Great game so far! Will you be creating a full walkthrough? Also, how do I install the patch?

Thank you! I don't have plans to do that at the moment unfortunately. Too busy patching it up for those affected. You can install the patch by extracting the files and simply copying and replacing the old ones.

So I kept playing Easy mode after adding a few QOL mods of my own (lowering some of the sound files' volume in Audacity and adding a Save anywhere feature, which caused a game breaking error when loading in Mercado. That'll teach me to mess with other people's games :P).

I only ran into minor issues like typos and the Drakeema who seems to be missing the right part of its face. No performance issues, no problems with the menus or anything of the sort.

I defeated the Dragonlord and I'm about to start the extra post-game content. So far I think there's a great balance between familiar tasks and new content. The small changes to original areas and NPC dialogues kept the experience interesting. While the game is still DQ1 in essence and therefore not the most deep or exciting DQ adventure that exists, it feels like a freshened up and more enjoyable version of a nostalgic experience.

The end credits are nice too :)
Good job! I might share more of my thoughts after I finish the post-game stuff.

By the way, what kind of game do you want to work on next / what do you have in mind for future projects?

Sorry you had to make your own personal patch! lol. I've been swamped with finding a fix for AMD CPUs and DYNBlendModes and the occasional typo or out of bounds find.

The save anywhere featrue is indeed helpful and modern and at one point this was in the game. But due to the nature of some events it can clash and create crashes.

Thanks for the feedback. In hindsight, DQ1 can feel like like the most bland food dish out there and it's hard to add flavor to it, but I did my very best and I'm glad people are liking some of the new dialogue and content.

Good to see people liking the credits too!

In terms of my next project, sufficed to say...it won't be RPG Maker 2003, lol. I am going to look into using either UE5, Unity or a relatively new program that is an extension of Unity called RPG Bakin.

3D Graphics and Animation is what I went to Uni for and I want to put these skills to use. The idea is a 3D top down classic JRPG. Don't know if it'll be action or turn based yet but I'm in early planning.

It's exciting, the prospect of moving away from this game & engine but I'll never forget working on it with the great folks here, including you!

I downloaded this on a whim two days ago and apparently the full version just got released. So hooray! Congratulations!

I can't speed through games like I'm a kid anymore but I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes.

I love it very much and enjoy it a lot but I wish save editor work on this game.
I tried to use Save Editor Online and edit money like 9999 currency but it won`t show up in game.

The game uses custom variables so you can't modify them via normal means. I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the game!

Definition of style over substance.
The game sort of looks the part, which you'd hope to be true since it's not difficult to go to The Spriter's Resource and gather up the necessary odds and ends to make a Dragon Quest clone game. But things like the full-screen filters get annoying after a while and don't actually look as good as you think they do.

So much time was spent chasing "the look" that while the game may seem and appear mostly authentic to DQ, it is evident that not a single shred of effort was put into dealing with the most basic RPG-Maker 2003 bugs that arise from custom menu and battle systems -- bugs that can largely be considered "solved" at this point in time.

There are too many issues with using the CMS to bypass events/transfers, softlocks induced by activating the custom systems simultaneously, plenty of simple ways to gain player movement while a menu is still open, ways to trick the game into thinking you're cycling through menu A when you're actually in menu B, ways to bring up the menu during times when you shouldn't be able to, and more.

These problems should have been among the first to find solutions during the game's lengthy and troubled development, but it's abundantly clear where the priorities were, and where they weren't.

That, and the insistence to use sketchy, outdated dynRPG plugins rather than taking advantage of the newer Maniacs Patch which boasts better features and superior performance. The fact that there now exists a 2D Dragon Quest/RPG Maker 2003 game that runs poorly on mighty machines is not something to be proud of.

There are a lot of things done "right" here, but they are all let down hard by the countless missteps. You chased the "definitive edition" label and the clout so hard that you failed to notice and take care of the many detailed issues along the way.

Thank you for this constructive criticism. The menu is not something I've seen most have issues with. Dyn Blending seems to have caused a lot of issues with AMD devices no matter how good the rig is and I'm working on a patch for this.

I can only react to bugs with QA and during QA, these issues did not arise. With limited QA testers with the most recent version there are things that did indeed slip through the cracks. But it's been really jarring to see some people have none of the issues you've mentioned and love the game, and some who have these issues and are rightfully so, critical of it.

At the end of the day this is a free fan game made in my spare time. I'm trying to get this right for all users.

Also, a lot more effort went into gathering assets for this game than spriters resource. A lot of assets have been painstakingly ripped. Especially the monster animations. To say that no effort was put into this game is not something I can agree with. I've put a lot of work into this and I'm sad it didn't work out for you.

Hello! It's me, BEETLE_BURGER from sackchief's stream.

So glad to see that you made a patch on such short notice. I am a big fan of the new QOL stuff, like the fortune teller in Radatome that tells you about your personality and the additional info regarding the difficulty modes.

Sadly, I must inform that the patch does not seem to fix any of the performance issues for me. The frame rate is still significantly reduced in the overworld and dungeons, as well as other areas.

Yes I am aware that this is still an issue for specifically AMD. I'm working on a fix that will remove The dyn blend mode and replace the images with ones that won't slow down the game.

Full disclosure: I scanned the folders and files for threats and they came up clean. The fact that Norton popped on boot made me curious, but thanks for replying so quickly.

No problem!

You can tell so much love went toward this game. I believe you can go and make a game that's not related to Dragon Quest. Sort of like that guy that made Stardew Valley. Thank you so much for creating this game, and best of luck to you!

I really appreciate that! I tried to make the Dragon Quest 1 remake I wanted to play and I'm happy to see so many others liking this version.

My next project will not be on RPG Maker but it may be inspired by Dragon Quest.
Thanks for the good luck!

Norton Screenshot B...

Howdy,
My antivirus picked this up immediately upon boot. What's up with that?

This seems to be a common issue with Norton and being a little too overprotective. I have Malwarebytes and I assure you these files are clean and have integrity.
