The storms and the pirates were one thing. But, when the vampire came upon the Isle of Ixis, the people were overwhelmed. The vampire gave them an ultimatum: she would use her powers to help protect the island from pirates and the storms. In return, the citizenry would provide her with a blood tribute.

There was little choice. They built for her a castle where she could reside. In time, with a bit of ingenuity, they managed to place a field around the castle that could withhold the vampire's need for blood. In time, the vampire was seen more like a patron saint than a monster. Eventually, the people of the island were able to fend off the pirates themselves. The so-called "patron saint" of Ixis slowly became a thing of legend.

Ben is man of curious nature. He questions everything, and frequently has bouts of wanderlust. During one such bout, he notices storm clouds. His senses tell him that it would be quite the storm, one he would not want to brave. He seeks shelter. What he finds is an old castle. His only thought is "Shelter is shelter" and enters.

Meanwhile, an ancient presence within the castle awakens. It senses the visitor; the first one in nearly five centuries. Curious about the visitor, it watches.

Personal background (Marrend):
This game was made for the All Hallows Eve event on RMN, which ran from October 2nd 2012 to October 31 2012. I had a few ideas, but none of them really stuck to me. Then, I got a message from BurningTyger, and we started to exchange ideas. At some point, I was reminded of an idea that I once had, and the conversation we about that, basically, barreled into this game.

We are the completeness!

After weeks of trials, tribulations, and other assorted toils, we have ourselves a download! Okay, well, it's not officially accepted yet. Or, wait, maybe it is? Whatever. In any event, we're both fairly proud of this accomplishment, and we hope you enjoy our humble offering. I'm not sure if we're going to win anything, but there is one thing I am certain of, if you allow the indulgence:

This game is

It seems we missed a face-set placement. I'm going to stave off replacing the download for a bit, but if that's the only thing we missed, I'd consider ourselves lucky!

*Edit: Re-uploaded the game. There should be no missing files now, but if there are, please leave a comment!
SO I beat this today. It did indeed set me in the mood for halloween. Also had a short, but nice story. I liked the ending of
keeping friends and family in our hearts.

BurningTyger found a missing music file. Evidently, it doesn't cause the game to crash, but we still want to fix this ASAP. As an additional aside, BurningTyger is giving the manual that nobody reads a once-over. Once we're clear on that, and squash any other missing files, we'll update the download again.

Sorry for the inconvenience, folks!

OK, the new version is up now; it wasn't that music was missing, just not cued right. My apologies, Marrend, for my perfectionism. It's go time, everyone!

Where's our download count? There's an "EDIT" button for a reason, friend.

*Edit: Then again, we only had, like, 20 downloads? I'm probably over-reacting, here.

Whoops... sorry. Does the count really even matter? I assume it's a general way to gage popularity and that's it.
I had to be a risk taker, and retry some options. I got eaten. :/.

I suppose it doesn't matter, but...

I submitted the old download to the event page. I replaced it with the new download, as I'm assuming that having a removed download wouldn't work very well!

Good. I'm pleasantly surprised at the response so far.
To be honest with you guys, I understand this was just for the halloween event, but the story had the making of a good start to a good game.

There was, at one point, talk about dropping this project out of the Halloween event, and taking on something simpler so that we could focus on developing this project at a later date. More importantly, without a time constraint. However, rather than getting overambitious with our plans, we decided to make some cuts from this project to make the deadline.

This is not to say that we will not come back to this after the Halloween event is over. That Door of Possibilities exists. I don't know if, or when, we'll open that Door, but it's there!

Yeah. Thanks for convincing me to stick wiht it; I think we make a good team. And yes, that door is open.
I'm looking forward to trying this one. I hope it's scary!

ACK! Bigtime, put that last bit in spoiler tags please! Figuring out the mystery is half the point of the game!
*Edit* Thanks. You didn't have to erase the "I liked it" bit! Just remember to tag the spoilers! But yeah, half the point is to solve the mystery, so it's got to remain mysterious!

Our hearts go out to those under the effect of Hurricane Sandy.

O howling wind, o merciless rain!
Hear me! From your wrath refrain!
Your uproar quiet, your raging cease!
Leave this isle! Depart in peace!

Sorry, but this seems oddly appropriate.

Indeed. . . especially in NYC. *Sigh* I hope my relatives in Tarrytown (Another part of New York State) are OK.
*Edit 11/22/12* Found a cut-off phrase while showing the game to my parents;it's now fixed.
