By the way, for those who know the play, I haven't entirely figured on how to handle all the incest, but I'd like to avoid it as much as possible - I'd be open to suggestions, but my current draft dodges it in a fairly subtle manner.
To say that this didn't cross my mind would be a lie, but in this story it isn't like it's the "evil" characters that are of incest, but the "good" characters. It works in Game of Thrones because it is intended for viewers to not like Jamie and the queen (I forgot her name).
Besides, I've already had enough Game of Thrones influence on the game and am probably crossing a few lines as a result that a game that looks like a 16-bit SNES RPG shouldn't cross as a result. So I'm trying to skip the incest, but you can expect lines of men "skewering women with their swords" so to speak.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

you could go all awkward ecchi anime, have them repeatedly accidentally get in perverted situations and they're both really embarassed by it but they're also both secretly wondering why they're so into it, then after they find out that she's actually his cousin/stepsister/adopted sister and they're not blood siblings she starts coming onto him, and he keeps resisting her increasingly forward advanced but you can tell he's totally into it and he just doesn't want to have to explain it to everyone else, and then in the process of attempting to avoid the incest he accidentally accumulates a small harem including his tsundere next-door neighbor, the class president, and a random loli, and all of them repeatedly get mad at each-other for doing perverted things with him, but inexplicably always attack him instead of each-other, and he remains bizarrely chaste for three seasons before the show is cancelled

But yeah, I think the best way to go about it is just to make them not actually related somehow.

It depends on the society of the game. You make it sound like it's not a big deal within that society, so frankly, it shouldn't be presented as a big deal to the players. You don't need to flaunt it, but think of real life relationships and how they come out. People don't tell strangers about their mistresses, but close friends might know and ask how such and such is. Enemies may make snide comments like "How's you sister keeping?" or "Where's your pretty sister, eh? Found someone else's bed to warm?" People who are around the character a lot - in this case guards and soldiers - might make comment about it from time to time. Just small comments here and there to paint a picture. Maybe a small scene of her making breakfast in the morning, or staying close to his side when there's danger. Perhaps show closeness in tender moments like if she's hurt, he being the one to patch her up or get annoyed when men hit on her. Little things that don't exactly spell it out, but are clues that show it's there.

The two cases of incest in Wagner's play, the neither of the participants really know initially and in one of the cases it's not so much brother-sister but great-aunt and nephew.
I'll take it into consideration if I deem that I could somehow pull off something that goes over on the player (some sort of dramatic effect I guess) but otherwise if it seems like it isn't worth the promotion, I probably won't do it. There's a good chance I may go ahead and roll with it in one of the circumstances and just avoid it's mention in the other.

@Dreaded: Great-aunt/great-nephew is probably the worse of the two incest stories since it's got the geriatric thing alongside the incest thing. As if either one of those two things weren't bad enough on its own.
@thatbennyguy: All the sepia tiles make the map look weirdly monotone. It's kind of bizarre that 90% of the house is the same exact shade of tan. If you're gonna go that route I would almost just remove the blue and green so that the only colored things are the characters.

Arandomgamemaker- There's a few things really bothering me about this screenshot.
- Appears to be redrawn or edited down RTP (if you're going to take the time to do that maybe just make custom tiles?)
- The system skin (clashing super smoothness with hard pixel edges) and Orange text irk me
- The trees look like cardboard cut outs. Like paper mario trees or something. I think that thin highlight on the one edge gives it this effect (paired with total flatness of the leaf area. If you insist on using this style, maybe study how the rtp lit the tree tops and try to recreate that or whatever youd id with the grass/pavement

Alternately you could just run with the cardboard cutout thing and do the entire game like Paper Mario
I wasn't too bothered by the trees. But... the biggest offender was that windowskin. That gradient of the windowskin does not fit the aesthetic of the game at all. That said, the retro style of the game makes me a little happy inside. Good work, arandomgamemaker.

Don't avoid it. It's an important part of the play and the mythology it is based on.

Dragol what do you think of this? I kind of like the idea of using a picture overtop the smoke overlay for the negative space roof tile. I just think it makes it look more INSIDEY and less IN YOUR FACE with the obvious oiverlay. just a thought though.
also maybe shorten the smoke trails a little bit? they seem taller than the suggested room height.

Updated it based on you guy's feedback. Is it any better?
I think that the windowskin honestly needs to change to something less. It looks too default. It clashes with the style of the tiles. So does the font. Buddy's face is nice though.
