I was thinking of changing the name of the Cannoneer to either Pirate or Captain, as it has always bothered me that the job is more related to a pirate than a "Cannoneer"...which I think isn't even in the dictionary. :X
Actually, the Cannoneer's are supposed to resemble Privater's. Those guys are people who are "Legal Pirates".
