THE SCREENSHOT TOPIC RETURNS

TungermanU- I took a screenshot out of the editor, so the event layer didn't show up. I promise that it all makes sense in context. But more importantly, thank you and thanks to Blindmind for the kind words. Good show all around, sirs!
I've been fiddling with these tiles pretty much forever at this point (or at least since 2012). Most of the stuff here is from FF3, with a few tiles from FF2. The huts are from Zoda's Revenge, and there are bits and pieces from a few different Dragon Quest games and some other random NES games. And, I should mention, if Commissar Thule is still out there anywhere I've taken a few ideas and edits from some of the maps he's posted for a similar projects, so words up, Comrade! I now have a version of this tileset for Rm2k3, Vx Ace, and Wolfcoder's rapidly developing 20XX. If anyone is interested to mess around with these tiles (and there's a lot more you can do than just what you see here) I've be happy to share anything I have, so just let me know! Since this project will forever be a slow burner type of deal for me, I'd actually encourage it.

author=ItajuSorry for this blur it's the engine I'm testing my graphics which is currently in development (will get rid of that effect eventually)
Enemies and heroes are animated.
I have a question for you guys without giving too much away:
If this would be the graphic style of some run time package: would you prefer it over the Ace or XP RTP and use it to create your own games? Do you think other people would use it?
I'd use it and I'm sure others would, too. It looks amazing :D
Hi I changed the carpets I did not know what type of floor to go with but I thought this kinda looked good with carpets :)

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Is that really a solid black screenshot with a stone door in the middle, or does my screen suck?

No, there is actually a map. Now im concerned that some people will not be able to see anything though. D:

I can see the map, it looks good but it is an issue if only some can see it. :)

I was looking at it from my phone, so it's probably only a problem if it's a cell phone game, ignore me if it's for windows. It's why I asked instead of just saying it was too dark.

Looks good on monitor! :D I always loved the grittiness of those tiles. I wish I understood RPGSS so I could get my lighting this smooth lmao.
author=ItajuI'd use anything over RTP, frankly.Sorry for this blur it's the engine I'm testing my graphics which is currently in development (will get rid of that effect eventually)

RTP's style is one I really find insufferable, whether it's the purplish shadows, the pretentious linework or something else, I feel like it's a style designed to be a middle ground between the western cartoons and eastern anime, which... I dunno go one way or the other in my view, but yes... heck if I wasn't fairly decent at art and didn't have employees to do tilesets for me I'd PAY to have RPG Maker look like that.
But yes, you should definitely release these as an SDK or however, heck, you could probably even charge a bit for em, up to you!
As for me, I've been working on making dialogue more reliant on subtext, show don't tell is what my bro said to do, so I'm gonna take that advice pretty well. I'm also doing my best to make each character fairly unique in the way they present information. Mostly they are gonna keep their emotions to themselves, too. How they feel about things is something I'll mostly leave to the player to discern.
Oh, Screenshots, right!

Don't get me started on people hating on the RTP.
Why not? It looks really blocky and the characters look like bigheaded retarded dwarfs.
Am I the only one who likes most of it just as well? As long as it's put together well Although I do prefer older RPG maker versions

Doing a performance stress test on Vita. I managed to get four 25,000 poly skinned characters animating and the framerate is still glassy-smooth. Seems I'll have to do a lot less optimization than I was expecting.

Also, more screenshots! ^_^

I love you GIMP "Line Nova" tool.
And then, my work is outshown by one of my artists.

I neither like or hate the RTP, but it bothers me that people use it interchangeably with almost every different type of game genre. The RTP's style communicates a cute, happy-go-lucky fantasy adventure, not an adult-oriented horror or a hard-medieval drama.
author=Ratty524I don't mind the tilesets or weird chibi sprites all that much, it's the facesets that annoy me excessively.

To keep this on topic.

*Slosh*
Lack of order or context makes this more funny and suggestive than it actually is.

Itaju, I definitely love your graphics, and obviously the outdoor sections look vastly more natural then the VX RTP. I'm not saying I would actually use them, though. If I were going to make a 16-bit game, it would be because it was a fangame of a real SNES game. Otherwise I would personally use higher resolution, higher color depth graphics. (No hate for low res, just personal preference. Any graphics set I use as a base will get vastly added to as I make my game, so I choose graphics I'm comfortable with adding to.)
RPG Maker can handle higher resolution graphics more easily anyway. It can handle 16-bit stuff, but it's sort of a pain. If I'm trying to make a game look 16-bit, it likes to fuck up my fonts and force me to use picture fonts. Wanting everything to look 16-bit also means I can't resize anything in-engine, which primarily makes it way more time consuming to create spell animations because I can't cheat.
If your graphics pack came with its own spell animations, that would be enough to make me not care about my fucked up font rendering. Actually, if your graphics pack came with its own spell animations, I'd use the spell animations in my current 32-bit project! They'd be half the normal size, but that's fine since I have small enemies and I have to shrink all the animations I download to 50% size or smaller anyway.

I see the RTP as a good starting point for new developers to mess around with.
It challenges us to be creative and try new things like editing to get just what you want. I also disagree that the RTP can not be used for heavy drama medevel/feudal theme, from what I have so far it looks good. By the way is this map ok?
