In a kingdom covered in snow, in a kingdom where the snow never melts and never goes away, there lives a prince who keeps watch over his kingdom and resolves to maintain peace. When the prince learns that his family’s history isn’t as spotless as he had been told, he endeavors to fix what his family had done wrong and to ensure the continual peace of his kingdom. This will lead the prince to battling the phantoms that prowl the lands, to saving a princess, and to realizing the secrets of his family and his kingdom.

The entire game takes place in Sabine Kingdom and the island that it rests on. The island is constantly shrouded in snow, but for some reason, no one ever feels cold. Plants continue to grow despite the snow, so there is no danger of a food shortage. There has never been a need to question this, so the residents of Sabine Kingdom are blissfully unaware.

Though of course, our prince--Snowe--is not blissfully unaware any longer. A dream leads him to combing through his parents' library and learning that something is amiss. What is our prince to do except try and fix what he had found? He can't just sit back and pretend like he hadn't read about a girl being locked in a tall tower where she may one day die from flames that threaten to burn her. No, he can't do that at all.

Did you like SSP and wanted more? Do you like reading??

Because of reasons, I've finally uploaded the sequel web novel, Ephemeral Prince to itch.io as an EPUB and a PDF. So, if you wanted to ever read Ephemeral Prince on your phone and not connected to the internet, now you can!

I figured this warrented a blog post, so I hope those who liked the game and liked the sequel will enjoy Ephemeral Prince on the go.

Maybe one day I'll make a game again, but today is not that day! Enjoy some old ass writing because it's like 10 years old! (which means SSP is older ugh)

@ Ashley: The download on the site is fixed. I forgot a http and wordpress was freaking out.

@ Benos: Waiting for RMN to approve it.

:D Thanks guys!

For those who can't wait: http://starstealingprince.wordpress.com/download/ You can find it here.
About how many hours of gameplay btw?
oh god the skeleton king is murdering me

oh goddddddd

Impressive work, though! Best game I've played made in RPG Maker VX? Maybe (although to be fair I probably haven't played enough games made in that engine. But this is good!)

Oh man, I'm really sorry Link! I didn't realize you had posted something until now. :T So much for getting notifications.

If you still remember, can you tell me anything else? Does Windows tell you anything when the game closes? I know the demo has problems with memory leaks (because of some scripts which I have fixed and RPG Maker VX in general). So any more information if you can still remember would be helpful. :<

NP! There was no error, when I would launch the game the window would pop up and immediately disappear with no error. However, I downloaded this newest version and tested it which appears to be working. So I can play now.

@lucidrose: I would wager about 9-10 hours. That's how long my testers took so it may be more or less depending on your play style.

@yamato: blind the guy! take out underlings with Flamma! Hang on I should post that guide on my site (http://starstealingprince.wordpress.com/guides/boss-guides/the-old/ for the old king guy if I'm assuming right).

@Link_2112: OK! I'm glad Link! I wish I knew why that would have happened with the old version, but if you can get it to play now, perhaps it was a fluke. Hope you enjoy! (This is funny, I didn't get a notification that you commented there either!)

I'm a forum ninja :3 Yeah, it's really weird that it would just close like that. Never had that happen with anything else, it's a fairly new(ly installed OS on an older) PC. I'll be sure to let you know how I enjoyed the game, which judging from everyone else well be very much so.
On Chapter Four right now.

Here's my favorite thing about this game so far: it strikes a perfect balance between fairy tale whimsy and creeping horror without undermining either. Plenty of JRPGs are either happy-go-lucky or super serious, with very little moderation in between. But what Star Stealing Prince does is that it establishes a beautiful, interesting world well worth exploring, and then repeatedly pulls the rug out from under you. The devotion of the prince's subjects appears touching, at first, despite the occasional hints that not all is right under the surface. But when you return, and the mothers and fathers and even the children reject you, you feel absolutely heartbroken before you realize that what your subjects felt for you earlier might have been as equally artificial.

Are there problems? The story gets a little convoluted as it breaks from its fairy tale roots, and some of the boss battles are almost stupidly hard (I died more times against The Old than I did in any single boss in first-half Dhux's Scar and that game was hard as nails.) But I think it's pretty fitting that what initially appears to be an enchanting fantasy is perfectly capable of drawing blood.

I'm almost certain I'll write a review of this thing once I'm finished with it. This game deserves as much exposure as it can get, quirks be damned.

THIS IS SO FUCKING ADORABLE/WONDERFUL/GREAT AHAHIFHKLSDFSDKGL

I am only five minutes in

EDIT: Hour in, got a RGSS error in the middle of the cave, right as a battle started. More than willing to continue playing, though; this game is amazing.

The Great Gatsby joke killed me.

EDIT2: Sleep against a single party member is completely unfair. =x

EDIT3: how do I beat Lorel ;_;

EDIT4: oh I used those debuff items and absolutely destroyed the boss, hoorj

@Craze: yeah the debuff items are really useful! And I do have some boss guides on the wordpress for my game so if you have any trouble, you guys can check it out too! (that is what I made it for after all, haha)
Question:

Is there a way to obtain the sword in the first room of the building you're first teleported to in the Sepulcher? There's apparently a magic circle in the room, but up to the healing spot past the hedge maze I still can't figure out how to access it. Unless it's an item that can be bought in the shop at the healing spot just before the Castle?

The Sepulcher is REALLY COOL by the way

Answer:
Yeah, when you get to the Castle proper (after the place after the maze (when party gets split up)), you can go through a room find the magic circle, and get to the sword. It's not a full sword but it's to get someone's final weapon.
I just finished the game.

One of the best games I have ever played.

I hope you will continue to make games this good.

Have you given any thoughts to a sequel?

@NEIN: I've given too much convoluted thoughts to sequels. There would be one on each ending. Making my game even more convoluted than it needs to be. But right now, I'm taking a break. XD
Congratulations on SSP's final release, Ron! That in iself is quite an achievement, especially for a gem of a game like this. More SSP love! :D Sequel for the win, hell yeah!

Ok, I'll calm myself now...
I finally got to the... well, it's a boss fight where you have two enemies, and one of them is male and the other one is female. And they completely destroyed me.
Can I do the optional dungeon now or do I have to wait more?

EDIT: I defeated them. I mistaked one of your previous posts and thought they were the final boss. °°

Snowe is redefining the very meaning of the "Woobie" trope. :(
this game is beautiful !! :DDD I love it playing it right now :O :D
