Grounded

Finally, I can make a review for this game!! It's my first time reviewing game, so bear with it :)

Background
I didn't know why but this game' cover picture was in my facebook' home. The summary was inviting, a survival horror type of game in a hospital!! I was eager to play it. not to mention there's a doctor too!!

Graphics & Artwork : 3.5/5
The map seems clear and nice. I love the artwork of the character too!(the one in the right of the map). The lighting' effect's good too, making me thinking twice to explore the dark room. But here's a suggestion : I'll give you 5/5 if there's any change of emotion on character's artwork based on dialogue and (I know I'm very oddly perfectionist here, sorry) if the avatar appearance match the artwork ( I see that Scarlet' hair was purple on the artwork, but it was black on the avatar). Oh, some CGs will be great too! (maybe in the ending)

Background Music & Effects (Audio) : 3/5
The sounds of our footsteps is one of my favorite things on this game. It gave a scary atmosphere on its way. The ticking clock, too, it was annoying and made me want Scarlet got out as soon as possible. As the other say, I just heard 2 BGM, on the cover and on the final chase. Here's suggestion : though it's a horror game, I thought it wouldn't be hurt to add some more BGM, especially on special scenes or when there's any cut-scene ( I hope there's any in the 2.0 version), and in the end of the game. But the music itself should be picked carefully, picking the wrong BGM may ruin the scary atmosphere ( if there isn't any good BGM, then don't use it).

Story & Plot : 3.5/5
As I have said before, the summary was inviting. When I played it, and finished it one thing I wanted to say is : this game has awesome plot and twisted ending. The ending is beyond my expectation (really!!) and the 0.5 point for this part is because the ending is really fanfic-able heheheh. Here's suggestion : it'll be great if there are more choices, more ending, and more chasing! also about the hide and seek part, it'll be great if there's a punishment when player choose the wrong place to hide. Also, it will be great too if the story is longer and more complicated.

Playthrough : 3/5
Hm... I must say that the avatar movement was slow (especially on Dormitory 1). Since it's horror game, I suggest to make the avatar move quicker, especially if there will be more chasing scenes. About the puzzle, I think is simply good cause I'm already stuck in the first puzzle, and if the plot/story will be longer of course there should be more puzzle too! I struggled in most every part of chasing, since the chaser was in same speed with the character (really, it's good decision!), and the puzzle sometimes made me stuck too (like the first hint to find the vault key). Here's another suggestion : make the important things glowing and make a limit of our items, so the player should decide which items should be discarded when the items box full and the player should get a new thing

Summary
This is really great game. Remembering that this is a survival horror-type game, the players should be curious of their surrounding--since we have to get out as soon as possible but didn't have anything at beginning, yet should be aware of the danger that lurk us quietly and attack us suddenly.

Over All Scores : 3.25
Remembering it's the first game that the creator have ever made, it was totally awesome! Hope after you finished the 2.0 version, there's still a lot of interesting game that you'll make. Arigatou gozaimashita, for making this game and Ganbatte kudasai to make the 2.0 version! :D

Thanks for the review, Fumaira!

I've read through it all and (open-heartedly) took all of your considerations for the next game! It's true, this game lacks BGM. But I can assure you that it's all fixed in the next version release (which I hope I can finish sometime soon if not for all the constant issues and obstacles preventing me from continuing)!

As for the story/plot, I really hope we could spice it up a bit more ;] Maybe I'll ask our team artist to make some character face sets (although I know that she is already busy working on a new project called "Brittle Faces" which is also a horror game for free)! We should have that game page up and running soon so you guys can get an Idea of what it looks like and how events may turn out. As always nothing is set in stone so suggestions are most definitely welcome! =D

I'm already adding in Punishments for hiding (in crazy or ridiculous places) and rewards for being clever with items that are discardable. We are also working on making more choices but the problem is we are kind of limited with what choices we can make for the main story. I guess we could make it something like "you see a towel thing here. your first and only choice would be to tear it apart if you don't have scissors and the result would be having to find a new towel" or something of the sort. I guess that would allow more "smart" decisions for the game. other punishments include wasting your time reading paper which has a random chance to make the stepfather appear.

Items of importance such as "problems that need to be solved" or "obtainable" things will sparkle =] I've been adding that nice little glow to everything important for the story progression but there will be secret hints and clues (or just call them rewards) that don't sparkle which will help give a better understanding main story puzzles and solutions (or maybe even lead to alternate endings, if possible!) =]

I'll also be sure to make the speed adjustments for the main character. Instead of having to press down "shift" while being chased... it will be automatic instead for the sake of convenience.

I'll admit. I was wrong about the 2 week estimation for V2. This may take a much longer time than I had hoped (rookie developer making bad time estimations), but I am hoping to see it all done soon. But I've got all the time I need to continue working on it with my spare time =D

Dou Itashimashite and you can bet I'll finish this version!

So there will be another game from you guys? heheh, hope I can play it on my first-term holiday!! Can't wait for the game page ;D, and if you need a game tester around the end of december until mid january, I'll be glad to help!! XD

for the main story, i think just add other scenes here and there that could fill some 'holes' of the version 1.0's plot, like telling us about Scarlet' past more! (adding a cut scenes on here will absolutely great!). and about the branching plot, just add one or more ending based on the player decision, like you'd thought (about the towel above ^ ^). In the version 1.0, the first chase, there's an option about wait longer or just get out from the hiding spot, right? too bad that either answer is correct. It'll be more great if there's more option like when we had to get the rope to go to the basement--options that risk Scarlet's life or the ending.

Oh and please tell the team artist that putting some CGs in the story and/or in the ending will be really really great!!
