Cmon guys... FireFox isn't THAT bad.
rofl, I see no problem with it whatsoever.
But I guess people can really nerdgasm over a browser, huh.
Please do not use a strawman argument when it comes to updating Flash. Let's move on until you might want to try using a real argument. In stating my qualms with Google Updater, let me make clear again that I'm not arguing about the idea of updating software itself, but rather the nature of Google Updater and its questionable methods and ethics.
I realize the usefulness of silent, automatic updates; they're great ways to circumvent novice computer users and get them to update. The problem is that I, personally, find such activities for the most part unacceptable. Even worse, I find entirely disdainful the idea that an updater has the arrogance to go off modifying software which it has no relation to without my permission or request for approval.
There is no room for compromise here: I cannot agree at all with what Google Updater does and consequently I do not want it anywhere near my computer. I am the one ultimately in charge of this computer, I am the administrator. Any software that does things I disagree with without my prior knowledge or permission can pack up and leave.
Overall this discussion has been great, but I don't think we'll be finding any common ground upon which we can mutually agree upon to close this discussion. I thus propose we simply agree to disagree since neither of us seem to be willing to back down as to the validity/invalidity of Google Updater.
Google Update does not install a Windows service. It hasn't for years. I distinctly remember telling you this a while back. It moved to tasks entirely years back. You have to understand that the last time I installed Google Updater (inadvertantly) was, I believe, somewhere around 2~3 years ago. I've since gotten rid of it and I have not had any interaction with anything pertaining to Google Updater to this day.
If Google Updater has removed the Windows service aspect, then that is great news and I apologize for my outdated accusation regarding it.
And why would you want it to use more RAM? Because it is modern PC software design and it works fantastic. You have a giant pool of resources you can use (RAM) to drastically improve the performance of your program. Did you ever wonder why Chrome is the absolute fastest browser? It uses that RAM to hold on to things that you might need. The V8 JavaScript also holds onto numerous code paths and compilations to speed up JS.I welcome Chrome's usage of RAM to bolster its performance of JavaScript and plugins like Flash assuming it's being done efficiently and absolutely required. The speed is one of Chrome's selling points and I find it useful in many ways.
However, you've yet to convince me as to why heavy-weight software are necessarily better. Better performance doesn't necessarily require more system resources to consume and more system resources consumed doesn't necessarily equate to better performance; software like Media Player Classic and µTorrent come to mind for the former and RPG Maker VX/XP immediately comes to mind for the latter.
I do concede, though, that while the ideal software has been and always will be light and efficient, the upper limit of the definition of "light" continues to slowly grow as computer hardware keeps advancing. What is "heavy" today just might be "light" tomorrow.
If it wasn't for the plugins such as Rikaichan I would've transferred to Chrome. But yes Firefox isn't THAT bad x_X

wow! I can't wait for Google to fix that last tab bug so that I can start using Chrome!
(Also, for symantec/google to fix that bug with Symantec Endpoint incompatibility - because right now I can't use Chrome (see earlier in this topic))
...but I will miss all the conveniences that Opera provides out of the box.... Like IRC, and ReloadEvery and Speeddial...
I did do some light research on browser speeds, and generally it seems like Chrome, Opera and Safari are pretty much the same speed, with IE9 and Firefox a little behind.

KA, my examples of RAM usage in Chrome is pretty specific to browsers, not all software. You can heavily optimize the web experience by using more RAM. That doesn't mean it will be the same for all types of software and that was never my argument anyway. Chrome uses more RAM for a reason. Photoshop using RAM is also for a reason (large image editing is heavy) but sucks in many ways anyway.
Also for game programming, you want to use as much RAM as you can to make things easy for you. In RM's case, you want to load up that whole database into RAM. Hitting the disk will chunk the computer.
This doesn't mean you should just suck up RAM because you can. And also a lot of programs that eat up RAM have memory leaks.
Anyway whatever, everyone should use Chrome, but Firefox is acceptable. IE9 is also looking to be decent and currently has a lot of graphical firepower behind it.
Don't use Safari.

You're right that you didn't mention Windows Updates. I misread where you said Windows services. My bad.

Disk is slow. RAM is really fast. You cannot deliver the same kind of performance by using the bare minimum resources to function. The web doesn't work like that.
You ain't whistling dixie.
I downloaded Google Chrome(Ages ago) didnt like it
I have tryed Firefox...Not going there
so i am trying Opera

author=Archeia_Nessiahchrome has rikaikun, a port of rikaichan. a huge proportion of firefox's plugins have been ported to chrome with great success
