerate stuff like Death Note or Monster though. Trigun also rules. Been meaning to watch Cowboy Bebop for a while.

I watched the Cowboy Bebop movie a while ago and it sucked so I probably won't watch the anime. I've been meaning to check out Gurren Lagann and Trigun though.
I used to watch a lot of anime, but the amount has grown smaller and smaller recently.
It's pretty hard thing to hunt for the "rare good animes", by which I mean the well directed series, which don't fall in being bland and naive as the rest 95% of the series.
I'm somewhat guilty of watching some shonen series too, such as Naruto and Bleach, which actually manage to be cool in their first seasons, but then become repeative, bland and generally shitty - and when I noticed they're rip-offs from old, way better series such as Hunter X Hunter for example.
Other than that I pretty much prefer series that fall in the "novel category" of anime series. Series as Twelve Kingdoms, Scrapped Princess, etc. They seem to have more depth to them. Also, Berserk is absolutely my all time favorite. Not because the blood and violence, though I must admit that in certain episodes the violence is very well presented. But anyway, mainly Berserk is my favorite because its great characters, many references in philosophical and psychological way. I just enjoy great script that provokes thoughts.
Mushishi did it pretty well, too.
As for series I've seen or like... If you really care, check here.
But yeah I've had hard time finding those great series lately. Though TTGL was pretty awesome, and now one of my favorites, too.

I am in this boat, thus I rarely watch anime nowadays. I tried picking up like 4 newly recommended series' last summer and ended up watching some old one I sorta saw way back.
Mushishi
Probably the best animu series ever.
