Lyanna was adopted as a infant by a farmer and his wife who lived on the outskirts of the hamlet Tarislar. When she was 15, a traveling acting troupe called the Maridan Players passed through Tarislar, and performed one of their plays in exchange for free room & board. Lyanna’s whole family went to see the show that night, and afterwards, they were introduced to the troupe’s leader Fabian Valenti. Fabian amazed Lyanna with a list of locations he visited, and prestigous people he entertained. Lyanna was left awestruck by Fabian, and decided to become an actress and travel with the troupe in hopes of exploring the world, while making a name for herself in the process. However, as time went by, Lyanna wasn’t where she expected to be. Many times Lyanna tried to go home, but Fabian’s charm would always bring her back. Unfortunately for her, Fabian was in debt to the Gallahad Trading Company, and needed Lyanna to use as a bargining chip. Against her own will, and unbeknownst to the rest of the troupe, she was handed over to Gallahad’s men. A few weeks later, she was sold to a slave trader from the country of Sandoria. She’s a very lively young woman, but she’s too trusting, which often gets her into trouble.

Vor is the current ruler of Maridan and rules it with an iron sword; having completely cleansed its capital, Syllia, of any crime. He was distraught when his eldest son, Caledan, went missing along with his wife and 5-year-old son two years ago. So much that he all but neglected his two remaining children - Tristan and Sophita. And it wasn’t until recently that he named Tristan Crown Prince. This delay in naming his successor has everyone wondering if he actually believes in Tristan’s ability to lead, however the simple truth is that he was holding out hope for Caledan’s return.

He would very much like to choose Fiona, but if he does Fiona must resign from her position, meaning she will never reach her goal of becoming the first female Grand Master. He knows how much it means to her, and will not disclose his true feelings, thus putting her in an uncomfortable situation.

Sophita is the only daughter of King Vor, and fraternal twin of Tristan. She is a very quiet, and well-mannered, young woman. She almost never leaves the castle, and when she does, it’s only to breathe in the fresh air, or work in her garden. She has a strained relationship with her mother, and had one with her late, older brother. It was clear to both Tristan and Caledan that she was King Vor’s most prized possession, but was largely ignored by him when Caledan disappeared. It doesn’t bother her because she cares about Tristan the most, which is why she constantly judges Fiona; she knows Fiona is the only one who can take her brother away. Fiona mistakenly believes her to be stuck-up, but in reality, she just wants what’s best for her brother.

Gretchen is a cadet assigned to by Coren to apprentice under Fiona. Gretchen was born in hamlet of Tilverton. And after losing both of her parents to unrelated illnesses, she was raised by her maternal grandmother. However, when her grandmother died, she had to learn to fend for herself. She began a career as a pick-pocket, but quickly learned that stealing from those worst off than her was a fruitless endeavor. She then decided to move to Syllia; a city with more people and more wealth than she had ever seen. She was doing quite well for herself - that is until she came across Coren Kasin. Ignorant to whom he was, she proceeded to steal from him, but was thwarted before she even knew what happened. Expecting a severe punishment for her misdeeds, she was surprised by Coren’s actions. Instead of arresting her, he gave her the choice to serve her country. She begrudgingly accepted, but later came to take pride in this newfound purpose. Later she was made the personal bodyguard of Fiona, which means she has a chance to learn from the daughter of one of Maridan’s greatest heroes. An opportunity she plans not to squander.

He won many battles and duels during the war, and was praised by his men for his strength. Nowadays, however, he suffers from a mysterious wasting disease, and cannot even muster up enough strength to get out of bed. Because of his condition, he had to relinquish his duties to his eldest daughter, Xune. He does not approve of her newly established religion, but yielded to her because it was what the people wanted. He hopes Xune will lead his people in the right direction.

Xune is the eldest daughter of Xuvier, she is also a Schismatic who established Vaalbarism and made it the adopted religion of Regimir. When she was but a teenager she ventured into many ruins with her younger cousin Caledan. However, exploring a particular ruin changed both her and her cousin. Despite orders from both parents neither she nor Caledan would divulge the name or the location of the ruins they went to. Soon she began distancing herself from the teachings of Senlis and started preaching about Vaalbara, the goddess of life and death. As her reputation grew, she went from city to city displaying “Miracles” such as healing the sick. In Regimir she actually brought someone back from the dead, a feat which won over the majority of Regimirians leading her father to decree Vaalbarism as the one true religion of Regimir and its surrounding region. Her divine ability also has the people questioning why she doesn’t heal her father, but she claims his death is the will of Vaalbara, and thus will not intervene. She is soft-spoken and extremely kind to her people, and even though High Priest Priam branded her a heretic, the people of Regimir could care less.
