It's been 11 years since Zack went on his life changing adventure. He saved the world, secured his love interest and become a man in the process. While the citizens of the world may have forgotten his efforts; in favour of the newer younger heroes, inside Zack's chest still beats the heart of his teenage adventurous self, longing for the past. An encounter with another hero forgotten by time; Alex, may ignite sparks of heroism in both of them again. Or it might not, I guess you'll have to play it to find out.

A short and light-hearted RPG game created for the event "RPG Maker Venture" in which we had a single week to create a project, no longer than one hour; focused on the default RTP characters. Including features not limited to:

- A soundtrack ripped shamelessly from Lost Odyssey.
- First Seed Material graphics, mapped to an acceptable level.
- Humour that you might chuckle at occasionally.
- No random encounters.
- A barely modified default battle system.
- A final dungeon so rushed, it will make you wonder what I was even trying to do in the first place.
- It went on to win the contest, so surely that counts for something?

Was recommended this one by UPRC. Loved this game!
I just played through this, and I have to say that I absolutely adored it. I LOVED the dialogue. Alex is just a chump.
Here I was thinking this was a recently made game, and the title was doubling as an official send-off as you leave the RM community and move on to bigger things in life. I'm glad to see it's all a misunderstanding.

I hope.... =O

Congrats on the Feature too.
Ah-ha finally featured! This is a little cute game (and complete!) that has everything: humor, combat, likeable characters and a quest!
< 3 okay thanks @_@ I didn't notice it there before. Okay! Lets get this let's play rolling!.
I'm 99% certain I included the font inside the folder. It's called MS Echoes, so all you have to do is click on it to install it and it will work automatically. If it's not there, let me know and I'll send you the correct font.
I noticed that there is a slight problem with the font. It IS showing up so that's good but its all squished and not very clear so its hard to read.
I like doing the lets plays videos even just for games that i can finish in under 2 hours. It's always well worth the time for me and some times it's just damn hard to find a good walkthrough for games. I use to be one of the people who would play a game that wasn't hugely popular or not a lot of people played it or knew about it so when I'd get stuck on a part or couldnt figure out how to get different endings I would end up just having to run everywhere on the game until i figured it out. which does take a looot of precious gaming time haha but sometimes its worth it in the end when you figure things out but if you are stuck on a part for more then a day then it just gets annoyingly frustrating. So yess i would love to make the let's play, I'll link you to it when it's done and you can watch it, share it, whatever you please to do with it and I'll make sure to let people know that the link for the download is there so they can give it a spin if they want to.

So I'm going to give this a run-through first but it seems like everyone was pretty satisfied with it. So once I play through it maybe I don't know probably half way through, I'm going to slap it into my Let's Play Lineup 2014 on my youtube channel. I'll link you to it if you like, you can share it or watch it or whatever you wanna do lol. There will be links to this page so people can download and play it if they so desire, I look forward to seeing more people playing it.

Oh wow thank you, that would be amazing. I don't know if you saw but this game was made in one week, so it has under an hour of gameplay. It's up to you whether you think it would be worth making a video.

I get stupidly grateful whenever someone leaves a comment just saying "this game was ok" so whatever you do would be awesome to me.

Well... it was pointless adventure )
Why I'm always trying to lvl up my chars as hard as I can >.<
Reminds me a lot White Magic... still I was hoped for less anti-climatic ending )
I just meant that it's not as a good of a feature as I had hoped, but I'm glad somebody decided to try this out on a short project. I think I would have lost my mind if this has been a long project and only certain people can attack at certain times.

It does emphasize the need to make people more prominent in certain areas, in spite of people griping about such cliches, but removing their ability to attack (or even attack certain enemies) would probably not be a good idea, at least not in something longer than 1 hour.

Now that I've seen it, I'm glad I never went with it.

Thanks?

But seriously, thanks for playing it and leaving a nice comment, that goes to all of you. Makes me feel great and like I'm on the right track with my main projects. You're the best.
That was actually pretty funny. I also wondered what it would be like for a party where each character had defined functions (not all of them able to damage). Now that I've seen it, I'm glad I never went with it.

Best part in the whole game was when you first enter the tower! That scream was freaking hilarious!

I don't feel the ending was at all rushed. It was the perfect balance for what the game already proved to be.

You're magical to me.

This game was a lot of fun! Very well made, especially given the time constraints, and I liked the sense of humor :D
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Reading any kind of feedback makes my day. Serious thanks for playing it <3

Another thing that did upset me (more for realz this time =P) was that Alex was almost useless. Not because I like him and wanted him to be the hero of the game, but because he was dead weight most of the time; As was Zack when only Falron could dispose of ghost enemies: Their turns go to waste when they don't have to support. There should be alternatives to deal at least minimum damage.
I always wanted to toy with the idea of a party member being unable to do damage, and thought this small game was the perfect chance. Instead of Alex's sword just being a joke, I extended into the game play as well. Even if I do go back to the game sometime, I will still keep Alex unable to deal damage, but enchance his support abilites. I can't and won't blame everything on being rushed, but it did affect my decision making. I agree with you 100% on everything you said though. I really enjoyed making the game, but if another contest comes along, I would have to have to be in a team of some sort just for my stress levels haha.

A swan song is a term for "a final act/action"
Yeah, thanks NewBlack. I chose it because Alex and Zack want to end their hero career with a bang, but as you complete the game, that doesn't exactly happen. Swan Song is kind of a play on words.

Thanks again.
A swan song is a term for "a final act/action"

It comes from the folkloric belief that swans (I guess Mute Swans specifically?) only sing right before they die.

Oh and yeah, this does look kinda neat, a classic style 2k3 game in 2014, whee.

Edit: sorry I can't resist answering random trivia questions >_>
Nice, little game! I liked the mapping, specially in the tower (vines everywhere = <3). And your choice of music was very "atmospheric".

The writing was good too, but one thing that did upset me about its presentation (Well, not "upset-upset", I just thought it was weird) was that you used the same message box to fit as much of a character's dialogue as possible. I guess that can work sometimes, but others, I feel it lessens the "impact" of some of the dialogue... Anyway, I loved the ending as well. You should expand on it as you intended.

All in all, a pretty enjoyable experience. Once again, you should fulfill your vision of the game and make it longer... harder, stronger. xD

Edit: Also, why is the game called "Swan song"? I probably missed that...
Edit:Edit: Oooh~ Interesting factoid... Thanks, NewBlack! =)
FSM.... it's so good to see you again, FSM!
What a pleasant surprise.

Okay, just finished it and honestly, I couldn't find much wrong with this game, really (maybe because it's similiar to mine in so many ways)!

I liked the direction you took the DBS and your REFMAP mapping certainly put mine to shame, not to mention the writing (especially the ending) was spectacular. The line about Zack and the ether's probably one of the few to have ever made me laugh out loud in an RM game.

I guess if I were to NITPICK like some kinda Devil's Advocate, I'd say there were a few too many typos and run-on sentences, and I would have liked to have been able to do a bit more with Zack when facing off against the ghosts, but yeah, nothing major at all.

May the best man win! (P.S. thanks for playing my game, but please don't go easy on it just because I thought positively of Swan Song!)
