A shame it was attached to such a mediocre game, in the last case. I also like FF6, FF7 (although I am sick of it thanks to RPG Maker games), FFT, and Vagrant Story soundtracks.

I play many more RPGs than I do other genres (well, platformers come as a very close second :P), and most of my favorites have already been listed here. However, I would like to point your attention to Lufia 2 and Terranigma for a moment:
Lufia 2 probably has one of the most...emotional, ending themes that I have ever listened to (especially if you know the context behind it). :(

Just remembered another game with a soundtrack that can go Joint 1st with Persona 3 and 4, The World Ends With You. Not playing it for a while made me forget how awesome it's sound track is, spec Transformation and Three Minutes Clapping, the english-only tracks.
