You wake up in a cell with a mattress, a desk piled with coded papers and books, and a computer terminal with access to three other hidden occupants of the dungeon. The choices you make will determine who escapes, who dies, and who is trapped forever. But be careful... Not everyone is who they seem.

The game is written in Java and can either be downloaded or played in the browser here. Please contact me either through the comments or at psy_wombats@wombatrpgs.net if you have any problems running the game.

This is a short project inspired by the likes of Adventure, Myst, those 'escape the room' flash games, and also MSpaint Adventures. The game is probably an hour long at most depending on your reading speed, though there are nine possible endings. Note that this is cross between a visual novel, adventure game, and text RPG. If you don't like reading too much, you probably won't enjoy this. The only gameplay is through choices you must make as the player. For instance:
"You can examine the <w>all mirror, the <c>abinet, the <m>edicine chest, the <c>abinet, the <d>rain, the <s>ink and shower, the <t>oilet, or head <b>ack the the main room."

Have fun in your attempt to escape...!

Latest Blog

Javascript version, Mac compatibility, featured-ness, other things...

So the main reason I'm updating the blog is that I just added another download for the game, this being a version of The LCPANES Terminal in HTML5/javascript. A while ago it was brought to my attention that on Mac computers, it wasn't possible to make selections at choices. This new version should fix that problem, so I'm going to go ahead and set it as the main download. (additionally, this should be playable on a mobile devices, if you care to try)

Next up, by this point, everything that's included in the game is definitive as far as typos/routing goes. I deliberately shut up about theories and intentions while this game was featured because at that point, it was "done," and I'd prefer the work to stand alone without any additional creator's notes or interpretations. It was a little surreal to have this game featured seeing as how it has zero graphics whatsoever, but I hope those who noticed it through the RMN front page enjoyed the game. (wow, that's only what, 3 months late? oh well)

Oh, and the reason this JS viewer was made was because of another VN project in the works... if you enjoyed the writing in this story, I'm currently working on Snowbound, which you can follow here. PentagonBuddy's also working on this, but we're holding off on an RMN page for a little bit.

sooo, just got enging #6.
i have a question:
does it do any differents, if i check the cabinet in the bathroom after the first night?
(sorry if my english is bad)

YES!
I've finally got Ending#1 !
my first one was 7 and then 4.

Sooo...I really LOVE your game :3
You should do more games like this.
By the online version, I thought it was going to be you paired up with 3 other people and you have to work together in real-time to "escape" and win...That would have been a cool concept.

And one of the other 3 would be a plant to throw everyone off. Of course, that would be a lot of programming for the AI, unless you pull a cleverbot or something.

Lol Visual novel XDDD

I think Text Adventure is a most accurate term for this game XD

I agree, that or "Wall of Text". :P LCPANES reminded me of those old RPG novels back in my school days.
Nice. I'm still learning JAVA, so it'll be nice to see a game like this.

I received endings 6, 7, 4, and 1 in the 4 times I've played so far before I checked the walkthrough and found out how each ending is reached. I'm probably going to play for each ending to see what happens now, since this is very entertaining.
I was pissed off when I wrote that. I took it down because it's pointless trolling.

Cool story, bro. Put the game down in 5 minutes. This game bored me to tears.

Awesome judgement huh? I can do it too. Oh it's not because your game sucks or anything it's because it's an indi game and that automatically means I can't spend time playing it. Sorry, dude. You might as well stop making games in general because nobody has time to play them.

You need to chill dude.

(I can't believe nobody has said it yet...)

Congrats on being featured for August! I've never played this game before when Fallen-Griever mentioned this sometime back long ago...but I guess I should give this a shot, now. It's kind of cool to start seeing some visual novels get more respect here as of late. Hopefully, this will be a goodie! :D
Okay, then I probably caught those mistakes. There's probably a few word omissions still in the wild though, not much I can do about that though expect fix them when they're pointed out. The word variation has been changed around too. I checked every instance of "that was" and changed about 80% of them. ...Wow, did I abuse that phrase.
I played the offline version; was the other one more updated? Well, anyway, most of the mistakes were sentences that didn't make sense because of missing words and such. As for odd word choice, there were like three points after reading the computer that it says "well that's disturbing", or some variation of that. Just little things like that.

Nice game, although the spelling/grammar, as well as some of the word choices, kinda let it down a bit.

I recompiled the script, ran it through some spelling/grammar checks, decompiled, and reuploaded to the online version. Most people were saying they weren't so bad, but ughh, why did I do this earlier, so many awful typos. Thanks for bringing this up. Oh, but if there were any specific weird word choices, I'd be happy to go and fix those as well.

Also, (because I love tagging recommendations onto my posts apparently) if you like this game, you'd probably enjoy 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for the DS. They're very different games, but I think the tone of the story are very simple. There's a lot more exposition and stuff in 999, but the story as a whole is more elaborate so I suppose it all evens out.

I really need to grab a DS...
Nice game, although the spelling/grammar, as well as some of the word choices, kinda let it down a bit. I've been through all the endings though, and while I understand not spelling out everything for the player, I feel a bit more explanation as to what the hell is going on would be good.

Great, incredible story, good job man!

though i noticed some bugs:

i hope you can fix it, since it's really an amazing game!

All fixed! It was a bug were if you tried to play again the game would always think you picked KUHOOK. If you refreshed the browser page or reloaded the app, it would go away. The downloads have been updated, thanks for your help.
Great, incredible story, good job man!

though i noticed some bugs:

when you first use ACLIBR with LICOZY, then you choose to save Cecilia KUHOOH, i pressed K, but the programm instead, got SETH... i tried this 2 times, but still, it doesn't get it.. don't know if it's made to be this way, because of Cecilia..

the second problem is a little bit hard to explain, since i did it only once and don't remember much.. anyway, i choose ACLIBR with seth at first, but then, after a while, things changed and i couldn't talk anymore with seth, instead i was talking to both cecilia (she was responding me) and LICOZY...

oh yeah, one last thing, in the diary os elyse, when she explain who's behind each computer, she says that catherine is behind KUHOOH, but down some lines, she says Cecilia.. don't know if there was somebody before with the name catherine or it's a mistake so...

another little probable mistake is when Seth has been poisoned and he's copying the messagges from LICOZY with the codes for everyone.. oh, i'm gonna make a screen...http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/225/lcpanesbug1.jpg/

i hope you can fix it, since it's really an amazing game!
I played three times before I got ending #8 (I think my other two were 2 and 7?) - and I set up communication with AV instead of LIZ on the run that granted me that.

Also on that run I tried to take the meds (you can't?) and I had a shower, those things made no difference whatsoever.

EDIT: I WANNA KNOW WHAT'S IN THE FAKE BOOK.

Edit #2: Just played again and got ending 9! I can't, at least off the top of my head, imagine what I need to do to get the rest of the endings, though.
