This is looking a little bland. Any tips? :D

Mr_D I like it, but using the same roof for library, hospital and metro is a little strange :P.
its not an underground metro right?

Populate it with plenty of interactable NPCs. Trains stations are busy places.
Populate it with interactible objects. Not enough RPGs do this.

Those vending machines, should sell items.

The gates should require money every time you pass one way.

The trains should take you to another area, if you get in them, and have a animated scene do so. And make a pshish sound when opening and closing.

Then, populate it with characters, which come and go.

And stop being such a hottie, Mr Detective.

Doing some groundwork for a future game. You can select the options with either your keyboard or your mouse. It might have an adventure/RPG element to it as well, we'll see.
You could probably make that map half the size (and should).
I'm basically messing around. I want to add a sunbeam type effect to this map to show that it's seeping through and that's how the trees grow. This doesn't belong to a project, but is basically mapping practice/fun.

@Kentz Reduce the size and add more detail. Right now it looks really bland.

@StrawberryFlower Neat! The mushrooms look very stilish, although they don't really mesh well with the RTP.
Unfortunately, I can't find any large mushrooms that do. D=

*cries*
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

@StrawberryFlower: If you give them shadows, they'll look pretty much fine, IMO. And that's really easy to do. Some of them already have shadows, and look fine...

@Kentz: A good start, but it has a lot of open, empty space. Condensing it would be the simplest way to fix that, like SnowOwl suggested. You could also fill in some of the space with more interesting stuff. I'd recommend doing both of the above.

The farmland at the south end is extremely questionable. However, it would be fine if it were beyond the edge of the traversable map. Personally, I would add a permanently closed gate where that opening in the fence is, so it seems like there is farmland right outside of the town, but the player isn't prompted to go explore it. Because if you make it accessible, that's a cue telling the player there's a reason to go there. But it's way too big and empty and flat and pointlessless for you to actually want the player to go there. Closed gate solves the problem.

@Mr_Detective: I like the map and actually think it has plenty of stuff; the only thing it's missing is people. Since this is a subway station there should probably be 50+ people crowded onto this map, walking around. It makes perfect sense for the floor to be mostly empty since they need lots of space for all the people. You could add some trash and stains on the floor though.

One thing that's wrong is the guardrail. Not only is the vertical one completely different from the horizontal one (metal instead of wood, round instead of flat-topped, and twice as big) but the leftmost vertical rail is suspended in midair with no ground below it!
NPCs are going to be a little problem, so I'll see what I can do.

The left vertical rail seems like that due to tiles issue. I used event tiles to fix it:

How's that? :P

1. In a normal game, that 'd work. XD
2. The main character gets a free pass from the police department. :D
3. Ah yeah, there is something like that. ;)
4. Putting in more NPCs is kinda tough, but I'll try. :-?
5. Negative, no can do. :P

Why can't you just toss in like 40 NPCs? Assuming you already have a bunch of generic sprites, it shouldn't take more than like 15 seconds for ones that are standing still and a minute or two for ones that move along a set path. Adding NPC events that the player can't talk to is one of the easiest things you can do in RPG Maker.
You could also have some sort of cycle where like 5 sets of people enter/leave the subway. As they all leave, you move to the next set of the cycle. If you try to talk to them, they might grunt, and push you out of the way.

Holy crap, those are nice mushrooms.

I did a sound update, so this now has music and voice.

When your evil half is saying "I don't think you should do this" it's usually time to listen.
All of my NPCs have a faceset, not just some random sprites. Giving them meaningful dialogue is another headache as well. :P I can't just toss in some random NPCs without a faceset and the player can't even talk to.

And by the way, to the screenshot above me, that font needs to go. :|

Yes. Yes you can.

If they can't be talked to, then they don't need a face.

in my opinion npcs that you can't talk to add a lot to the scene and to the setting itself. it shows that there are more people living there than the ones you can talk to. also not everyone you meet is willing to talk to a complete stranger

looking any better? decided to throw in some forest and water
there are some missing tree bits in there cause the tileset doesn't fit, had to use events
