Super RMN Bros 2 is the sequel to the community event, Super RMN Bros. where everybody could make Mario levels and have them all placed into one single game. The weapon of choice? Super Mario Brothers X v1.3, a (now dead) PC game made to create and play Mario style levels with a mix between Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World physics with enemies and obstacles spanning Mario 1 to Super Mario World!

What You Need to Play Super RMN Bros 2
You need the creation tool used to make RMN Bros 2 to play it: Super Mario Brothers X v1.3 available here! Run the installer, download and place Super RMN Bros 2 into the SMBX "Worlds" folder, run SMBX and play Super RMN Bros 2!

Super RMN Bros 2 Officially Completed!

It's done and out! This is, barring any dumb bugs I missed, the final version of the game. No updated levels, no new submissions, just finished. If you downloaded the game prior to this please redownload and restart as some world map changes will fuck up your save file.

So please, download and enjoy!

Sorry for taking so freaking long everybody, I won't be in charge of any future Super RMN Bros. because I am doing a terrible job of it. I'll leave it to you guys to decide how to carry on from here.

Posts

If everyone helped out... no one can review it! I'll review it and post it here... but I won't review my levels of course.

O gawd not this again.

So I picked this up the other day to play all the stages floating around in the gap between dimensions, but I ran into some pRoBlEmS.

I was playing the old version, so I was able to reach Nightmare without a star requirement. It was as it described itself, but I beat it. When I finally unzipped the new version, I found I couldn't go back because I didn't have enough stars.

So I went around and beat all the other levels I could find, but...I didn't have enough. I had 68 when I needed 69. The star I was missing was from Shortstar's Cave level. There's an icon for it on the map, but the folder route is misspelled (I checked in the editor), so that level cannot be accessed.

Furthermore, because I had beaten Nightmare before, I already had its star, meaning there was yet another star I was missing somewhere. After rooting around for a while, I determined it was the star from Space Ace, which, as far as I know, can't be found anywhere on the map at all.

So, if I'd been playing the new version from the start, I would have only gotten 67 stars, preventing me from reaching the final level. I know it's all horribleness beyond the game's normal end anyway, but I figured we should still fix it.

Two other things I found strange were the secret island of levels that are all Lakitu's Playground/Bombfield (which, incidentally, are all broken due to folder path misspellings) and the Toad House level that doesn't exist that I assume would appear if Lair of Evil had a star at the end.

So...GRS???

EDIT: I'm fixing this if GRS isn't.

A'ight, uploaded my edited version. With GRS' consent, it can be the new official one (ie the main download). While I could just set it that myself, I don't want to overstep my bounds.
The link for smbx v1.3 doesn't work. Awwww. I wanted to give this a try. :(

Look for a game on this site called Mario V.S. the Moon Base. They have a link to the software.
Just wanted to post that I finished the game and really enjoyed it!

Great work, RMN community! :)

Thanks Orias, your feedback means alot to us. (But sadly, Brickroads feedback means alot more.)
Brickroad is closeminded, but if it made anyone better their levels, then some good came of it.

I kinda wish he'd give the finished version a try. As far as I know, he abandoned all hope after ShortStar's version, which was before most of the changes and cuts were made.

Of course, he'll still hate Bouncy Bouncy now and forever. ._.

I think someone should spam his e-mail with the download link.
I think you guys should leave it well enough alone. If he really cares that much he knows where to find it.

I don't know why you guys are looking for accolades or redemption from that guy.
I disagree we shouldn't leave well enough alone. There are people hyping him up over this... for putting us down. Its different since its a community pushing for this instead of the normal one person. Plus watching the original videos wow was he bad at the levels.

Other people look to accolades from him because he's like an ex that dumped you or a father that says you're not good enough. Luckily I have self confidence to have liked Super RMN Bros 2 enough to make my own version.

... Some levels were still balls and frustratingly difficult if not sheerly impossible. I beat every level at least 7x. Except for the one impossible level. But maybe since it was the only SMB game I was playing it was easier for me to tollerate.

I hope no one took me seriously in this post. Brickroad is a closeminded, opinionated nerd who happens to have some strong ideas about video games. All in all, I don't see why people seek his approval so much. I think its a sixth sense; a message from god telling us to "listen to the crab".

I think it's more the desire to prove him wrong that drives us so. I don't honestly expect anything more to come of RMN Bros. 2. I've adopted a 'better luck next time' mentality about it.

And yes, my hand in the next game's creation does have something to do with that. Impressing brickroad isn't a priority, but seeing a solid game through to completion is. If we're lucky, the latter of those goals will accomplish the former, but we'll just have to wait and see.
Yep proving a person wrong is good drive.

I don't listen to the crab... I listen to the shell. Boo ya.
The only problem I had with Brickroad is that he wrote a huge article and basically turned people against RMNbros. He's been too vocal about HIS OPINION. It's fine if you don't like it, but to go to such lengths to encourage other people to hate the game...not cool. Especially since there were some great levels. But now it's "known" that RMNbros is lame and always will be(because there have been 2 of them now!) so people won't give any future versions a chance. You know how the internet is. I remember reading on Talking Time about how they were going to make a game so much better than RMNbros, or something like that.

And some of the stuff he described as problems were pretty stupid. He picked my level, for example, and said that if you kill the Birdo then you can't ride the platform it shoots and said something like "What now?". Then you swim to the right about 2-3 screen lengths, big f'n deal.

I hope he doesn't bother posting on any future games. Good riddance.

(if we really want to prove him wrong then we need to prevent some people from participating. sorry to say but some people just suck at making mario levels :/)
Some people are intentionally stiff for the LOLs and the audience getters >>>

Its the Duke Nukem Forever treatment.

Yes let's all dismiss the legitimate criticisms a player had about a mediocre game. This attitude will surely cause future RMN Bros games to be much better.
Sorry, I am dismissing the illegitimate criticisms and biased hatred.

EDIT:
in fact, that's all anyone has done here. So I don't know where you are coming from Soli

It's not illegitimate and it's not biased. RMNBros 1 and 2 were both pretty bad games. Pretty much everyone agreed that they were when Brickroad said so. Now turning around and saying Brick didn't like the game because he's a big dumb meanie head is just silly.
