Version 1.1 is available. I played it through and there were no bugs so if you say there are, you are a liar. Enjoy!

Story
In a time before time itself, a time before man inherited the world around him, the Holy Knights of Eden protected the Sacred lands from a mysterious force, known only as "Evil". Those inflicted with this disease must be cleansed, for the sake of the holy lands.

Follow the adventures of a young boy as he travels the world of Pangea in his quest to rid the lands of the rising Serpent Army. Though he seeks to avenge the former inhabitants of his homeland, everything soon changes when he befriends the legendary Knights of Eden. While the plot progresses in the vein of older NES RPGs, there are plenty of controversial twists to satisfy even the most skeptical fans of the genre.

Features
-The game's graphics are entirely in black and white.
- As Jogan levels up, he slowly matures from a young boy to a man. The more levels you gain, the older he begins to look, and the stronger he becomes.
- With each level up, Jogan learns new attack combos that are completely customizable! This makes gameplay much more strategic in nature.
- The world of Pangea has been designed from the actual thing! Yes! This means it is HUGE! Countless places to explore, and endless sidequests to complete along the way. The world also includes the lost city of Atlantis and the Continent of Eden!
- I promise the greatest soundtrack you've ever heard in an oldschool RPG. That is a PROMISE!

Battle System
As stated above, players choose attack combos with each level up. Heavier attacks will wear out your energy meter, so sometimes choosing weaker combos is the wisest choice (especially against large parties of weaker enemies). For this reason, the player must make sure to have a good number of strong and weak combos to preserve energy.

Strategy Guide/Walkthrough Completed!

Yes, I finally finished it!

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8MLWOP0H

It's also available on the main page.

In other news, I found one last bug having to do with the level 40 upgrades. I guess no one has needed to get that far to beat it yet, but it is fixed and ready for the next release, whenever I decide to put it up. I may just do it when I finish the Deluxe Edition. Also, the game now has 2 reviews. One good, one not so good. I believe this is an accurate depiction of how this game will be received by RPG players, as it is catered to a specific audience.

Thanks to all who have given this game a chance, and thanks for all the great emails of feedback and praise. I incorporated amerikevicius' tips and bug finds in the walkthrough, so another big thanks goes out to him for letting me know!

Because he's Ash Ketchum's long-lost identical twin brother, Ash Killem.

No music
No intro direction indication
No monster graphics
Slow walking speed
Char graphics uneven

No thanks *deletes*
No music....? DAMNIT! This is what I was so worried about.
But dude, you start on the tiniest island with a cave, what more direction do you need? There are also people that tell you if you talk to them, and I included the walkthrough. And the graphics and walk speed are part of the retro aspect.
Nevertheless, I can't let anyone download this until I somehow fix the music issue.

Before you even start, you're able to walk around. Now, I'm not sure if you're supposed to wait for stuff to start appearing, but it just felt... off. Like a bug or something. I was about to just leave without commenting on this, but you should seriously take some time to rework your maps, as most are... well... they could definitely be better. This stuck out the most with the "endless hallways" of the first dungeon. I doubt you needed THAT much room for an entryway, eh?

And... er... When you stand next to a few people, you're almost floating the evening is so off. And you should probably consider re-ripping or re-downloading your graphics for the pokemon characters, as it looks like you saved it as a jpeg and then as a format that the rpg maker allows, as there are dark pixels within them, which makes them look off-putting.

And about the walking speed, either cut down the size of your maps or leave the walking speed as the default, or better yet, give the player the choice to switch between slow and normal. There really is no excuse for this.

And the music issues? It's a magical little thing called using midis, a format of music that Rm2k actually recognizes.
The following comments are bought to you by angry Internet man.
Hmm, okay you raise some good points here. I agree with the walking speed to be honest, I was afraid to do this because many other 'retro' rm games are using the slow walk... but yeah Pangea is huge so it did make my play through a little annoying at times. I like your idea of the choice. I'll most likely implement that as well.

Now about the intro, I'll have to check into this and see what other people are thinking. Is the dialogue introducing the main character not showing up at all?

You're right about the pokemon rips, for some reason I'm having trouble fixing them. It's been working right with all the other sheets, so I'm not sure what the problem is. That's something I definitely plan on fixing for the final release.
lol quite angry, apparently.
I stick by my decision to use this music though, regardless of how many issues it may bring. That's why this is the beta release and not the final.
I played through the first dungeon, the town got destroyed, and i went to the next town, which was also already destroyed. Then I went into a cave and was immediately killed by Arachnids.

No music at all was heard... thought my computer was the problem, until I heard the game over music.

All the skills do the exact same amount of damage.

No monster portraits and poor use of RM2k battle script makes battles really uninteresting.

Story is weak and uninteresting. Dialogue is bad.

Maps are way too big and boring (no details or interesting environment to explore), walk speed way too slow, encounter rate way too high.

Lack of diversity in fights. Fighting two slimes over and over again is not fun, it's annoying. And no, running into three slimes instead does not make it any more intuitive.

As it stands, your game is not very good :(. Sorry. You may want to think about completely reworking it from ground up, or just starting over.
Did you open the game with the RM2K engine? Or did you just play by clicking on the .exe file? I'm still trying to figure out if that is the problem with the music, 'cause that's how it works on my end.

(That town is a dungeon, you obviously left without exploring at all).

I wish people would stop ragging on the graphics! You clearly know what you're getting into, it's minimalism. The black and white doesn't give it away? Also, the dialogue is exactly as it should be. It's brief and precise, and I'm pretty sure there are no spelling errors anywhere. I wanted it to be reminiscent of classics like FF1.

I do appreciate the constructive criticism, but I don't think you gave it much of a chance either. I understand that maybe it needs more to hook you from the start, but you played 10 mins of a 15 hour game.
I did give it a chance. I went in with an open mind and low expectations. You didn't exceed those expectations, I'm sorry.

I looked in about five or six of the houses in the second town, and only saw that everyone of the people inside had been killed (i did find potions in one of them, though). There was nothing there to lead me to believe that the town was anything more than that.

I can appreciate minimalism, but honestly dude, boring is boring. Even games like FF1 had diversity in their dungeons and landscape. I still play dragon quest, FF1, and even the old gameboy FF Legends games; however, for what you're trying to emulate, you're emulating all the worst aspects.

For the record, I played it by clicking the .exe file that came with it.
Aha! So the music might still work after all! It needs to be opened through the engine.

I'll keep the navigational problems in mind for the next release. Maybe some kind of quest log would help, although I've never attempted one before. And I suppose I should also block off some places to draw attention to the linear progression.
Hey man, I'm new to this forum but I think I like where you're headed with the game. At the very least, your description of the game shows me that you're a thinker and that you're aiming for something unconventional and nifty.

As to me, I'm a decent person, a constructive critic; don't know for certain precisely what you're looking for in a tester. I'd be interested in looking at what you have and in trying to help you out *where you're at*, not in regaling you with a list of personal grievances.

So do you want an email or something? Let me know.
