To be frank there was a reason I went for this kind of design rather than continuing with the one I previously drew. To summarise:

• The outfit is something I saw in a store and it didn't fit me, so I put it on her. AHA (the last one, I mean)

• The outfit doesn't fit my design goals for the game, which are to derive inspiration and sources from a)original outfit, b) 1940's fashion c) the SeeD/Cadet uniforms. This fits into the first two in some respects.

• I had forgotten about Lightning's bag! It was picked because of a practicality approach.

• Regarding the practicality approach, the last design doesn't fit Rinoa's character, in that Rinoa is a practical type of person despite being a dreamer. Notice that her arm warmers actually have a purpose (i.e to prevent her blaster edge straps from being directly on her skin) and she's wearing shorts. Her outfit is a blend of 'fashion' choices and practical application, which is the same route I went here.

• The outfit itself is actually quite different to her original get-up, it's just kind of hidden by her duster. She's wearing a vest, and the skirt's design is different. I'm considering having sequences where a long coat would get caught in fans or the like, and require her to take it off for the duration.

• In regards to that, we decided early on that certain garments would be kept by the cast. We all have our favourite clothing items and it's unlikely we're going to just give them up. So Rinoa is keeping her duster.

It's interesting to see the fifty-fifty split choice wise. Frankly I'm leaning towards the more practical approach. Rinoa is a smart girl, a reader, someone who led a resistance faction and took it upon herself to recruit SeeD to her cause. She's someone who gets up and does something, and with that I don't think she's going to be wearing a tiny skirt into the battlefield.

Selphie is insane, so her choices clothing-wise aren't even related to this.
