Would anyone like me to tell me which colours would look better?

A first step in the right direction might be swapping the background color with the border color.

Try that and see if you like it better.

Bright background colors are tiresome for the eyes, and the focus is supposed to be on the letters and icons anyway, not on the background of the windowskin.

EDIT: On second thought, if you want to go with red better go along with something like this:

But I've been wondering. If I put red in the front and yellow in the back, then it would be very dark making it hard to see. :\
