It's a bar! It's a bar! Those are some mighty fine looking seats there. But the fireplace seems odd. It appears like it juts out a little much. Do fireplaces do that in real life? Maybe if you want it to appear to be doing that, having a bit of wall on either side would make it look not as odd. Also the light near the door on the wall there--the light gets cut off instead of fading out on the right side. In fact, all the lights on the walls do when looking at them from the side.

But this is a lovely screenshot. Feels kinda cozy.

Some models of fireplaces come out of the wall a little bit; I moved it down a little more than usual so that I could put in a little fire charset moving around inside. But I'll consider adding some walls around it. :)

About the lights, do you think it'd be better if I put a little bit of light above them?

No I don't think that'll help because your problem is that the little glow that the lamps have is getting cut off with your copy-ing and pasting or with how you set them up on the tileset. Case in point, look at the lamp above the dark armchair. You can see that the light gets cut off pretty cleanly. You can remedy that by being more careful on how you add tiles to a map (are you parallaxing or using the editor?).

Ah, I see what you mean now. I use parallaxes. And I've been brushing in the lights in little cone shapes to keep with the top-down perspective. The light looks cut off over there because the light is part of the parallax, and not the overlay where the top edges of furniture look like it's in front of the player. I could move the lights to the overlay, but it'll increase its filesize.
(not sure if RM games' filesizes are really an issue nowadays, but I'm trying to keep it as low as possible)

Nope you misunderstood me.



The arrow points to the cut off of the light. I don't think it has anything to do with being an overlay or a parallax--all depends on how they were put onto the picture in the first place.

Looking over the tiles again, it appears that the cutoff's caused by the tiles themselves:


I'll erase the lines of light on them and fix all this as soon as I can, thanks for your help.

Yeah that's what I thought. I'm hoping you can get it smoothed out!
This game just looks so freaking pretty. I like the overall cohesiveness of the color schemes used for each screenshot, it really adds to the thematic mood and aesthetic of the game.
