Yo this is lowkey insane looking??? So much movement and life at display. And it would have looked great even if the battler was static, but the fact that you went the extra mile to animate it is really something to behold! Stunning work.

Haha, thanks man. Implementing this stuff in 2k3 just about killed me but I see it was well worth it. I thought about doing the attack animations too but we'd be waiting another 11 years, lol. Again, thanks for the feedback!

I'm beyond impressed! Just wow!
Thank you! This wouldn't be possible without Cherry/DYN RPG or Kazesui. Happy to hear you guys are liking it!

That is quite nice. This is in 2k3? How??
Thanks man. This is only possible because of DYN RPG plugins. And...the fact that I've never took the time to learn any other RPG Maker besides 2k3, lol.
This is why I love the RM community even still, after so many years. This is in 2k3. That's SO cool.

2K3 will never die! Seriously though the amount of interesting 2K3 projects that continue to pop up is a testament to how versatile the program can be despite its age.
Nice! This is the sprite from the DS version of DQ5, right?
Is it playing the animated gif (where did you find it?) or are you showing every frame one after the other?

One eye is looking at the Gigantes, and the other one is looking at the pretty snow! Awesome! But my eyeees!

That's it. I quit. Can't top this.
Haha, thanks! I'm pretty sure you work is highly revered here! But thanks for the high praise! :D

Thank you! And yes, most of the animated sprites will be from 4-6 DS. Some are custom made though.
The process of ripping the animation was a nightmare at first. But essentially I had to modify all 3 roms to remove the background from the bestiary since desmume doesn't remove the bg layer properly and then manually take a screenshot one by one of each monster, then crop all the frames, create an animated sprite sheet, make any modifications to transparencies, and do the same for the shadows.
Then I use Kazesui's DYNPEC plugin to essentially show each frame one after the other in the spritesheet and then loop back. It's time consuming but well worth it I think. Once the game is out I will definitely put them up for download so others can use it in future projects.

Yeah the new snow animation is pretty neat. Much better than the default 2k3 one I feel. Glad you like it! Do somn' bout those eyes though!

This looks amazing!
Man it's good to see a lot of folks I remember years ago! Thanks!

That must have taken a lot of time to do, but you've long proven your dedication to this project so I'm not surprised you went for it :)
Having the animated monsters really contributes to the feeling that this game is a love letter to and on par with the original releases. Well done!

This person on Tumblr has ripped a few gifs. Maybe this might be of use to you.

Oh wow, there's some neat rips in here. Thanks for sharing. If any are used of course they will be credited. I was originally going to use the idle and attack anims from 3 and 6 on SNES but I preferred the animated idle anims of the DS games.
And yeah this game is definitely a labor of love and love letter to Dragon Quest. I hope it lives up to fan expectation when it launches.
I love the details of the animated enemy. The snow in the background too, it keeps things in motion even in a window-based combat system. I am excited to play~
e: I just noticed the accuracy of the shadow on the ground based on the movement of the club. So nice !!

Yup. The static image for the combat worked fine as well but this definitely adds more life to it.
Thanks for your feedback!
