THE RPG CHECKLIST

If you are making an RPG, the following items are a checklist of requirements you must meet:

1. Spikey-haired protagonist
2. Earnest/clueless female lead
3. Amnesia a key plot point
4. Events foretold by prophecy
5. Random battles
6. Orphaned party members
7. Airship travel
8. Underage hearoes
9. Technology is evil

and...?
this checklist helped me notice i have very little of these cliches.

My female lead is actually intelligent and level headed.
All the main characters are over 21, no Amnesia, no prophecy, no spikey all medium or long, or in the case of one of the black protagonists he is bald(in his youth)
Nobody is an orphan( i think one may be i havent really decided yet)
Technology is not evil by design.
There shall be random battles and an airship but i think that is it.

I literally have nothing on that list. I guess I'm not making an RPG then?

-You will not get any help from anyone not directly related to the plot, even though the world will end if you can't save it. NPCs will still get in your way, and shopkeepers won't lower their prices.
Everything has been done before.

In fact that's probably an RPG checklist rule too:

-Everything happening has happened before.
Is it bad that my game holds many of these cliches? I mean, I'd like to think I'm putting a new spin on old themes, but...
check;
1.. 1,000,000 words
2.. helpful Npc's
3.. face sets that look 10 years old.
InfectionFiles
the world ends in whatever my makerscore currently is

All conflicts are resolved by one side being wiped out entirely.

Haha, I love this.

-All disputes are settled with violence. Diplomats are useless. Treaties are meaningless and anyone offering to sign one is setting a trap. All conflicts are resolved by one side being wiped out entirely.

This covers my entire idea of "diplomacy" in a nut shell.
you know what I love? Earthbound is outside of almost everything on these lists

thats why its also one of my all-time favourite rpg's

Back to the list:
> Very annoying dungeons ( grinding at its worst, 2 steps and your attacked! )
> Saving the not that great-full but apparently hot* princess ( pixel-hot* )
> Smashing pumpkin heads ( this is absolutely mandatory! )
> A Side kick brother with a sexy green-outfit...wait this is sounding alot like Mario
Random encounters triggered just by changing the way you face is the dumbest shit ever (hi there pokemon!)
Pokemon exactly, I forgot to mention the cute-annoying-tag-along-but-never-helps-much sidekick but LockeZ took all the good ones

Oh right, derp, I guess my sarcasm detector is malfunctioning.

Anway!
- inexplicable monsters have recently started appearing in every imaginable location
- adorable useless mascot either joins the party or is the spunky rebellious princess's pet
- evil empire either constantly referred to or literally named "The Empire" to help you realize that it's evil
- main villain takes his shirt off and grows wings, no explanation given
tardis
is it too late for ironhide facepalm

this is not what grinding is

this is high encounter rate, not grinding

grinding is deliberately seeking out the battles

Humans are small, frail, and weak as individuals. Only by working together as one can they achieve the impossible.

The "impossible" being the defeat of the final boss, the final boss after the final boss, the final boss after the final boss after the final boss, etc.
8. Underage hearoes
That would be the only point I have... don't know if it's good since I am (not) doing THE Refmap classic RPG...

But I refuse to ever use random fights. Also airplane is just... whatever, unnecessary.

Religious relics are OOPArts (out-of-place artifacts).

A religion that restricts technology for it's bulk following, while using for it's own internal purposes (Yevon) is supra-evil.

Everything that has happened before, will happen again. The current incarnation of events is no exception.

I don't understand this. That ant lion boss you just fought has never been violent before! (Note: This particular one specifically happens in in FF4/FF9, but it might take another form in other games that I'm unaware of)

common mistake, I remember you only grind to boost your exp and stats e.t.c not out of an annoyingly high encounter rate
