THE FINAL FANTASY XIII TOPIC
Posts
For anyone who is interested, the first 40 or so minutes of gameplay from the english Xbox 360 version of the game is posted here:

The voice acting is rather decent.
EDIT: Actually it seems it's just a few ten minute clips from different parts of Chapter One.

The voice acting is fine indeed, but...for some reason, it seems...less visually stunning to me than what I expected. Maybe it's the low resolution, but I'm pretty sure, that the pink haired girl's (Vanille was her name I think) armband actually looked rather...boxy. Okay, maybe I'm a bit too critical...
Still, I hope the PS3 version really is better looking...

I'm not one to watch the first 40minutes of a game that comes out in just a weeks time. Kinda ruins it really.

Well...the games is 60 hours long if I remember correctly, so what's 40 minutes (of course, the first steps are very important, but nevertheless, you usually won't fing out anything too important in a FF's first hour)? I only watched the first 10 minutes by the way, because I was rather interested in the paradigm shift battle system (and there is a tutorial for that in there...). It's interesting, but...well let's hope it gets even more interesting later on.

PC running Xbox360? I never knew there was an Xbox360 emulator...and I thought it was nigh impossible to make any X360 game run at this speed on a PC, especially with an emulator in it's early development and with little optimalization. It's not like I don't beleive you, but where did you hear this?
Off:
(delete this if it's venturing too deep into the dark side...sorry!)
By the way, I'm amazed yet again. It's not even out and there is alredy a supposedly working release of the game. As far as I know, it was didn't work after all and so it was nuked. It seems it's becoming harder and harder for the people of the "scene" to hack every game before release. I wonder though if this is truly because the DRM, or something else...

Ah, I see, thanks. SE seems to be a little weak when it comes to fast reactions to potential PR disasters. They've had such issues before, but never with the teasers and such...those were very professional.
Well nevermind, only a few days away now...

This wasn't forced AT ALL. Especially the last bit, the monologue about Lightning doing her thing? Now I'm sure Leona Lewis likes FF XIII as much as I like her nauseatingly cheesy songs in it. I mean, the japanese theme song was a bit annoying, but this? Ugh! And I probably won't be able to chose between the two since adding the damn japanese audio to the blu-ray was too much of a hassle it seems...
And why is it always an Xbox360 controller? It's just not fair! :D

I played this for two hours earlier today on a modded XBox 360.
The game might be good 20 hours into it. I went into the game knowing absolutely nothing about its story or characters. After two hours, the story makes absolutely no sense at all. The battle system is fast and could be good later once you actually have some abilities. It feels very overproduced. The graphics are pretty good, and I had to pay more attention than normal to tell when a prerendered cutscene started (hint: compression artifacts).
Lightning and Sazh are the coolest characters so far. Hope and Vanille should die in a horrible fire of cheeriness and sappy bullshit. Snow is very blah and dresses stupidly. If you look closely, it seems like he is wearing a lace corset on his chest. Also the symbol on the back of his jacket is the manifestation of his weapon, so it changes when you change your weapon.
I might end up with a copy of it but I am not exactly frothing at the mouth for it. It seemed like the story might be cool later on, but the dialogue was mostly garbage. It felt like there might be a cool story in there somewhere!

I'm actually grateful to all the moaning about this game that have made me skeptical and afraid it's not going to be too good, because all that set my expectations lower.
I've played about for few hours and so far few of the characters have come across annoying first and the battle mechanics unlock a bit slow if you ask me, but while playing further, it just keeps getting better. Even though all the characters have their annyoing traits, they only make them different and in the end they play off well together; while Snow is annoying for all big talk and blunt statements, Lightning who's more on the quiet side brings it out well with her remarks. Sazh is in similar way also a very cool character.
What I'm saying is that while a few of the characters may seem annoying first, some characters work as their counterpart characters and make understanding each character easier. It creates a contrast for the whole whole cast a gives it a nice depth and make every character an understandable personality of their own, instead of them all being bland, blank characters with no emotions whatsoever.
I've played a bit past the point where you find out what happens to Serah, and at this point most of the game systems have been introduced and the game shows great potential. Now I am only wishing it won't let me down. But even this far into the game, there has been no question of it not being worth the time and money. Once you get past the tutorial parts where a very little of the game makes any sense at all, either in terms of story or the gameplay, it starts to look very promising.

Plan to buy this and let it sit until I beat Mass Effect 2 because that game went from 'Miranda
' to 'holy shit the Xchaggers became huge (and evil!)
'
I'll play it when I can endure 25 hours to get to the 'good' part. Until then

There is no story. Well, there is, but I can't follow it.
I thought it was interesting how you think Hope is a bad character and Lightning is cool, though. Maybe it's because I've already gotten to the part where the game opens up so I know the story, but Hope is one of my favorite characters. Lightning, to me, isn't a very interesting character. She's a very run of the mill type hero compared to Hope. I guess she's supposed to be 'cool', but they could have done more with her. Now that I think about it, none of the female characters are that good compared to the male ones (mainly Sazh and Hope). Vanille is =x.
Haven't beaten it yet so who knows, it could change. The battle system is fantastic, probably the best out of them all. It gets insane later on.

You should check the Datalog events. Every chapter of the story is recorded there. I've had to check it a few times to confirm stuff.
So far my impression...
Vanille reminds me of some female Sniper from TF2... (don't ask.)
Sazh is already hitting as my favorite character.
Whenever I think Snow, I think Yuri from ToV, probably because he was voiced by the same guy. Ha ha.
I do get a kick whenever Lightning punches Snow though, amusin' to say the least.
The battle system isn't bad, I wish you could control all the characters in battle though. >_>;

Just got it last night. It does carry on some things from FF12, for what it's worth (I won't spoil it). But the battle system is entirely different.
I do like how it opens up as you go, and starts out fairly easy and then gets harder. Protect your leader... or else.

I don't know about these new RPGs. To a guy that hasn't played one in earnest since FF7, these new FFs seems like dauntingly steep learning curves, and I usually just won't bother. I miss the good ol' days when all you had to do was select FIGHT, SPELL, ITEM, or RUN from a menu. *spits into a spittoon*
Same applies for new FPSs, and fighting games. Do you guys remember when you only had two buttons? A and B?
