the jpg still makes it look horrible, especially if the screenshot is doubled.

Acctually the sole purpose for not using JPGs in pixel stuff is that it becomes unusable. So resources and spritesheets become completely unusable unless restorated (HAAARD)... But no one is going to rip off these resources, and as you see, the quality is almost the same, so... That's not a problem ^^
