Get Ready

Everything is in a full-force swing to prepare for the final version of Visions & Voices. The game itself is being unleashed on the RMN IRC channel tomorrow afternoon, with Ark and Silviera being the official testers. If testing goes smoothly, the game will then be released throughout the internet for a second - and much-improved - time.

In the meantime, the gamepage has been fully updated to account for the new version coming very, very soon. In fact, the gamepage takes the exact words from the revised help menu and then further expands on them. If you want to know about the game, explore the page.

Finally, a large screenshot of part of the biggest dungeon in V&V was added last night. Three huge new dungeons have been added to the game; it's all about exploration.

Release Very Soon

There are not going to be Achievements in Visions & Voices. WIP wants to make sure that they are perfect before public implementation but it might take longer than Karsuman and I would like.

As such, the game is going to go out very soon, most likely within the week. Karsuman has a lot of classes Tu-Th, but we'll finalize it regardless.

I can't wait for all of you to be able to play the (re-?)final version of V&V - it's balanced, polished, and has all bugs that we could find fixed.

Character List and Completion+

Karsuman finished writing descriptions of all the major characters in the village. If you're interested, check out the Characters tab.

Soon enough I'm going to be adding some tabs about the battle system and exploration. Release is very, very close - the game itself is 100% complete, but since WIP and I are still figuring out achievements we're not releasing it yet. Until then, Karsuman and I are adding new areas and character annotation so that the game is even better than the improved base game.

Hang on - it's coming before the end of September. =D

ARK IS A HERO

Ark just beat a super-powered-up version of the final boss without using a special item on it that you're supposed to use to power it down. Note that this means that he was fighting an omnipotent version of a supreme version of the final boss.

He won.

It was amazing.

Then, due to a hilarious bug, the normal version of the final boss popped up immediately after. Ark dealt with it, this time realizing that he could use the special item to power it down.

Ark is an idiot, but he is also a hero.

In other news, Silviera and I managed to figure out that stupid final major bug I mentioned in the last blog! Mad props to Silv.

Excellent Testing Results

While we have a handful of other people testing Visions & Voices, Ark, Karsuman and I have been playing a serious run-through of the game. We've broken and fixed stuff, adding some new things, made sure systems work, discovered that evasion didn't work like it was supposed to (then made it work correctly), and have wound up so far with only one major bug left... and that one bug doesn't happen very often.

Our excitement is growing quickly as we play the new and improved version of V&V. Bosses require tactics, equipment is potent, dialogue is crisp and the atmosphere is creepier.

Only a week or two left until WIP finishes his awesome work for both V&V AND RMN as a whole, and then V&V will be released with even more content then we have now.

Prepare yourself.

Testing Call

If you pop in to the RMN irc channel (irc.dynastynet.net; #rpgmaker.net), Karsuman and/or I might just let you test some of the new and improved V&V. We're still constantly working on new content to expand the game, but the vast majority of the Overhaul is complete. All that's left to fix are improving monster steals, expanding the Abyssal Skycastle, updating the help menu and merging some of the tavern dialogue sequences to fit the new time limit.

Visions & Voices is getting better day by day - if you don't mind playing a potentially impossible game (this is why we are testing!), hop on in to IRC soon.

How YOU can help US

Visions & Voices is being overhauled so that the balance is improved and directions are more clear. More areas and equipment are being added as well - expect even more non-linear fun in a deadly setting to be re-released in a few weeks. If you want to be helpful, get on the RMN IRC channel (irc.dynastynet.net, channel #rpgmaker.net) and tell me or Karsuman what you liked and didn't like about the game. If you don't want to go on IRC, just leave a comment on the gamepage or on this blog entry.

I am pretty sure that I'm done messing with the stat system now. Here's how it works.

Each character has a 15/13/10/10/8 distribution to their stats. 10 is considered 'normal' in a stat. Weapons, off-hand items and armors will still, of course, mess with these, but the effects will be noticeable now. The once-invisible PHYS(ical) and M(a)G(i)C stats are now displayed on weapons/etc. as well - this way you really know how an axe compares to a spear.

Damage is like this:
If Melee or Ranged, add PHYS to the damage.
If Force or Psychic, add MGC to the damage.
If a mixture of physical and magical, average PHYS and MGC.
If Sleight, average PHYS and MGC and add 5.

If Melee/Ranged/Force/Psychic, add the respective stat (Brawn/Perception/Tenacity/Charisma) to the damage. If Melee/Ranged, subtract half the target's respective stat (Brawn/Perception) from the damage. If Force/Psychic, subtract 5 from the damage.

If Logic > 12, add 1 to the damage. If Logic > 15, add another 1 to the damage. If the target's Charisma > 12, subtract 1 from the damage. If the target's Charisma > 15, subtract another 1 from the damage.

This is your damage. Better than the percentages and multiplication and perfect averaging and TOTAL MESS from before, right?

Visions & Voices Version 1.6 - now 1.7

This features some late game monster buffing and the resolution of a number of remaining bugs.

It SHOULD be VX RTP independent now, but please let me know if there are any other problems encountered.

Edit: Hooray, we found another stupid bug related to teleporters.
