Date, create, and share!

Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?

In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!

You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.

The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

New game forthcoming, some might like to know

Since I've been asked many times if I would ever make a sequel to Heartache....

Well this is not a sequel. In very many ways it's radically different. But some might find that it partially retains a bit of the same feel?

So I'm posting the first public screenshot here, and whoever is interested, look for a game page up in the next week or two with the title "Where One Citizen". Game is not complete yet, but after 10 years of development it's about time to start showing it!

Hi, I just wanted to say that after a loooong effort, I finally got a Non-Generic Ending in the game! More specifically, Riho's Ending, because she is the character that I liked more. :D

About the game, I have to say that it was pretty good! The only problems I had with it were that the game would sometimes shutdown itself randomly, the Non-Generic endings are hard to get and that the game itself becomes quite repetitive after a while... But aside that, it was a great game!

I was also considering the posibility of creating a character myself, to improve my story-writing skills. But don't expect NOTHING in the artistic side from me, because I can't do any art... Hell, it's most probable that I use one of the generic sets of tachies that Marrend posted here...

But anyways, I enjoyed the game and I wish you good luck in... whatever is that you're going to do next!

Sounds good, Ilan. The one thing I don't like about flowertheif's generic graphic sets (I'm 99% certain those are the ones you're talking about) is that the only thing that changes in each pose is the facial expression. Some differences in the actual pose would do wonders. That's just me, though.
I've been playing this game for nearly a year, popping up here and there to look and see if there were new characters out. Hello!

I just registered on the site, because I have to know did Kotone ever get finished?

Also, HI BASEDMG! HOW'S THAT KOTONE DOING?
AUGH

It's doing terribly. I'm having something of an existential crisis in regards to her route and I'm thinking of axing a few things entirely and starting fresh. Very little about her personality will change, but I'm probably going to give her story an overhaul. I just feel like I'm trying to shove as many plot points as I can into her story and it's going to break apart further down the line.

I'm also thinking of taking out the Club events to reduce file size and trim some of the fat, but that's up to you guys to decide whether or not you want the conditional club events to stay.

Sadly, that post was the last we've heard from BasedMG. Real-life issues suck.
I'm also thinking about trying my hand at making a character. Writing is one of my specialties and the coding seems self explanatory enough, I'm just not sure I have the time.

Well, good for you! I hope you found some spare time.

Speaking of creating a character, I almost finish the profile of mine, I will post an incomplete version of the character when part of her story is finished.

Time is a relative issue. For example, there's content listed on the ID-listing that has been listed as "unpublished" for years on end. Heck, some developers have just plain stopped showing up, but their content is still listed. It's like, there is this eternal hope that they will come by one day, and be like, "Sorry for being gone for so long. However, I've got this big-ass update for you guys to compensate for all the waiting!"

I've noticed this as well. I forget, are we limited to 2-digit character IDs? If not, then this isn't a problem, but if so then perhaps we should have some time limit on how long something can remain pending without any contact from the creator (a year, perhaps?) before we move it "off the grid".

Now that you mention it, I seemed to have forgotten to put in "ID 100 = ? Takuya [Kevincalanor, "Built-off", tachie/profile only?]" in the last update. On the other hand, I'm not sure how serious it was, content-wise. It felt more like a test of what could be done with that particular model than anything else.

Too-long-didn't-read version: We are not limited to two digits in regards to IDs.
So time is a non-issue, eh? Alright, just might be able to get behind this, then...
Are there any extra tachie just sitting around unwanted or anything like that?

And Marrend...is that Season of the Sakura I hear?

Mio's theme, specifically. It seemed to fit Mayu best. Though, Ruri's theme (Cobra Mission's Central Cobra theme) is my absolute favorite of those four. For me, it captures her personality so perfectly.
Uh, hey guys. I played the game a couple of times now and I've got some questions I hope I can get some answers to.

1. Is Keika's ending only available when you've progressed far enough with Tsubasa? I kind of remember Tsubasa telling me that Keiko's boyfriend was gambling or something instead of meeting her in one of my playthroughs.

2. How do I meet other girls in the game? Apart from meeting Tsubasa in my first playthrough I'm always getting Shihoko, Riho, Miki and Keika. Speaking of Shihoko, is her ending locked out when I get Riho' ending first?

3. Can I only meet a maximum of 4 girls in one playthrough?

I'll be very grateful if someone can shed some light on these questions. Thanks in advance.

I seem to recall a game where I met Miki, Keika, Tsubasa, Akari, and Hinami. I usually met Akari sometime after flatly refusing to assist with Tsubasa's investigations. Hinami was met sometime after meeting Akari.

1. Tsubasa isn't necessary. That's an alternate path if you know her enough, but you can also learn of the boyfriend's addiction through Miki.

2. There's three other characters.. but one of them is really hard to find on your own! The other two, though, you just need to find one of them and the other will appear.

- Fail the mind check with Tsubasa in the beginning.
- OR choose not to throw the baseball back in one of Riho's scenes.
- OR do neither and with a soul check of 20, Keika will introduce you two.

2a. I'm pretty sure it's possible to romance both Shihoko and Riho by the end of the game.

3. No, you can meet more, if the conditions allow it. Some characters can be booted out, you never see them again. I definitely remember a game where I had met all but the secret character. Custom content easily allows you to go above 4 girls met.

Does that answer everything? Thanks.
Alright, that really helped me a lot. Thanks Mute!
OMG this game is haunting in my head from the moment that I finished it!
It's annoying but it shows that the game is just amazing! I want more games like this. I didn't like the ending that much and when I played through it I only met 4 girls. Besides that it was just amzing.
I'm 90% sure you can meet every built in girl in one playthrough, pretty sure I did it this way.

I started with Miki, who gives you Keika, then Tsubasa from Miki's race event and Riho through Miki's story

Keika gave me Akari from an event, then Akari gave me Hinami through her story I believe

Then there's Voldemort...honestly, you should probably just use a guide for her, because it gets a little convoluted.

...And somewhere in there I met Shihoko. She's not hard to get. ;D

It's worth noting that I only met them all, I didn't complete all the routes.

Whoawhoawhoa.

Flowerthief is the same guy that made The PK Girl?!
