REWARDS FOR GOOD BLOG POST.
Posts
I don't know if this has been addressed yet. I would like to hear feedback about it in general. I think it would be cool to reward users (somehow) for writing interesting, relevant to game design, pictures, diagrams, sketches, etc. You know, real interesting stuff regarding their projects. You go on the front page and just see rows of "brb wow" "i am eating" "vote 4 favorite dadchar" and the list goes on.
I mean, I've poked fun at the whole one liner blogs myself, because I thought it was kind of funny at first. I realize that the blog feature is open to anyone to post anything about their game. WIP has said many times he wants people to have a level of freedom with blogs. That's great too. But, it's sort of tainting the main page with all this useless "gibba jabba".
I don't know, maybe it's because I see really interesting blogs kicked off by a row of "brb dorito run" and so on and so forth. Maybe it's just me who feels like interesting with real meat in them blog posts deserve some kind of reward.
I am not trying to be rude, so I'm sorry if this post sounds that way! I apologize for being concerned with your interwebs!

I don't disagree, but if someone has something thoughtful to say about game design, why not make it a forum thread instead of a blog post? Then it's more visible and encourages discussion.
Well, I understand that too. But unfortunately, the forum and main page are disconnected, despite what people think. I myself would rather post relevant things about game design in a blog vs the forum because not only do I get to promote my project I can generate discussion at the same time.
I think the only "reward" system rmn has is makerscore, which is pretty much just for aesthetics and worthless and dumb and stupid, much like my posting. would you suggest something different? interesting blog posts now appear in rainbow blink text? ye.s...
the second problem comes up with deciding what is interesting enough to merit a reward. now, I think I and a fair amount of other people know what is objectively cool/interesting/fun for my grandma but what happens when people say "my blog post is very interesting and no reward??" what will magi do then

or perhaps the blogging privileges of those who do not make funtime blog updates can be removed...yes...prepare to meet your maker breath of fire 2 remake
Hate to be negative, but do we really need a system to reward the same 4 or 5 people over and over again for posting art?
I've seen a lot of blogs with pretty good information and sharing that no one posts in, yet blog about a piece of game art and boom the floodgates open.
We don't need really need to reward people for sharing, we need to be more involved in what they're already sharing.

I don't think it's totally useless. Makerscore gives you more locker space for files. Which could be kind of important! Ciel suggested some kind of voting system where you can vote up relevant blogs to keep them circulating for a while.
I realize it's a slippery slope, but I just hope people aren't discouraged from writing very detailed entries because it is being kicked off by 5 blogs titles "i am on grampsfan.com"
I just tell myself WWMD what-would-mog-do

I am inclined to agree. It is kind of sad brilliant blog posts like these: http://rpgmaker.net/games/471/blog/4177/
do not even last a day on the front page, bumped down by "Going on hiatus...", "Stay tuned for an important battle stat announcement!" and "Title change coming soon!" Another example of that is YDS' lengthy The Long Goodbye blog posts that also get pushed down within mere hours to accommodate two-sentence trivial updates.
But what can you do, really? "Blogpost of the Week"? lol I don't really know what "reward" will be a proper incentive to post substantial blog posts. I've always enjoyed the ones that contain some deep insight about the game, screenshots, artwork or videos.. But we can't expect them all to have that.

Say what?
EDIT: Yes, I'm serious. I think you're simply exaggerating the problem (assuming it exists).

The blog page is not the front page.

The front page is simply listing the latest 5 from the blogs page. I linked the blogs page to illustrate the fact that things aren't as horrifying as TFT made it out to be.
author=KingArthurYes, I am quite wrong, the problem is certainly that- nowaitauthor=Abdel McCrackThe front page is simply listing the latest 5 from the blogs page. I'm guessing you don't quite get it, most blogs are things like that: http://rpgmaker.net/games/2842/blog/4294/
The blog's page existence does not change that, as it means most blog posts are that sort of content, which is to say; barely any content. Who will want to check them out if most of them are just that?

idk, it's one part people needing to learn to post meaningful content and one part changing site functionality to make content the people like more visible
some people get defensive when criticized for poor quality blogging but need to understand posting completely trivial blog updates won't really do anything for you but exhaust your fanbase. when and if you finally do post something of consequence nobody will click it because they have been burned 500 times in the past by ten word blog posts 'announcing new announcement soon keep your cyberspace browsers at the ready'.
it's kind of a huge problem because it's really discouraging for people who want to post really thoughtful and well done content. it will just be pushed into oblivion instantly by meaningless fluff

I am sorry but putting a game on hiatus might be considered a pretty valid update to post

I am pretty sure I would want to hear about it if a project I was interested in was being cancelled, put on hiatus or otherwise changed in production status

The blog post is concerning the development of a game, not "brb" or "eating doritos", I personally don't see a problem there.
