A potential submission to the Twisted Fairy Tales event hosted here on RMN! The game is developed within the time limit of the event and hopefully will be ready for download before Halloween. And the limited palette event that lives on in my heart, clearly.

Do Us Part is a short puzzle adventure game where the player controls the newlywed Margerita in exploring the estate of her new, somehow very rich, husband. Of course, a normal, peaceful marriage would not make an exciting fairy tale or game, so things do not go as expected. People might've gone missing in this mansion before. Spooky things might happen. Someone might die. Who knows! Margerita doesn't, otherwise surely she wouldn't be in this position in the first place. The game is loosely based upon How the Devil Married Three Sisters, with an emphasis on loosely.

A content warning is as follows:
  • blood
  • body horror and mutilation of the dead/corpses

These are pixelated and not HQ in your face, but if that type of thing can bother you, exercise caution! The scare factor may be admittedly low, however.

Will you say your vows?

Small Patch & Some Words

Hello! At this point I've updated the file to a version that
  • includes the font file you may need to install
  • includes a link to download the RMXP RTP if you're missing that
  • fixes several small bugs (a misplaced player transfer, a small event where a character will do an action even when not actually "present", tileset errors)
  • UPDATE: This isn't a bugfix so much as a note. If your PC's language is set to anything other than English, the text boxes will be blank! This was an oversight on my part, sorry! If you don't want to change your locale for one (1) game, AppLocale can circumvent that issue. I'm sorry about the inconvenience, and this will definitely teach me to choose fonts more carefully next time.

Even if this is a small game, thank you very much for playing it or even just checking it out! I'm still admittedly a little shy about joining in on events and game jams, so this was a fun little challenge for me to try to escape my comfort zone of hiding away, tossing a game into the void, then crawling back into the darkness from whence I came. Even if uh... that is a bit of what I did anyway!

If there continue to be errors or bugs, please let me know and I will fix them up.

I downloaded the game and was excited to play it but when I opened it a message that a file 'RGSS104E.dll' could not be found. Can I fix it somehow or is this an error?

I think you need to download RPG Maker XP's RTP
I played the game and it was pretty good! I liked its creepy atmosphere (mostly at the beginning). Also nice graphics!

I can't see any text. I think I'm missing the font? Fairly sure I have the RTP installed.

Ah, geez, I should've included that in the text! But yes, Cutiesbae is right. Please let me know if that didn't fix it!

Thank you very much! It was a fun challenge to try to keep it simple but distinct!

Possibly! Try installing MS Gothic and see if that fixes the error. If that's it, I'll be sure to link the font with an updated version, at least.
Is there a possibility to get a hint for the desk code?
Running circles in my head here XD

It may have been less obvious than I intended! Hint:
The stack of books next to the desk mentions addition.

There are a few books in the library that have numbers in the title.

Add those numbers up and it's the code!
Hi ! I really really loved this mini game. It is so cute and twisty, and the cat character is so awesome. I wanted to ask,
is anything unlocked depending on how many times the cat is fed?

Thank you so much!

The cat just counts how many times you fed it, it doesn't impact the game in any way.
I already downloaded the game, installed the font and RTP. But the font still didn't appeared.

I saw someone else mention... somewhere, that perhaps the text isn't showing up because of the locale! If your PC's language isn't set to English, I think the font doesn't load properly...! This will definitely teach me to choose my fonts more carefully.

If you don't want to change your PC's language settings for one (1) game (which is understandable!!!), there's a program called AppLocale that you can use to circumvent that issue.

lol you're right. I can play it now. Thank u.
Good visuals in this game! Wish there was more to the story though. Specifically with the nuns. That jumpscare was perfect.

On another note, you're welcome I guess? =P

Yeah, that required some moon logic because

There was nothing in the room that mentioned adding, and there were highlighted books that didn't have numbers in them, so it looked like the numbers weren't important.

But at least it was only 2 digits, so not too hard to brute force. And it resonated with the story, like "I'm just a lonely housewife with nothing better to do than try every combination on my husband's safe until I unlock it."

Maybe something to watch out for in the future though =P

Thank you for this and the note about the combo lock!!! I'll keep these sort of things in mind for future games.
A very cool and short game. Minimum use of the brain through the difference puzzles resolution and with an unique spooky atmosphere. Altough It has been made in only in month -or less- and Its also clearly visible, that's not a bad thing. Totally different. Maybe It needs a more deep explanation into some parts of the story but It works ok most of the time.

The best part would be the art in game and some "personal" items like the cat.

Played in 1 hour. 6/10

That's a very kind review for such a short jam game, thank you so much! I'll keep these things in mind (especially elaboration on the story) if I ever decide to retouch the game and for future projects moving forward.
