Sad, intriguing, beautiful

I'm Scared of Girls is a simple dungeon crawler with emphasis on story and atmosphere rather than fighting mechanics. As such, you travel the dungeon as Lamb in search of storyparts rather than battle. Exploration game describes it best.
Do not expect a traditional dungeon-crawler, nevermind a roguelike.

As the layout and mechanics have already been reviewed in detail, I will keep describing them to a minimum.

The dungeon

You fight through the dungeons, collect gems and search for 15 special red gems, which give you bits and pieces of the background.
To be precise, you teleport to a room to cut ties with your former life/memories.

Polishing and orthography are lacking, as some rooms serve no purpose or go into nothing, but the atmosphere and the story make up for it. It is a sad, but intriguing piece of art.

Lamb's memories are both realisticly and sensibly written, albeit they appear randomly and need to be put together by yourself.
The music is melancholic, sad and fits perfectly with the game; the artstyle suits the game just as well. While it seems unrelated to Lamb's personality, it does convey a disconnection, a gap between Lamb and this afterlife. The abstract forms that come afterwards.

The battle mechanics are a matter of taste. You basically "run" into enemies to hit them. You can get the hang of it rather quickly. They are fast-paced and allow you to explore without further hindrance.
As the focus is not on battle, I quite liked this approach.

Impression

The most intriguing of this game is that while you should sever ties with your former life, you delve deeper and deeper into the character and become more and more involved contrary to the purpose of finding these memories.
If anything, I wanted to know more.
That is probably also why I view the ending quite differently.

Given the warning at the beginning, the supposedly good ending has a bitter aftertaste.
I agree that it is a rather sudden and unexpected turn of events. It did seem rather cheap, but the involvement with said "former life" makes it a good finish to the underlying process Lamb is going through.

I have been pleasantly suprised and moved by this game. It lacks some fine-tuning, but that did not hinder the enjoyment.
