When Lavender woke up this morning, she wasn’t expecting to be surrounded by a crowd of over-excited, skull-masked strangers with cake and balloons. After all, it wasn’t her birthday; and this wasn’t her home.

She devises a plan to find her brother and escape from the outlandish townspeople of the Hollow - but is she prepared for the grave consequences?

Grimm’s Hollow is a video game inspired by a longing for a short and sweet RPG experience.

It has:

  • A lot of comfort food.

  • A lot of cute ghosts.

  • A lot of mean ghosts.

  • 3 haunted caves to explore!

  • Multiple endings.

Thank you all! I hope the game meets your expectations when it's released. :)
Been following this project for quite some time, it blows my mind how much more polished people are managing to make UIs in 2K3 than people have been able to do with later engines despite them having better tools.

Thank you visitorsfromdreams! For RPG Maker, I think it's because managing UI via code in the later versions might be more difficult to handle, which is why many resort to using plugins for their menus. In 2003, the picture-based event system means you can't create a menu without elaborately planning and creating a mockup beforehand (or you could, but you would cause yourself much frustration) and you're forced to think about your visuals first.
...I don't normally do this, but I wrote a very rough review for this game - I don't want to oversell it,
but, I really do want people to check out this game, cause holy poop! this game is good!

Don't let the cute and colorful screenshots fool you.
Underneath the bright and colorful exterior of Grimm's Hollow
is a dark and powerful game.

Without giving too much of the story away, you play as Lavender.
A recently deceased, spirit reaper, who struggles to save
her little brother's soul from the machinations of the after life.

The game plays like a mix between Paper Mario and Fatal Frame/DemonSouls:
Your main attack in the game is a QTE called "Swing", a deadly scythe attack,
that is able to deal critical damage to any foe by pressing down on your keyboard, at the right time.

This move can be difficult to pull off however, especially in the later levels where you're forced to evade
numerous spells and enemy attacks all at once. But as you gain Spirit Energy from fallen foes, you can
allocate these points to your skill tree and gain new special moves, attributes and abilities, making it
easier to pull off this main attack - it also feels really good to go back to previous levels and farm previously difficult spirits
who use to give you a hard time, for more and more spirit points

Grimm's Hollow moves at a very brisk pace, clocking in at a modest 3 hours, with only 3 levels.
While this may be considered a short game to some, so much happens between these 3 levels
and the game's tightly written, well developed characters. The art is fantastic, the animations are great,
the custom facesets showing the characters emotion in each scene - which the is absolutely
heart wrenching in parts - more than makes up for these shortcomings.

Very easy winner of the Star Stealing Prince Award (Best Original Assets Award)
and an incredibly strong contender for Game of the Year (Best Game of 2019).
This is a really good game! I'd even go so far as to say this is a game
I always wanted to make, but never had the talent, time or opportunity to have.
(Note:This is coming from the guy who made Steamed Hams but it's RPGMAKER2003 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))

Seriously tho, Grimm's Hollow is a fantastic game that truly shows off,
not only the technical, but the incredible creative prowess that rpgmaker2003
still has to offer, almost 20 years after it's initial release.
If you're reading this, this is a must play for 2019. definitely check this one out!

Fantastic work GH! ♥ Please make more games!
Oh my, this looks great! I may need to sink my teeth into this one.

Edit: The game is fine except the one enemy encounter featuring tank boi and cradle. This is a nightmare, it needs to go die, rot in hell, disappear, be incinerated, doomed and be sealed into outer space dimensions to never, ever ever ever ever again return.
OMFG THIS RAGE, AND I WONT EVEN DIE AND I CANT KILL THEM BECAUSE I NEED 2 TURNS (100 hit wasn't enough) AND I CANT FLINCH THE HEALER AND I CANT KILL THE HEALER AND THE HEALER FULLY HEALS THE TANK WITHIN A TURN AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

And if that wasn't enough to annoy you they drown you in quick time events for this one!!! FREGTRF nightmare. Ugh.

IT's an encounter. It shouldn't be virtually impossible unless.. I dunno.. u had everythang maxed out? I didn't have the flame buffs.. UGH.
I needed that. This is rage FFS (third cave before the big bridge. that one. it needs to be disappeared, and I can't even do it myself even though i one-shot the boss before this. Yeah no.)

The endings though, they make up for all of this. Thank you game, and dev who made game and all the people involved.

Ah, I'm sorry for the balancing issues in one of the encounters! I'm making an update to fix some of the bugs and balancing issues people have pointed out - I'm assuming "tank boi and cradle" is terry (the blue ghost with a shield) and carole (purple healer ghost)? If so, thank you for informing me - if there's any other ridiculous difficulty spikes, let me know :). And I'm happy that you enjoyed the endings, thank you for playing!

AAAAA , thank you so much for your lengthy review LordBlueRouge!♥ I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much and thank you for playing, it was wonderful to have you beta test!
Ahaha^^ it's alright, I just had to vent. You can thankfully avoid it, though I tried to take them on, like twice, when I did not want to restart.
That said, I am glad an update is coming for it. It's one of the few flaws of the game. A review will be up in time.

Thank you for responding : )
