Phillip and the Leg Horse set off on a strange and deadly mission to find the legendary City Of Forms from which all things in the world are derived. On their travels they must overcome ghosts, criminals, hyponosis, lions, Draculas, cryptic letters, muscle hedonists, swamp knights, mysterious caves, blood ghouls, grotesque monsters, purple drank and more in order to discover the secret of Space Funeral.

A shortish RPG Maker 2003 game with original graphics, a soundtrack of creaky vintage electronica and obscure Japanese noiserock, and lots of blood.

i'm really pushing it by now huh but i thought this pic by SirRailgun on deviantart owned

in other news the gamejolt page for space funeral has 10000+ downloads! i dont even know

so this blog isnt a complete waste i'm gonna talk a lil here about probably the biggest influence on this game, which was Gary Panter's "Jimbo In Purgatory" comic book. it's basically this berserk mashup of the entire western literary canon into an apparantly crude comicbook filled with robots and cartoon dogs. alice cooper and the evil robot from westworld both show up to declaim lines pulled from boccaccio's "decameron" and the text is entirely composed of lines sampled from other works, ranging from beatles songs to medieval poems to finnegans wake to what sounds like an imdb review. It's structured around Dante's Divine Comedy but what it's really about is the idea that there's this continuous dialogue going on through centuries of writing; people responding to or fighting against or quoting or misquoting or parodying each other in a lineage that goes from dante to boccaccio to chaucer and right through to james joyce and ezra pound in this huge bawdy cacophonous argument stretching across centuries. It's very funny and deeply bizarre and weirdly moving, and a lot of the mood in space funeral was very influenced by the strange rhythms and sense of discovery and unexpected linkage of this excellent book. the use of quotation and reference was something i thought was weirdly fitting for an RPG Maker game too with all the focus on rips etc, and proved to me that even when you were doing that stuff you didn't have to be tedious and dogmatic about it; if you pushed it far enough then it could become kaleidoscopic and exciting again, sort of like sampling in hiphop. the visual style of the book was also a big impact; a lot of gary panters work is based on the strangeness and grotesqueness of uh popculture characters. most of the book consisted of very stiff people moving up or down while keeping the exact same pose, which is (one of!) the reasons why there wasn't more animation in this game.

basically this was just a gary panter fangame all along lol so much for your 'originality' chumps *tosses dollars over shoulder, speeds away on vespa*

There is a glitch you can exploit for added Gramp and Pep-Pep functionality, once you reach Lv. 12 use the Bone Flute to warp to Route 6 and talk to the mayor (NOTE: THIS ONLY WORKS *BEFORE* YOU HAVE FOUGHT GREY SHOGGOTH. PLEASE STOP EMAILING ABOUT THIS). Then walk directly south into the sea and take three steps left, a Missingno will appear. Once it is defeated your computer will reboot and you can play the game in "Gramp Mode". This may corrupt all save files and destroy your computer however you will have all the gramps you could require.

epic dude
If you equip a weapon on Leg Horse or Phillip (other than the rusty knife in Phillip's case), their normal attacks don't animate properly. Instead, their sprites just turn transparent for the attack's duration.

This is pretty cool otherwise. Love the Mistery command, I use it in every battle.

I never used the Mystery command. Completely forgot about it. :( Gotta play it again.

Btw, you (catmitts) should consider a sequel.
if there's one thing i've learned from video playthroughs it's that nobody uses the mystery command :(

also i've already thought about a sequel! it would be a completely straightfaced adventure game set in London during the Blitz with lots of uh Thomas Pynchon-esque mysterious conspiracies in distance etc, rumours of mysterious relics and secret errors in the sewers, what is this "city of forms"...... and then it all leads up to one of those giant head things barfing blood everywhere aaaa. I probably won't make this though

I used mystery command three or four times.

I even tried it twice in one battle. "You're all mysteried out."

I thought it was very cool and unique. (Along with the stat effects and "elements"--ghosts are weak against old videos!)

The weapons, though, in general aren't at all necessary. Your attack goes from 85-90 with a weapon so there isn't much of a need.

Not that that really matters with this sort of game. I do applaud the level of difficulty (easy & not frustrating, but still somewhat rewarding).

I lead every battle with it.
This is the greatest RM game I have ever played. Better than a blurred line, better than Hero's Realm (sorry kentona <3), better than Exit Fate, it assumes it's throne atop the masses. I love you, catmitts, and all your demented offspring thrust upon this site.

Also I didn't notice until a few battles before the final boss that I had mystery, but it completely healed me when I used it!

this topic doesnt meet the requirments, please would you fix this? ^______________^

"Your topic should include the following things: (Some parts N/A for Non-RPG games)
Game Title and Platform - What it's called and what Creation Engine it was made with.
Story and or Introduction - A good summary, not revealing but general info or background.
Character Details -Who's in it and a little bit about them.
Screen Shots - You'd want to show what the game looks like.
Features - What special systems the game has.
Download - A link to a file host or RMNs main page link
Credits - Who's content is in the game, remember it's not only just for in-game scripts."

observe and follow the mandates and ruls.

deathgramp be damned..
Hahaha, wha che buh... grrrrrr! It doesn't fucking work for me! This was the biggest tease my computer ever did to me. I booted it up, ran it, it showed the Enterbrain screen, and I was like, "Okay, but that doesn't mean it will run." then it showed the title screen, and I was like, "Yes!" then I started a new game. Crash. I give up, 1 out of 10 games I try don't work for me.
You're missing out, bro.

Probably, but there's not a thing I can do about it. Just have to delete it and move on.

I like how things on that site get more posts in a day than most things get here in a year.
