Just to let you know, the sbarg-compliant version doesn't do too much drastic, but it does have a lot of helpful bugfixes, has better partner following behavior, and makes the plot make slightly more sense (which, considering there's time travel involved, is a plus). It also has the credits and a short after-the-credits scene.
Save files from the event version should be compatible with the newer version, though the newer version has new dialogue in places you've checked out.
(Also, spacebar is used for running/dashing in this game, since it looks like you forgot that it mentioned that when the controls were shown at the beginning.)
